Chapter 427
Sensing that Nyla was about to refuse, Damon pressed further, âIâll drive you, or your can stay at my place. Your choice.â
âIâll call Valarie first,â Nyla replied.
She quickly dialed Valarie and briefly explained what had happened, asking if she could stay at her place for a few days.
Valarie, furious, immediately offered to come pick her up.
Just as Nyla was about to agree, Damon calmly took the phone from her hand.
âItâs too late for that. Iâll take Nyla over. You donât need to come,â he said firmly.
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line before Valarieâs voice came through, much louder. âDamon, why are you at Nylaâs place?!â
Damon ignored her question. âJust send me the address, Ms. Weir. Iâll take care of it.â
He hung up and handed the phone back to Nyla, his expression calm. âGo pack your things.â
Nyla pressed her lips together as if she wanted to say something. Seeing the calmi determination in Damonâs eyes, she took the phone and nodded before heading into
the bedroom.
Less than ten minutes later, she emerged with a small bag.
Damon raised an eyebrow at the bag, which clearly contained no more than a few
outfits. âThatâs all?â
âYeah. Iâm only staying a few days,â Nyla answered.
âAlright, letâs go,â he said, reaching out to take the bag from her.
Nyla pulled it back. âNo need, Iâve got it.â
Damon didnât insist. He turned and headed toward the door.
On the way to Valarieâs place, Damon reminded Nyla that she could always reach out to him if anything happened.
âWeâve already confirmed it was Gabriel. I expect the issue with the data leak to be resolved within two weeks, so try not to worry,â Damon assured.

Nyla nodded, then hesitated before asking, âWill Prospectus Technology sue Gabriel?
âYes. But if he can come up with compensation, there might be a settlement,â Damon replied.
Hundreds of millions⦠That was no small amount. If such a debt fell on Nyla, she wasnât sure she could ever repay it in her lifetime. She doubted Gabriel had that much money either.
âIf he canât pay, will he go to prison?â she asked.
The car stopped at a red light, and Damon turned to look at her. âIf he canât pay, then yes, heâll likely face prison time.â
Nylaâs hands clenched tightly in her lap, and her face turned pale.
Damon noticed and frowned. âAre you worried about him?â
âNo, not at all. If he ends up in prison, itâs his own fault. I just⦠never thought things would get to this point,â she remarked.
She remembered how, when Harrison first married Wren, she and Gabriel had gotten along quite well. She had believed they would grow into close siblings. It turned out she had been naïve.
Wren never saw her as family, and now even Harrison had chosen to side with Wren.
Nyla thought that maybe the day Harrison remarried was the day she lost her home.
âIâll have someone protect you. I wonât let him come anywhere near you,â Damon said. firmly.
âThereâs no need. Iâll be safe staying with Valarie,â Nyla said, rejecting his offer.
After a moment of silence, Damonâs voice came out hoarse. âNyla, please donât push me away. If I hadnât come back for my phone tonight⦠I donât want to think about what might have happened. I canât go through that again. I donât want you to be in any danger.â
Although he tried to keep his voice steady, Nyla could hear the lingering fear in his
