Chapter 123
If this were to get out, people might start saying she was being mistreated in the Sumners.
Clarkâs smile deepened as he looked at Damon and said, word by word, â Uncle Damon, you probably donât know yet, but Nyla moved back today.â
Damon widened his eyes and turned his icy gaze to Nyla, who had remained silent.
He wanted to ask her if she really intended to forgive Clark just like that, but he couldnât. He was only her husbandâs uncle. Beyond that, they had no other relationship. What right did he have to question her?
Even though Nyla kept her head down, she could feel Damonâs gaze on her. It sent a chill through her entire body, making her shiver involuntarily.
After several seconds, Damon chuckled. âWell, thatâs good to hear.â
He looked away, a smile on his face, but his eyes were cold.
Clarkâs gaze flashed with triumph. âUncle Damon, you should focus on your own love life. I think Ms. Hulle and you are quite a match, donât you think, Nyla?â
He turned to Nyla, seeking her opinion.
Nyla forced a smile and nodded as she said, âYes, Ms. Hulle is elegant and beautiful. She and Uncle Damon do seem wellâsuited.â
âThen letâs take your word for it, Ms. Nyla,â Erin said with a smile, though her gaze was scrutinizing Nyla.
She couldnât shake the feeling that Damon treated his nieceâinâlaw differently.
The rest of the meal was somewhat silent, with everyone lost in their

Near the end of dinner, Clark received a call from his secretary, informing him of an issue at the company that needed his attention.
He planned to take Nyla with him, but Marie interjected, âYou go handle the work. Nyla will stay here. I want to talk to her.â
After a momentâs hesitation, Clark told Nyla, âWait for me here. Iâll come back to pick you up once Iâve dealt with the issue.â
Nyla nodded. âOkay.â
Seeing his worried expression, Marie asked with a frown, âWhat? You donât trust her here?â
âNo, Grandma, Iâll head to the company now,â Clark answered.
Shortly after Clark left, Erin also got up to leave.
Marie smiled warmly at her and said, âErin, come visit us often.â
âYes, Iâll be sure to visit regularly. I hope I wonât become a nuisance,â Erin replied.
âNot at all. If it werenât so late, Iâd ask you to stay longer. Damon, see Erin out,â Marie said.
After Damon and Erin disappeared through the doorway, Marie turned to Nyla with a serious expression and said, âCome with me.â
Half an hour later, Nyla followed Marie out of the study.
âRemember what I just told you?â Marie asked.
Nyla lowered her gaze and nodded. âYes, Grandma, I remember.â
âGood. Now that youâre part of the Sumners, your actions reflect on us. Itâs normal for couples to argue, but if it gets out, it will ember

Sumners,â Marie reminded her.
âYes, Grandma,â Nyla replied.
Seeing Nylaâs obedience, Marie didnât say anything more and turned to go back to her bedroom.
Nyla walked out of the living room, planning to wait for Clark in the garden pavilion.
The garden was dimly lit, with only a few lights. As she reached the pavilion, she realized someone was already there.
It was Damon!
His expression was icy, and he looked unhappy.
Nyla frowned and was about to leave when Damonâs cold voice stopped her. âCome here!â
