a mundane thursday noon thirteen years back. 2 pm. mom was watching television in the living room. i was lying on the couch by the window. the sun was shining in my face. literally. the window could not interfere with our connection. the sun kept burning right over my head until i couldn't see anything. it didn't scare me anymore. i had been experiencing it for a year then. i kept lying there under the sun until one day when it got weird.
i asked mom to shut the sun out. âthere's no sun over you, sweetie.â
âthere is a sun, mummy, just above my head. can't you see it, mummy? please, shut it out.â
âno baby, i can't shut the sun out. because there is no sun over you.â
âit's blinding me, mummy. what do i do?â
âi guess, you are tired, sweetie. you should sleep.â
and so, sleep became my escape from the sun shining too bright in my eyes.
