CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Sakyja's Sweetening

8:13 am.

"Get up. We bout to go to the hospital." An already dressed Tae said waking Ky up.

Truth be told he had never went to sleep. He sat in bed with Ky until he felt like she was "sleep enough" before leaving out to handle business with Saun.

"Yea? Where ya at bih?" Saun answered the phone.

"Here I come. I had to make sure mama was straight. Brushing my teeth na." Tae answered before picking up his tooth brush and wetting it.

It was like 2 o'clock in the morning and Saun and Tae had business to take care of. Especially now being that Juke was in the hospital with needs. It was only them now, and they was gone hold shit down per usual.

"You and Ky getting real close. Might as well lock that down." Saun laughed.

Tae spit his toothpaste out before speaking. "Man I been thinking about it, I just don't want to drag her in no shit that I know ain't apart of her life style. That shit not P to me." He said shrugging.

"Yea but you just gotta let her know. Let her make that decision on her own." Saun said.

"Im not telling that damn girl what I do. She might pass out with her extra ass." Tae chuckled shaking his head before rinsing his mouth with mouthwash.

"Well just leave her alone then. Don't lead her on nigga."

" I tried. I was just trying to give her some to put on in that cold ass hospital and she beat a nigga ass. I like that. You can't beat my ass and then try to leave me. That's not gangsta'." Tae mugged thinking about how she kept bringing up she would get new niggas.

"Mane fuck off my phone. Text me when you near." Saun said bursting out in to laughter before hanging up the phone.

Tae walked out the bathroom and towards the bed where Ky was sprawled out in all of his attire, even his bonnet.

He put his hand close to her nose to make sure she was still breathing before nodding and going towards his closet.

Pulling on some black sweats and a black hoodie, Tae prepped his mind for what he was about to do. He didn't want to do it but he had no choice. One brother in jail, the other one laying in the hospital, and bills on top of bills, something had to give.

"This shit hard." Tae mumbled referring to life as he pulled a gun out of the tote he had hidden behind clothes in his closet.

"That's not shit. You know how much we risking? And you tamnbout a lil ass 10 g's?" Saun snapped off at Lucky.

Lucky was an old head who the boys would go to for their orders that they would get paid for. He was an ass hole most of the time but due to him always having his room packed with corner boys, they couldn't handle him like they always wanted to.

You see Saun, Syx, Juke, and Jaybo all started off as corner boys. They would work the streets as soon as school let out and wouldn't get back in until 12 the next morning.

Their mothers always suspected their life style and often lectured them but that didn't stop them from handling their business and making their money.

At first, it was just them and a few other workers so money wasn't tight and everybody could get their fair share. But Lucky decided to fill the streets with young cats who were only in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade.

He sent these young boys to work and collect most of the money for him with them only getting a measly five percent profit off what they made per day. Being that they were so young, they thought they were coming up.

Jaybo decided that he wouldn't be childishly selling dime bags with some thirteen year olds and that he wanted to move up to a higher ranking. The others agreed and followed in his foot steps.

That's when they started working crack, cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and even hits. The flipped packs, pulled schemes, and even killed. Their life had changed drastically but so did their flow of money.

"Watch how the fuck you talking nigga." Lucky laughed making Tae's hand twitch. He so badly wanted to pull out his gun and put a hole in between the bastard's eyes.

"Yea ight." Saun said laughing also, unbothered. He would go out shooting about his respect but he knew he had people counting on him, including Tae. He couldn't leave him out here alone.

" I can go up to 25. That's it." Lucky said scuffing.

"Bet." Tae said simply before walking out with Saun right behind him.

"Bitch ass nigga." The man angrily said before spitting out blood close to Tae's shoes.

"Oh you disrespectful." Tae laughed before pistol whipping the man getting a heart felt groan in return. Enthusiasm coursed through his body after hearing the man wince in pain.

"Syx? Bitch ass Nigga ain't you supposed to be on the corner some where selling dime bags for your hoe ass sister and her baby? BigK got locked for missing me. You know that?" The man said laughing referring to his sister's baby dad, trying to taunt Tae.

Tae stood there with his jaw clenched. A ray was gone tell it all fasho so he let him talk.

"Is sunnyboy with you? Juke the demon? No what about Jaybo?" The man continued to laugh and taunt.

"Come here, come closer. How bout you tell sunny boy that Jaybo locked because your aim was ass on lil Dayla's brother." He said bursting in to annoying laughter, but quickly being cut off by Tae shooting at his head.

