Chapter 82
My heart sank.
I almost didnât dare to meet his gaze, afraid that the doctor might blurt out something.
That would be disastrous,
I spoke first. âDoctor, he didnât come with me today. He came for a prenatal checkâup with another
woman.â
Ryanâs voice was warm and deep. âI didnât specifically come with her.â
âBut you did come, didnât you?â
I didnât want the doctor to go into the details.
It was like catching a cheater. Nobody would care why your husband would be with another woman. All people cared about was that he betrayed you.
Whether it was a drunken mistake or premeditated, did it really make a difference?
What happened couldnât be changed. No matter how noble the excuse, a mistake was already made.
Ryan had nothing to say, his gaze was firm. âYou still havenât told me, why did you come to the hospital today?â
âHavenât I told youâ¦â
âDonât stall.â He interrupted coldly, seeming determined to get to the bottom of this.
The ultrasound doctor hadnât left yet. âMrs. Frost, are you feeling unwell?â
Unable to extract anything from me, Ryan turned to the doctor. âDoctor, was there any issue with my wifeâs checkâup the other day?â
âDoctorâ¦â
I nervously dug my nails into my palms, feeling chills down my spine. But under Ryanâs penetrating gaze, I dared not say more.
My heart was pounding incessantly.
I could only look at the doctor almost imploringly, pleading silently not to tell him.
After the divorce, I just wanted to keep my distance from him, raise the child alone, and become a good mother.
I didnât want any chaos.
And I definitely didnât want to lose my child.
Even if I managed to give birth, how could the Frost family allow their flesh and blood to be in someone elseâs hands?
Despite Grandpa treating me well, there were conditions; he would certainly want his greatâgrandchild recognized and embraced by the family.

Never did I expect that the doctor who had been urging me to endure for the sake of the child that day would say, âWell, thereâs a bit of an issue, potentially significant. Mrs. Frost has multiple uterine polyps, and if they persist at the next checkâup, surgery will be needed.â
I widened my eyes in shock but silently heaved a long sigh of relief, looking gratefully at the doctor.
âMrs. Frost, please take care of yourself. I have to go now.â
After the doctor left with the assistant, Ryan frowned. You have a health issue, and you didnât mention it after the checkâup?â
âRyan, during the past couple of days, how many times have I seen you? When did you give me the chance to tell you about this?â
I felt it was ironic.
What right did he have to ask me that question?
We had only met twice. Once I was chased off by Jessicaâs phone call, and the other time I ended up being a mistress in other peopleâs eyes.
He sighed helplessly. âI sent you messages on WhatsApp, and you didnât reply.â
âYes, while you were with Jessica 24/7, you managed to squeeze in a message to me whenever you found the chance, and I should be grateful enough to respond?â
I couldnât remember which day it was when he asked me about the checkâup results.
Why did it feel like he was doling out charity every time he sent a message, and I had to be thankful and accept it?
Ryan rubbed his temples. âWho told you I was with her 24/7?â
âThen how should I put it? Youâre on standby 24/7, isnât that the same?â
âCharlotteâ¦â
âAlright, Ryan, thereâs really no need for us to make things so awkward.â
I sighed. âCanât we just separate peacefully? Wouldnât that be better?â
At my words, Ryan fell unusually silent, his face darkened. âAre you determined to get a divorce?â
I looked at him and smiled. âWe donât have to get a divorce. Iâll just post our marriage certificate on the company forum when I get back, and your sweetheart will once again become the target of gossip between people.â
