Chapter 294
Gabriel paused on the other end of the line and asked, âis
someone with you?â
âYes,â Nyla replied.
âThen thatâs all for now,â Gabriel said.
After hanging up, Nyla turned to Damon and asked, âWhy did you suddenly ask what I want for dinner tonight?â
Damonâs expression remained calm. âI just happened to see it and thought Iâd ask. Did I interrupt your call?â
âNo,â Nyla replied, though she found it a bit odd that he would speak up while she was still on the phone.
Damon seemed to disregard her puzzled look and asked, âWho
was on the line?â
âWrenâs son. He went abroad when I was in university. We donât stay in touch very often, so I havenât mentioned him to you,â Nyla explained.
Damon narrowed his eyes slightly but did not press further.
The two of them ended up going to the restaurant Damon had suggested for dinner.
Clark, who had just wrapped up a meeting with a client, spotted them as they were finishing up. His gaze hardened, and after seeing off his client, he walked directly toward them.

âUncle Damon, Nyla, what a coincidence to see you here,â he said.
Nylaâs appetite soured at the sound of Clarkâs voice, and she remained silent, her face cold.
Damonâs expression was indifferent. âYouâre interrupting us.â
Clark chuckled. âUncle Damon, I just wanted to say hello. I was afraid that if I didnât come over, people might think I am rude. Itâs just that Nyla and I have recently divorced. Donât you think itâs a bit too soon for you two to be having dinner together?â
Nyla frowned and finally looked up at him. âNo matter how soon it seems, itâs not sooner than you. After all, you were already involved with Jordyn while we were still married.â
Her disgust and impatience were evident, and Clarkâs face darkened as if he had been stung.
âNyla, weâre divorced now. Itâs pointless to keep bringing up the past. Or do you still have feelings for me?â Clark asked.
Sarcasm flickered in Nylaâs eyes. âYou should probably look in the mirror.â
If she still had feelings for him after everything, it would be a clear sign of insanity.
Just as Clark was about to respond, his phone rang.
After answering, he hung up with an icy expression, his teeth clenched as he glared at Nyla. âDid you file a lawsuit against Mom for spreading rumors?â

Nyla was surprised at how quickly William had acted.
She smiled slightly and tilted her chin. âThatâs your mother, not mine. Donât get it mixed up. Besides, she did spread rumors that I harmed her. Whatâs wrong with filing a lawsuit?â
âSheâs an elder. How can you treat an elder like this?â Clark questioned.
Before Clark could continue, Damon raised an eyebrow and interjected, âWhat elder? Nylaâs my girlfriend now, so by seniority, sheâd be your aunt. Maybe you should reflect on how youâre speaking to your aunt.â
Clarkâs expression was one of someone who had swallowed a fly. He clenched his jaw and forced out, âUncle Damon, youâre not even married to her yet.â
âSo this is how you speak to an elder?â Damon asked.
Seeing Damon use his own words against him, Clark was enraged. âUncle Damon, youâve been entangled with my exâwife and have embarrassed the Sumners. What kind of attitude do you expect me to have?â
âThe one who embarrassed the Sumners is you,â Damon stated flatly.
Gritting his teeth, Clark sneered. âIâm heading to the police
station. I donât want to argue with you, but you will regret this!â