"Come on nigga what you doing? Let's go!" Saun said pulling at Tae's hoodie since he was froze standing over the man, staring at the blood leak from his head and the brains that were scattered.

"You ready?" Ky asked walking out the bathroom as Tae sat on the bed on his phone.

"It look like it?" Tae asked smartly before standing up and hiking his pants up.

Ky just laughed in return. She had some shit up her sleeve for him constantly playing with her. She knew he had snuck out last night and quite surprisingly, she didn't even feel no type of way.

She knew before she did what she did last night that he would never learn until the shoes switched feet. It was all apart of her plan.

"Come the fuck on while you sitting there grinning like a villain." Tae said mugging her as he held on to her arm and walked her out the house, still holding on to it as he locked the door.

"Let me drive." Ky said snatching the keys from his hand and running towards his car.

"Fuck no." Tae said watching her happily get in to his drivers seat.

"Kyja get in your seat." Tae said pointing to the passenger seat, after yanking the passenger door open.

"Get in before you get left. I need to go see my cousin." Ky shrugged snapping her seat belt on and adjusting the seat to reach the gas and brakes.

Tae just mugged her before plopping into the seat and slamming the door.

"Don't slam my door lil boy." Ky said mugging him.

"Shut the fuck up. Pull off slow." Tae said watching her as he pulled on his seat belt. He never wore a seat belt but he was in fear of his life right now. He was more scared than he be when he be out "working."

"Oh shut it up." Ky laughed before pulling off super fast making Tae grab onto the console tightly.

"As fast as you drive, I know you not scared?" Ky taunted him grabbing his face with her hand.

"Keep both hands on the wheel." Tae said in all seriousness, taking her hand off his face and pushing it towards the wheel.

"You is really scared right now like you don't drive like you in fast and furious." Ky said becoming shocked.

"I be in control of the car when I'm driving not some lil ass kid who can barely reach the pedals without the seat being in the windshield." Tae said mugging.

"Wat Eva, Wat Eva." Ky waved him off and pressed the gas harder.

"And give me my fucking keys." Tae said reaching in Ky's pocket snatching his keys out.

They were in the hospital walking towards Juke's room. Ky had scared Tae so bad driving, he told himself he would never be in the car while she was driving again.

"You so extra." Ky waved him off as they approached Juke's room.

Ky stomach tightened up due to her nervousness. This would be her first time actually seeing Juke all hooked up to stuff and laying in a hospital bed.

"Oh God." Ky sighed out as she walked in seeing him. She was so used to seeing him laughing and smiling. This was definitely different for her. Her eyes began to water.

"It's cool mama. He gone be straight." Tae said grabbing her and wiping the tears that fell from her eyes.

"I need to call my mommy. Excuse me." Ky said before walking towards the bathroom that was included in the patient's room.

Ky dialed her number as she look at her self in the mirror. She was insecure most of the time but she was actually very pretty.

"Hey mommy. I'm just letting you know I'm with a friend. I would have texted you last night but so much was going on with Juke and stuff." Ky said after Sakina picked up.

"Hey baby, okay. How you been?" Sakina asked lowly.

"I been alright. What about you? You sound all glum?" Ky asked with her face frowned after hearing her mom's tone of voice.

"Yea. Isaiah is in jail." Sakina said sighing feeling tears about to fill her eyes again. She had been crying since last night when she got his call.

"What? For what?!" Ky asked feeling herself about to cry as well.

"He won't say." She shrugged. "Just says he's ok and will be out soon and not to worry."

"Hold on Ma. I got to go. I need to process this." Ky said before triple tapping the end button per usual and walking out the bathroom.

As she walked out, she saw Saun and Tae talking amongst themselves before she could see Tae nudge him to be quiet.

"Hm. Hey bubba." Ky said dryly.

"Hey li sis." Saun said reaching out to hug her.

Ky hugged him back before sitting down next to Juke in the chair that was already right there. She grabbed his hand holding it in between her hands and began praying over him.

Once she was done, she lifted her head up and placed his hand back under the cover. She just stared at him in disbelief that he was really in this situation. Sitting there looking at him made her think about Jaliy. She decided to call.

"Hey bestie. How you doing?" Ky said after she answered.

"Hey. Not good. I can't eat. I'm sick to my stomach Ky." Jaliy said thinking about her boyfriend again.

