Chapter 23 of 79

Chapter Twenty

The Ugliest Of Them All308 words~2 min read

Come the next dawn. Lukas Scottville wants to wake up. In fact so early.

To go and get what he lost.

And when he reaches school. He finds her. By the lockers. Where they first had their kiss. One which none knew was coming. And there is something different. Even about today.

The perfect of them all. Does not see. That the world does not see. As he walks amidst. Like he is used to it. No! Just because of her. The ugliest of them all.

She makes him happy in unsaid ways. And his heart has taken her in. With all her flaws and faults.

When she sees him. She wants to walk away. For deep in person. She does not like. A person with a stained heart. But he calls her. And cries. "Please don't walk away."

When she turns to him. He gives it to her. The lost diary. "You dropped this." He says. "I figured that out." She says. No thank you. As she grabs it from him.

And turns to walk.

But he holds her hand. And she stares back. Back into his eyes.

"You can't just go." He says. "Why?" She asks. "I have to tell you. You are not as ugly as I said." He says.

"But I am." She says. And it's what she believes.

"Your handwriting is the most beautiful. Your poetry is the most beautiful. Your hope is the most beautiful. Isn't that enough beauty? Even when the face defies?" He asks.

And it is the most beautiful thing she has been told. Since she first saw the yellow light of the sun. Or white. But she is used. Used to running away from her heart.

And emotion.

So she goes. Away from him. For she does not want him to see. To see her shed a tear.
