Chapter 289 She had liked Johnâs voice before. It was deep and magnetic, but now she was frightened.
âJohn, what are you doing? Get up.â
However, John did not get up but hugged her. âOlivia, let me hold you for a minute.â
The sudden gentleness made Olivia uncomfortable. Smelling faint alcohol, she hurriedly pushed him away. âAre you drunk?â
âHsss.â John frowned as he covered his chest.
Olivia immediately remembered Johnâs injury and reached over to check it out. âDid I touch your wound? Itâs not bleeding, is it?â
John suddenly held her hand. âLetâs talk, okay?â
There was a touch of pleading in his voice, which made Olivia even more uncomfortable as she scrambled to withdraw her hand.
âWhat do you want to talk about? We have nothing to talk about.â
His indifference, how he hurt her, and bits and pieces of the past were on her mind.
She could not forget them.
âI didnât mean for you to die.â
Olivia shuddered, took a step back, and shook her head as she said, âWhatâs the difference between wanting me to give my life to Dorothy and wanting me to die?â
âDorothy canât die.â
A chill came over her as she could not help sneering when she heard that.
âHow cheap am I?â
John spoke gently to her, and she was moved, thinking he would repent. However, his original intention was only to plead for Dorothy.
No wonder he was so gentle today.
âJohn.â She looked up at him, her eyes full of disappointment. âDorothy killed my parents and hid their remains. Do you think I can let her live?â
Their eyes met, and John was startled. His eyes were dim.
When he was silent, Olivia laughed mockingly and said, âSee, John, you are always on Dorothyâs side. Whatever she did, you believe and forgive her.â
âItâs been two years. You never let me explain. But you believe everything Dorothy says, including her slander against me.â
John frowned. âIâll look into it. Wait for me...
âLook into it? Are you really going to look into it?â
Olivia interrupted. âIf youâll look into it, youâll know Iâve had an affair.â
With that said, she looked up, trying not to let the tears flow.
Because it meant she cared once she cried. She did not want John to think she cared.
âForget it. These things donât matter anymore. Leave.â
John did not move. His deep eyes were indiscernible.
âOlivia, Iâll look into it.â
Olivia let out a shaky breath and snuffled. âJohn, how unsure are you of yourself to think Iâm going to cheat on you?â
Johnâs body shook as panic flickered in his eyes.
The question had never crossed his mind.
He just hated why Olivia would betray their relationship for Cole.
He had asked himself what was not good enough about him to make her want to have an affair, but he had no answer.
âLeave.â
âIâll look into it. Iâll look into everything. Give me a chance.â
Olivia froze.
âA chance?
âHad he ever given her a chance?â
She grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, yelling, âItâs too late! Itâs too late for you to say anything now. Itâs unnecessary!â
She then pushed John out and locked the door.
It was too late for Johnny to say anything.
Maybe she was dying when he found out the truth. It would be pointless.
Rather than the truth, she wanted him to feel guilty for the rest of his life and make him feel like h*ll.