"I don't what to say Liy. I hate this for you. You know I'm so sensitive too, I been crying back to back."

"Lol I know right. I can't even bring my self to come see him. My heart aches, especially when I see him and he can't even talk back t-to me." Jaliy said before getting choked up by her words. A lump formed in her throat as hot tears dripped from her eyes.

"It's going to be okay, I promise it is. Come see him. I'm right up here. I can send Tae to come get you cause I rode with him and he not gone let me drive his car no more." Ky said smacking her teeth with her lips.

"And aint."

"And sassy."

"And a knock your head off your neck."

"Hey now. Don't be getting to fighting over my man." Jaliy yelled from over the phone.

"Mane he a be stirring this shit up. You know he so messy." Saun said laughing thinking about how playful and goofy Juke was.

"Whatever baby do is cool." Jaliy snapped finding her self actually having a genuine laugh.

"I know that's right. I wish I had a "baby"." Ky said frowning.

Tae just looked at her. He wanted to tweak out on her but it was a time and place for everything. She definitely had him fucked up.

"You don't put your mouth on somebody like that and then tamnbout you wish you had a boyfriend. Bitch I am yo boyfriend." Tae thought as he quietly mugged her.

"You need Tae to come get you?" Ky asked Jaliy to be sure but Jaliy declined.

"Im going to get pops to bring me on his way to work. It's on the way, no need to waste gas." Jaliy nodded thinking over her perfect plan as she got ready to force her self out of bed.

"Okay I'm going to see you in a lil bit okay? I love you." Ky said getting ready to hang up the phone.

"I love you more." Jaliy responded before hanging up.

"We bout to step out. You gone be cool? You need some?" Tae asked Ky as he pulled off his jacket covering her up with it. She looked cold.

"Yes and no. How long y'all gone be?" Ky asked.

"Shit not long at all. We just finna go sit in the car and talk about some shit. Work shit." Tae shrugged before lifting her chin up and placing a kiss on her lips.

"Okay. Be safe." Ky smiled. Even tho they were just going around the corner and a few steps out of the hospital she still made sure to say it.

"Fasho."

Tae and Saun walked out the room heading towards the exit.

"What's so serious you gotta tell me?" Saun asked as they got in to Tae's car.

"Who is Dayla brother?" Tae asked.

"She don't got one. Just a sister." Saun said with his face frowned up. "Why?"

"She do got a brother. Bandz told me before I did that thang." Tae shrugged.

"Can't listen to a nigga who bout to die. Be smarter than that nigga." Saun said smacking his teeth with his lips.

"Naw you can't listen to a bitch who won't even tell you how she ended up on the opp side?" Tae said as he mugged him upside his head.

"Watch your mouth nigga." Saun said looking at him crazily. "You wouldn't want me calling Ky no shit like that."

"That's not my bitch for one and she wouldn't even have us in this situation. She not a set up hoe like the bitch you fucking on." Tae spat out. "Juke told you the same shit. Everybody saying it, open your eyes."

"I don't know who I should believe. She was the mother of my child." Saun said rubbing his head.

"Bastard baby wasn't yours. Watch what I tell you. You need to listen to the niggas who peelin' niggas shit back boutchu." Tae said bluntly. He had no filter and he knew that. He wasn't working on it either.

"Call her." Tae laughed.

Saun just blinked at him boringly before pulling his phone out his pocket and calling Dayla.

"Hello?" Dayla answered.

"Yea. Aye wyd?" Saun asked.

"Nothing. Just washing sone dishes for my mama. Wassup with you?" She answered as she turned the water on.

"Not shit. Your brother called me said he looking for you." Saun said dryly trying to play it cool but in the inside his heart was booming.

"For what? I just t- wait what brother?" Dayla asked catching her self.

"You just what?" Saun asked feeling himself get mad now.

"Nothing. What brother you talking about?" Dayla asked nervously. You could hear her voice tremble but she was doing good with getting her words out smoothly. A professional liar.

"Some nigga. He called said he looking for my homeboy and he looking for you. He said he can't wait to find him. It's hell to pay." Saun laughed actually telling the truth. He had gotten a call but he ignored it because niggas wasn't on shit if they had to play prank calls.

"Well you need to ask Syx about that." Dayla shrugging getting her self caught up. " I got to go, my ma calling me." She added as she hung up.

