~Dedicated to first dates~
Chapter Seven
Best friends are always there for you when you need them. Theyâre there to help you through heartbreaks and when you need them to get out of trouble and letâs not forget about when you want to have a good laugh. My best friend, well she was a little different from most, for starters she was hiding behind a potted plant while I sat opposite to Dave Peterson, my date for the night who hadnât noticed a thing. Whether or not that was a good thing or not, was still puzzling me.
âYou look great tonight,â Dave spoke, bringing me out of my thoughts.
I couldnât help but smile in return. Dave Peterson was gorgeous, not in a Sean Gregory bad boy sort of way, but in a good guy next door type. Silky blonde hair and sapphire blue eyes that could penetrate into your soul. He looked more than gorgeous; he looked like a supermodel in his plain blue t-shirt and jeans that fit his well-muscled legs perfectly. Broad shoulders and an amazing smile that instantly made you feel a whole lot better; Dave was the reason why most girls didnât give up on true love.
âThanks,â I replied, a slow blush rising to my cheeks.
Juliet had advised me to dress casual yet sexy tonight. Simple skinny jeans, a white tank top and a black cropped jacket which in Julietâs opinion made me look like I was ready to break hearts. I was going to the movies; a definite sign that Dave was going to kiss me, which to be honest was making me more nervous as each second ticked by. I couldnât help it. I was Vivienne Lanter, the eighteen year old virgin lips who still couldnât watch sex scenes in movies without blushing.
âMy pleasure,â Dave answered with his killer smile, âitâs the truth after all.â
My face was on fire as I squeaked out, âR-Really?â
Dave laughed slightly, causing my skin to erupt in goose pimples, âYeah really Viv,â he leaned forward slightly, âyou look really cute when you blush.â
âI do?â I asked, my eyes widening slightly.
God Viv! He just said so, why do you have to ask him? Stop acting like a complete idiot and play it cool. Deep breaths Viv, calming breaths and for the love of all things good and honest in the world, please stop blushing! You canât walk around looking like a bright red tomato or Dave is never going to kiss you and youâll remain a VL forever and have to live in a nunnery with your cat Smokey, and letâs not forget youâll have to leave Mr Wiggles at home. Wait, do nunneries even allow you to own a teddy?
âYeah, you do,â Dave said, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I licked my lips, taking a deep breath, âThanks, really Dave.â
Finally! You go Viv, saying something smart for once.
âAnytime, now what will you order?â Dave asked, turning to the menu.
I glanced down at the red laminated menu that was filled with Italian themed food, happy to have a distraction from Daveâs penetrating gaze on me. I bit my bottom lip in thought as I scanned the different meals, finally deciding to settle on pasta. Pasta was good right? I couldnât make a mess or a complete fool out of myself with it, and there was no way in hell that Dave was going to have a reason to run away tonight.
âIâll have the sweet and sour pasta,â I replied with a small smile.
A waiter suddenly arrived, smiling at me before turning to look at Dave.
âHi, Iâm John. Can I take your order?â the waiter asked.
âTwo sweet and sour pastas please,â Dave replied with a grin.
âCertainly, and to drink?â the waiter asked.
I looked towards where Juliet was hiding; rolling my eyes at her as she gestured to Dave then showed me two thumbs up. God, sometimes she was crazier than me, I thought as I looked back to John who was looking at me with a slight smile which somehow revealed that it was more than just a friendly âhow may I take your orderâ smile. Swallowing a gulp I replied.
âIâll have lemonade thanks.â
Nodding, John took the menus and left towards the kitchen. I turned back to Dave who was looking in Johnâs direction with a slight frown marring his perfect features. Oh great Viv, he probably realised that youâre not worth it now, and heâs going to go ask John if he knows any other girls that he can go out with. Why canât you play it cool? Why canât you be normal like most other people would, itâs becoming really pathetic how you-
âWell that was obvious,â Dave stated, glancing at me with a smile.
Huh?
âWhat do you mean?â I asked.
Dave grinned wider, âYou didnât notice it, did you?â
I shrugged, curiosity getting the better of me, âNotice what?â
âThe waiter likes you Viv,â Dave chuckled, âhe was flirting with you.â
I frowned, âNo he was not.â
âViv, I know when a guy flirts with a girl, and John over there was definitely flirting with you,â Dave replied, his grin only widening.
I crossed my arms over the table, âAnd youâre happy about this?â
Dave shrugged, âHey, if a guyâs flirting with my date that only means that Iâm one really lucky guy.â
I felt a smile tugging at my lips, âReally?â
Dave laughed yet again, âYouâre so innocent Viv, but yes really, I mean youâre a lot more different to most girls.â
âAinât that the truth,â I replied with a sigh.
âItâs a good thing,â Dave quickly cut in, âI mean, I donât like girls like-â
âOh my God,â a girly, yet annoying voice interrupted.
I turned to face my arch nemesis, Jessica Hubert. Her fake bleached blonde hair cascaded over her shoulders in perfect curls, her icy blue eyes portraying her hatred for me even though her lips were curved up into a sickly sweet smile, directed at Dave of course. But what really made my breathing hitch and my body to go against my mind was the fact that Matt was next to her, looking like he was ready to enter a modelling shoot.
Dark brown hair and eyes green enough to make the Amazon jungle jealous. He wore plain jeans and a semi-formal shirt that made his well-muscled chest to stand out. My mind instantly ran back to the night of Chrisâs party, where Matt had cornered me in the kitchen drunk and obviously not recognising me. Even though I felt like slapping Matt harder than I ever could, I couldnât help but wonder if Matt would have really taken advantage of me, even if he had known that I was the same Vivienne he told to get lost.
âJessica, Matt,â Dave greeted less than enthusiastically.
