âMrs. Beckham, be careful. Watch your step.â
Hayden heard the maidâs voice as she held the door. âBy the way, where are the two children? There are too many people here, keep a close eye on them.â She felt worried about the children and admonished again.
âLittle Noah and Stella were taken back to their room and there is a nanny watching them closely. Mrs. Beckham, donât worry. Itâs very windy out here, come inside before you get sick.â
âIâm fine. Donât worry about me, Iâm just feeling the breeze to clear my head.â
Hayden removed the maidâs hand and waved her off, letting the maid go.
The evening breeze was soft and fragrant.
Your escape begins with ga ln ov els . com Hayden had cleared a little in the wind. He walked into the courtyard and sat down at the stone table.
âMrs. Beckham, are you all right?â
A male voice sounded and Hayden was startled. He squinted to look and saw a gray figure under the porch. The man was wearing a silver-gray suit and was the same age as Joseph.
She vaguely remembered that this guy was the first to congratulate her after Harrison had just introduced her.
This man appeared to be Josephâs cousin.
âIâm fine.â She said weakly, trying to stay awake.
She could never embarrass herself.
The man was handsome, and walked over to Hayden after she responded. He placed a bottle of pills on the stone table and said with concern, âThis is to sober you up, take one and tomorrow you wonât have a headache. I noticed that you have been drinking a lot and I was very worried about you, so I came to check if you were all right. I hope you wonât be offended.â
Hayden was puzzled.
Why did he follow her into the backyard, even though he knew it was somewhat abrupt? Didnât he know that doing this was inappropriate?
Hayden suddenly felt this guy was greasy and irritating.
âThank you.â She nodded politely but didnât grab the bottle.
âHow long have you known Joseph? I didnât hear Joseph mention you before.â The man asked nonchalantly.
Hayden was drunk and bleary-eyed, looking at him. A little dizzy, she replied, âI havenât known him long. Itâs only natural that you havenât heard him talk about me.â
âI see. Joseph seems to like you very much. Otherwise, it would be too rash to decide to get married soon after meeting you.â
The man nodded as he seemed to understand.
âHe wants to marry me?â Hayden listened to his words stunned and felt amused, âHow can that be? His first love is back and heâs willing to break up with me.â
âHis first love?â This had caught the attention of the man who approached Hayden and said carefully, âYou seem to have a lot of complaints about Joseph. How about you tell me and Iâll tell him sometime.â
âTell him what?â
The man startled and nearly fell over as Hayden nudged him impatiently. He frowned immediately and gave him a look of disgust.
âI wonât go along with him, whether he wanted to marry me or not. There are plenty of other men flirting with me-who does he think he is?â
The man froze for a second and snorted, âVery nice. Who does he think he is, being so arrogant all the time? Youâre lucky you were born here. How about we talk about how you met themâ¦?â.
âUs?â Hayden lifted her head and looked at the man in front of her, blinking. Suddenly, she grabbed him by the collar and shouted in a harsh voice, âJoseph Beckham, you son of a bitchâ¦â.
The man was stunned by the smell of alcohol as she came barreling toward him. No wonder Joseph decided to get married all of a sudden. This woman was quite interesting.
âMrs. Beckham, youâre drunk. Iâll take you back to get some rest.â
The man picked her up and prepared to leave. They took a few steps and saw someone in the hallway. She looked up and her heart skipped a beat at the sight of him.
âJosephâ¦â
Joseph gave him a cold look and reached over to pull Hayden out of the manâs arms without a word. After confirming that she was intact, Joseph said in a cold voice, âFranklin Hawkins, I wonât hit you for Harrisonâs sake. But if you have designs on my things and my wife, youâre a dead man. Believe it or not.â After saying this, Joseph carried Hayden and went into the house.
Franklin stood in the hallway, feeling the cold air. He was filled with jealousy and hatred for them.
They were so arrogant. But one day, your things would be mine. The man was calculating as he growled.
Joseph kicked open the door, carried Hayden into the bathroom and threw her into the tub.
He turned on the shower and let the water fall on Hayden. She looked grim.
Hayden shuddered and screamed as the cold water poured down on her. She opened her eyes, seeing the man, and her drunkenness passed.
âJoseph?â
âAre you awake?â Joseph looked at her with cold eyes, âDo you want me to tell you what happened?â.
Hayden still felt a nagging fear at the thought of what had just happened in the yard. He clenched his fist and said stiffly, âIsnât he your cousin? What could possibly go wrong in the yard?â
âAre you still being aggressive?â. Joseph was furious, âWhat did you say to Franklin just now? Saying you donât want to marry me, did you? There are a lot of people chasing you, arenât there? Who are they?â.
âItâs none of your business.â
Hayden was furious after having cold water poured on her. She was a mess and felt embarrassed. But Joseph kept pushing her aggressively.
She leaned out of the tub to get out and said righteously, âWeâre done. I didnât refute in public for Harrisonâs sake, but now Iâll make it clear to Harrison. Then weâll go our separate ways.â
âHow dare you!â His words froze Hayden.
She gritted her teeth, faced him, and said stubbornly, âWhy not?â
No sooner had she said it than Joseph pushed her back, looking down at her from above, âWhat kind of place do you think the Beckham Family is? You come and go as you please?â
Joseph had become furious. The way Franklin was holding Hayden, but she wasnât resisting, flashed in Josephâs mind. Her words of not wanting to marry him were inside him. And the person in front of him was etched in his heart.
But she still wanted him to let go and leave her.
