âYou found them both?â.
Benjamin nodded for a moment, âTheyâre in Guangzhou. They opened a restaurant called Sabresa Fast Food Restaurant, and theyâve been doing very well.â
Teresa and Sabrina came from remote mountain areas. They were cousins and had no intention of returning since they left that remote mountain village.
According to information provided by Benjamin, they had only worked for the Beckham Family for two years and received Beckham Family training for one of those two years, not to mention the evaluation period before they were hired.
Nannies who had gone through several tests before being hired would naturally have a high salary. By rights, they should not do anything that would harm their masterâs family for petty benefits.
âI have also checked their bank accounts, there is nothing unusual. Besides the nanny salary during those years, the highest amount was the severance pay given to them by the Beckham Family three years ago.â
âSo, they werenât bribed?â.
âNo.â
Benjamin shook his head and handed her a page from the file. It was a street photo of a bone-thin man in focus for the camera.
âThis is Sabrinaâs ex-husband, they were married in her hometown. He chased Sabrina to N City in the early years and asked her for a lot of money. After that, he became addicted to drugs and had debts with some criminals. But three years ago, all of a sudden, all the debt collectors quit and this guy went into rehab.â
Hayden frowned and looked puzzled at the man in the photo.
He could vaguely guess what kind of relationship there was between the man and Sabrina in terms of money.
âI met this man in Shaoyang County. He had just gotten out of rehab six months ago, had overcome his drug addiction, and admitted that the person who was trying to harm Noah found him and promised to help him pay off his debts. The person also promised him that he would give him a huge amount of money if he asked Sabrina to put some drugs inside the powdered milk of his masterâs son.â
Benjamin said everything bluntly. His words were not spoken as mere conjecture, but were all well-grounded facts.
âSo, did Sabrina do it?â.
âIâm not too sure either.â Benjamin shook his head again, âThatâs why I think this person is smart. Sabrinaâs ex-husband told me that at first Sabrina didnât agree to his request and she said she wanted to divorce him. The two of them got into a fight and went to the police station in the district of N City. This was recorded and I have verified it, it is true.â
Hayden vaguely realized something: âYou just mentioned that the two women who opened the store in Guangzhou are cousins. Thereâs another woman named Teresa, is this incident related to her?â
Benjamin nodded, âYes, it is related to her.â
The matter was very simple. After Sabrina argued with her ex-husband, he harassed her and refused to divorce her. The debt collector who failed to collect her ex-husbandâs debts naturally found her, and Teresa, as a cousin, couldnât take it anymore. She put the drug inside Noahâs powdered milk powder on the sly, without telling Sabrina or her ex-husband.
âAt first, Sabrina didnât know. Only later, when something happened to Noah, did she learn the truth after asking Teresa several times. But things had already happened and there was someone there to cover it up, so they were fired directly by the Beckham Family. They left N-Town and went to Guangzhou.â
Since there was no money involved in this matter, even the Beckham Family couldnât find out anything at the time. Who would believe that they would do something like this without asking for money when it could hurt them to be caught doing it?
âSo, how did you find out the truth?â. Hayden was baffled.
There was no evidence to prove that Teresa was the one who had done that. Even if Benjamin had found them both, they would have had to keep denying that they did it.
Benjamin seemed to be in a complicated mood: âTeresa has cancer and doesnât have long to live. She confessed everything to me.â
No one knew if there really was such a thing as karma. After Teresa drugged in Noahâs powdered milk, she was always tense and always worried that the Beckham Family would find them. So, over the years, she became sick with worry and half a year ago she was found to have stomach cancer that was already in the terminal stage.
Hayden also seemed to have mixed feelings. From Noahâs motherâs perspective, she should have said that Teresa got what she deserved. But this woman didnât do it for money, she just did it to get her cousin out of some trouble, so she was considered a righteous person.
âSo who was the person who asked her to do that? You should have found that out too, right?â.
Speaking of this, Benjamin slowly exhaled a foul breath.
âTeresa said that the one who asked her to do such a thing was the Beckham Familyâs Young Master.â
Haydenâs heart stopped beating for a moment and he clenched his fingers.
âThere are several young masters in the Beckham Family.â
âShe was sure it was Noahâs father. Although she never saw much of him, he went to the Beckham Mansion every New Yearâs and she always saw him on the news, so she wouldnât mistake him for anyone else.â
Haydenâs clenched fingers turned cold. He could feel the cold spreading through his body. He felt like he couldnât even think straight at that moment.
It really was Joseph who had done that.
How could he take advantage of a two-year-old?
Looking at Haydenâs pale face, Benjamin became a little upset.
âHayden, I think you donât have to think badly of him, maybe Joseph didnât expect this incident to make such an impact on Noah. I asked Teresa what kind of substance she put inside the powdered milk and she said it was a medicine to improve Noahâs health, but she was afraid that the boy couldnât take the tonic, so the dosage was very small. Later, Noah only had a fever. As for the damage to the vocal cords, it is very strange, since the doctor had said that Noah had intact vocal cords. He just didnât want to talk to others, maybe someone was afraid of him.â
Benjaminâs words did little to comfort Hayden. She still felt upset.
How cold Joseph had to be to take advantage of a two-year-old who couldnât even speak properly, all to achieve his goals. This was just too horrible.
âNo need to comfort me, I know whatâs going on.â
She had been prepared for this when Benjamin warned her last time.
It was late at night and the lights in the guest room had long since been turned off. While Benjamin, who had been in a hurry all day, went straight to sleep in the guest room after taking a shower. Meanwhile, Hayden was in Stellaâs room. He was unable to fall asleep after a long time.
Looking at his daughterâs cute face when she slept, he felt guilty.
If he had been stronger then, would he have let Noah be born into such a treacherous and wealthy family as the Beckhams and get into such trouble?
In the darkness, a text message alert popped up on Haydenâs phone. It was from Edison.
[Alaynaâs recovery is going well. Weâre all good here. Are you?]
Looking at the text message, Hayden took a deep breath. Sitting cross-legged on the carpet, she tapped the phone screen and typed back, [Iâm fine here. Iâve been thinking about the Noah thing. Can you get in touch with the lawyer you told me about earlier? I need to consult with him about Noahâs custody].
At first, she didnât think about fighting for custody of Noah with Joseph, thinking that, after all, Joseph had raised him. She had no right to take custody away from Joseph.
But now, it seemed that, if Joseph could do those things in the past, then he could do it a second time. Not to mention that it was really dangerous for Noah to stay with him.
Edison quickly got back to him. He sent him the lawyerâs contact information.
[Ask him first if you have anything to consult with him. Iâm going to N City next month, make sure youâre in a good mood to meet me and talk. I will support you when you need me].