Jessica continued to smile at Dave, before turning to me, her smile dropping instantly, âVivienne,â she sneered, âa date huh?â
Mattâs eyes widened suddenly, âViv?â
Oh God, no. Viv, just run out of there! Donât look at him, he hurt you, remember? No wait, donât remember, God you canât cry, not now, not in front of Dave! Breathe Viv, youâll be fine. This is your night, not his or Jessicaâs. Youâre Vivienne Lanter, the reformed geek, youâre pretty and confident and you donât care about what anyone thinks about you. You made it through school without dying after The Dance; you can make it through this.
âHi Matt,â I greeted in a steady voice.
Yes! Show you him whoâs the boss Viv!
Mattâs smile faltered slightly, âYou look wow.â
I felt a lump in my throat. Suddenly I felt my hand being squeezed, causing me to glance at Dave who gave me a reassuring smile. Instantly I felt all the nervousness and fear evaporate, my confidence soaring through the roof as I turned back to Matt who was staring at me wide eyed while Jessica continued to send me daggers that normally would make me turn to a bumbling idiot, but right that moment, I didnât give a care at all.
âThanks Matt,â I replied, ânow if you donât mind, Dave and I are on a date.â
I turned back to Dave, who was smiling widely at me, causing me to smile back at him. His hand squeezed tighter around mine making my stomach do small backflips as I stared into his deep blue eyes. Jessica made a rather unattractive sound in the back of her throat before she took hold of Mattâs arm, dragging him towards another table, occasionally sending me daggers across the room.
âYouâre definitely changing,â Dave commented, âand I canât say that I donât find it attractive.â
For what felt like the millionth time that night, I found myself turning a deep shade of red.
âLanter,â Sean greeted.
My eyes widened slightly as they fell onto Sean looking as hot as a Sex God as ever. His jet black hair fell over his forehead messily; causing him to look even more dangerous than I thought was possible. He wore a simple black t-shirt and jeans, along with combat boots while a smirk plastered across his face looked back at me. I swallowed a small giggle as I forced a smile onto my lips.
âSean,â I replied, âwhat are you doing here?â
Suddenly Juliet emerged from behind, a grin on her face as she glanced at me.
âI called him to help out,â Juliet replied.
I frowned, âJules,â I groaned, âI told you that you could have gone home ages ago.â
Juliet shook her head, âNo thank you, Iâve got nothing better to do and besides, Seanâs paying for the popcorn.â
Sean sighed, âSadly enough.â
âOh no,â I mumbled, âYouâre not coming into the movies too?â
âYeah we are,â a girly squeal replied.
My eyes came into contact with Amanda, who was dressed to impress. With a super short denim skirt and a top that hugged her slim figure perfectly, she grinned at me, holding three tickets in her hand. Yes Viv, youâre probably going to be watched as you lose your VL status to Dave in the cinema. Why oh why did you have to tell Juliet about the movie you were watching? I sighed, turning back to Sean with a frown.
âYou guys have got to go,â I muttered, âif Dave finds out that youâre spying on me thenâ¦â
âOh please,â Amanda replied, âDaveâs more interested in you than us,â she continued, âbesides you definitely need someone to support you.â
Juliet nodded in agreement, âYeah you do Viv, and I so want all of the deets after the movie.â
I turned to glance at Dave who was busy buying the tickets, before turning back to the three people in front of me with a frown, âFine, but if you try anything in there I swear to God-â
âWeâre not going to try anything Lanter,â Sean replied with a smirk, he threw his arm around my shoulders; âyouâre going to knock that swimmer boy dead.â
I felt my stomach doing more than simple backflips as Seanâs arm touched me, sending tiny tingles down my spine. I shook the feeling off and the blush that was rising in my cheeks at the moment. Turning back to look up at Sean I forced a smile onto my lips. God, why are you acting like this Viv? Itâs just Sean! Besides, youâre on a date with Dave whoâs going to probably kiss you in the cinema and-oh God, heâs going to kiss you and you donât know how to-
âLanter,â Sean asked, âyouâre okay?â
âY-Yeah,â I stuttered, âIâm f-fine.â
Juliet raised an eyebrow at me but I sent her a smile, before muttering that I needed to use the toilet before going back to Dave. With quick steps I ran hastily towards the toilets, like a mad woman who had drank too much orange juice and whose bladder was about to burst any moment. What was wrong with me? It was just Dave. Sweet and caring Dave who didnât judge me, the guy who was amazingly hot and thought that I was cute, he was actually taking me out a date and hadnât yet made an excuse to run away. So why was I freaking out about kissing him?
âLanter,â a voice broke into my thoughts.
I jumped up in shock, turning to stare at Sean. I swallowed a lump, and glanced away as my back pressed against the wall outside of the toilets. I sighed.
âI canât do it,â I whispered so softly, that I was afraid Sean hadnât heard me.
Sean surprised me by coming to stand next to me, his body closer than I had expected. His hand took mine in his gently as his thumb stroked my palm slowly, causing heat to spread to my cheeks and jolts of electricity to suddenly surface. I bit back a gasp as Sean turned to me, his warm breath fanning against my face, his lips inches away from mine. What was happening?
âYou can Lanter,â Sean breathed out, causing my heart rate to pick up speed.
I sucked in a breath, âNo, Iâm going to mess up everything.â
âTrust me Lanter, if anyoneâs going to mess up then itâs probably going to be Dave,â Sean replied.
âBut,â I mumbled, âDaveâs kissed tons of girls before,â I shook my head, âand I havenât even kissed a guy before.â
Seanâs finger slipped under my chin, lifting my face up so that I was forced to stare back at his eyes, âI could teach you to kiss.â
