After leaving the Design Department, her assistant Anna caught up with her and reminded her of AWâs business party the next night.
âPresident Downey, will you be going alone, orâ¦â.
âDo you think I wonât find any men to accompany me?â Hayden glanced at Anna.
Anna hesitated for a moment and said carefully, âPresident Downey, will you be attending the party with Mr. Beckham?â
âYes.â
âI donât think Mr. Beckham is an appropriate choice. Please donât be angry about what I said.â
At her words, Hayden paused, and shot a surprised look at Anna.
Anna hastened to explain, âDonât be angry. I just think there are more people who would like to sabotage her when they can, but few to do a favor when their friends are in trouble; especially in the business community. Based on the media and Mr. Beckhamâs track record, I think heâs pissed off a lot of people.â
âHe continues.â Hayden wanted to know Annaâs thoughts.
After a pause, Anna said.
âMr. Beckham is now not the executive chairman of the ST Group, but the treasurer of the Downey Group. Right now, he is going to a high class party and will no doubt meet those he knew before. For example, Señor Sanchez and his brother used to be rivals of Señor Beckham. If you meet Mr. Beckham at the party, I am afraid he will be taken advantage of, plus, others might peddle gossip about you and Mr. Beckham. As a result, you two would be embarrassed.
She knew Anna had tried to advise her logically.
Itâs easy to imagine how those people would make fun of Joseph. Mr. Beckham was very proud and never fell from grace, she feared he would not be able to handle the situation.
âIâll think about it.â He looked at Anna, with clear appreciation in his eyes.
Anna was a little relieved. âSheâs not angry.â
As he walked toward the office, Hayden asked Anna, âHow long have you been with the Downey Group?â
âFive years.â
âThat long?â Hayden was a little surprised, âBut whyâ¦â.
She suddenly felt it was inappropriate to ask the question, but she couldnât find words to change her question. So she just stood stiffly.
Anna didnât care, but she smiled, âWhy am I still a little secretary who hasnât been given any importance for so long?â
Hayden nodded.
âThatâs because I donât have a title.â Anna got a little embarrassed.
âI only have my high school diploma. Five years ago, my uncle got in touch with old Mr. Downey, so they got me into the company. Although my grandmotherâs last name was Downey, she was only a distant relative of old Mr. Downey. It was a good opportunity for me to be a secretary.â
Hearing this, Hayden came to her senses and comforted her, âThose who work hard will be rewarded.â
A few days ago, when she became President Downey, she chose her assistant in the company secretaryâs office. Assistants were often overworked, but not well paid. A good assistant must be tactful, loyal and caring; it is not easy to find such an assistant. Thatâs why itâs important to know how to value them.
âThank you, President Downey.â Anna lowered her head.
Hayden was left with the impression that Anna had an old head on young shoulders, because whatever he told her, she was always calm. Thatâs why he chose Anna as his assistant.
In the afternoon, Hayden went to the factory with Dante. As he expected, the assembly line workers temporarily working for the factory were not very meticulous. The first batch of clothes had to be touched up.
Therefore, Dante yelled at them and the factory owner was called to the scene immediately.
âWhatâs going on?â
âWhatâs going on?â Dante looked coldly at the owner, and dropped all the scattered fabric at his feet, âLook, is this the quality you promised us?â.
