Chapter 782
Pedro nearly staggered back in anger.
âTake him away! Stop letting him spout nonsense here!â he barked.
Whether Jane was involved or not, the priority was to downplay the situation. If it hadnât been for Theoâs foolishness, things might have already been smoothed over.
The more Pedro thought about it, the angrier he became. Once Damon and Nyla left, he was determined to teach Theo a lesson. The young man needed to know when to speak up- and when to stay quiet.
Jane trembled slightly, struggling to stay calm. Only she, Pauline, and Gabriel knew about this incident, and none of them would betray her. Thus, Theo had to be bluffing. There was no way he could know!
Theo pushed Quincy aside, saying, âMom, Iâm fine.â
He took out his phone, eyeing Jane with a cold smile. âJane, everything you said to Gabriel by the rock garden? I recorded it. Letâs play it for everyone, shall we?â
Without waiting, he pressed play.
Instantly, Jane and Gabrielâs voices echoed through the room, plunging the atmosphere into silence.
Pedro looked at Jane with profound disappointment. âJane, did you really do this?â
Janeâs face turned pale, her clenched fists finally loosening. Under Pedroâs cold gaze, she slowly lowered her head. âGrandpa, Iâm sorry.
âAre you out of your mind? Why would you do something like this to Ms. Kinsey? Have you lost your senses?!â Pedro demanded.
Jane bit her lip, remaining silent.
Pedro turned to Damon, his expression filled with remorse. âMr. Sumner, itâs my fault for not teaching my granddaughter better. I apologize on her behalf, and I hope Ms. Kinsey can forgive her this once.â
Upon seeing Pedro bow in apology, Janeâs heart twisted with guilt and regret. She quickly moved to help him up. âGrandpa, this was my mistake. I should be the one apologizing!â
Pedro pushed her aside. âBe quiet!â
Tears welled up in Janeâs eyes, and her heart ached.
Pedro was a proud man who had never bowed his head to anyone for as long as she could remember. On his 70th birthday, of all days, he had to lower himself to a person half his age

Jane wiped her tears and turned toward Nyla, her voice breaking. âMs. Kinsey, this is all fault. I was jealous that youâre prettier than me, and I lost my senses. Whatever you choose to doâwhether itâs calling the police or anything else Iâll accept.â
Nyla looked at Jane emotionlessly. They had no prior grudges, yet upon meeting for the first time, Jane had instructed a maid to harm her out of jealousy. It nearly caused her to be disfiguredâa testament to Janeâs malicious nature.
In the past, Nyla wouldnât have hesitated to call the police.
However, with the Wilkiesâ influence in Saintornia and the fact that she hadnât been injured, filing a report would only embarrass Jane without much consequence. It made more sense to use the familyâs embarrassment to negotiate something beneficial for Damonâs company.
As she was lost in thought, Pedro spoke up. âMs. Kinsey, as long as youâre willing to let Jane off, name your terms for compensation. The Wilkies wonât refuse.â
If this went to the police, the Wilkiesâ reputation would be in shreds.
