Chapter 92
Grandpa saw through me, and I nodded without hesitation. âYes.â
He raised his hand, gesturing for Albert to bring something overâa yellowed medical record.
As I took it and glanced at it, my heart felt like it was gripped tightly by an invisible hand.
Ryanâs childhood.
Years spent with a psychologistâ¦
I looked up awkwardly, completely unable to believe this.
That such a prodigy would be a regular visitor to the psychiatrist.
It made sense, though.
Born motherless, a father consumed by another woman, turning the household upside down, only doting on his stepdaughter.
Psychological issues.
It was all too normal.
âOver these years, Iâve wondered whether to tell him or not.â
Grandpa sighed, his eyes full of experience, âBut someday, he will find out regardless. You canât hide it from him forever.â
Leaving the Frost familyâs old mansion with mixed emotions, on the way back, my right eyelid kept
twitching
Normally, I didnât believe in these things, but today my chest felt tight and anxious.
Just as the car was about to enter the parking lot of the residential area, Ryanâs call came in!
My heart skipped a beat, âHelloâ¦â
âGrandpa collapsed! The ambulance is on its way.â
âIâll come back right awayâ¦â
I was struck dumb, my words stuttering. On the other end, Ryan steadied my nerves with his calm, strong voice, âCharlotte, donât panic. Donât come back. Go directly to St. Heart Hospital.â
âOkay, okayâ¦â
My head was buzzing.
After hanging up, I left the car with the security guard, asked him to park it, and hailed a taxi on the roadside.
Learning from the last time, I dared not drive in such a state.
When I arrived at the hospital, just as I got out of the car, the ambulance whizzed past me.
âGrandpa.â

But considering the child, I dared not run and could only hurry after the ambulance.
The ambulance stopped at the emergency room entrance, where doctors and nurses who had been waiting rushed forward. The person they brought out from the ambulance was indeed Grandpa.
Watching the eightyâyearâold man being moved to the bed without moving a muscle, my vision blurred instantly.
Ryan followed closely behind. Seeing me, his grave expression softened slightly. âDonât be afraid. Grandpa has been in good health recently.
Grandpa was quickly taken into the resuscitation room, with medical staff coming in and out.
Finally, the resuscitation room door closed completely
Every passing second became excruciating.
I leaned against the wall to keep from slipping to the ground, looking at Ryan, feeling somewhat powerless as I asked, âWhen I left, wasnât Grandpa fine? Why did he suddenly collapse?â
Ryanâs face was as calm as water. âAfter you left, Grandpa called her in.â
âWho?â
Perhaps too flustered, my mind didnât react immediately, so I asked subconsciously.
Albert kept his composure. âIt was Jessica.â
âJessica?â
I frowned. âDid she argue with Grandpa, or what happened?â
âNo argument.â
Albert shook his head. âI was guarding outside. I didnât hear any commotion. The last thing I heard was when the old master collapsed.â
âHow could this happenâ¦â
I stared at the red light above the resuscitation room, feeling panicked and helpless, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably.
Grandpa was the only person in this world who made me feel the warmth of family.
on room safely.
I just hoped that Grandpa would come out of the resuscitation
Ryan reached out to wipe my tears. âDonât cry. I promise you, Grandpa will be fine.â