"What I tell you? She know some thing. Out of the three home boys you got, why she say my name?" Tae asked looking around making sure nobody was watching them.

"Hell naw. This shit crazy. We gotta go get Ky. Ian feeling this." Saun said also looking around. He felt like some one was watching them and he wasn't fucking it.

Tae hopped out the car with Saun doing the same. As they walked towards the entrance, they saw Jaliy being dropped off. As soon as she walked in the entrance, Saun came behind her grabbing her.

"You gotta see Juke real quick and we gotta go. I'm so sorry, I know you wanna be with him right now but just not right now." Saun explained as he walked with her to the room.

Tae lagged behind as watched everyone. He was good with his eyes. He could see anything that looked out of place. He was very attentive if you wanted to say the least.

As they walked in the room, Jaliy went straight to Juke and began kissing and rubbing his face. Tae walked towards the connected restroom. He didn't see Ky in the room so he figured that's where she would be.

"If you're looking for that sweet young lady, she left out. A man said he needed to see her and she left with him." The nurse said seeing Tae look around as she filled out Juke's check in chart.

Tae's blood began to boil and his heart raced. He was hoping Ky was safe. He didn't pray as often as he should but he began to in that moment. Saun paced the floor while Jaliy held on to Juke's body crying. The stress was overwhelming her.

As the room filled with tension, the door opened making everyone's eyes snap that way. In came Ky with an arm full of snacks but her face held a different look.

"Aye you a give us a minute?" Saun said to the nurse making her nod in agreement before stepping out.

"We got to go." Ky said to Jaliy, instantly dropping the snacks on the floor.

"What's wrong sis? Let me know some thing?" Saun said trying to grab her. Ky snatched away.

"Don't touch me. Y'all are fucking crazy." Ky snapped looking at them crazily.

"What are you talking about Sakyja?" Jaliy asked with her face frowned up.

"Jaliy he's not who you think he is. I know you love him but we really need to leave while we can." Ky said trying to grab her hand.

"I can't leave him like this. I'm not going to." Jaliy said shaking her head making Ky sigh and rub her head with her hands.

Ky wasn't going to leave her either so she plopped in the chair and stared foward.

"I don't know what you think about us, but that shit got to wait. We need to go." Saun said grabbing Jaliy's arm again and Tae grabbed Ky.

"Let me fucking go." Ky snapped off at him but of course he didn't budge.

"Shut the fuck up with that annoying ass voice, causing a scene." Tae grumbled in response. He didn't have time to fight with her, he just needed her safe and under him.

"Put all visitation for Jaelun Williams on hold except for his mother Renee. Tell her there should be no contact or visits from any one but her." Saun said to the lady at the front desk, getting a nod in response. She typed on the computer before she spoke.

"Is there a reason for this no contact order?" The lady asked with her eyebrow raise, making Saun look around for a lie.

"Nothing major.He just has a low immune system and the in and out visitors are high-risk for him being that he's already trying to heal, you know?" Ky jumped in. "We don't want him catching anything that can delay his recovery."

She didn't know what she was lying for. Something in her heart and mind was telling her this would all make sense in a minute though, even if she didn't like the reasoning.

"Okay, makes sense. No problem at all, it's been placed. Have a good day." The lady smiled.

"Thank you. You've been great help." Ky said pushing out a fake smile before turning around and instantly dropping it.

Ky marched out of the hospital walking towards Tae car. She yanked on the door but it was still locked cause her to huff and fold her arms.

"Need to cut all that shit out." Tae said with his face balled up.

"You need to shut the fuck up talking to me." Ky said mugging him back.

"Jaliy I don't know where you going. You riding with me." Ky said to Jaliy who stood by Saun.

"Okay." Jaliy agreed said walking over to Tae's car standing at his back doors.

Tae stood and talked to Saun about where they would be going before he hit the locks and got in, allowing them to also get in.

Ky got in and slammed the door before whipping out her phone. She was about to text Jaliy.

Jaliy just locked her phone and stared out the window as Tae drove, Saun following close behind them. The whole situation was too much process.

She had her boyfriend laying in a hospital bed unresponsive most likely because of his life style. Then she had her best friend telling her she needed to stop talking to him because of his life style. It was crazy and overwhelming.

Tae pulled up to his house and Ky wasted no time hopping out the car. She need to lay down and figure out what the fuck was going on with her life.

She walked in after Tae unlocked the door and kicked her shoes off going straight to his room and burying herself underneath his covers. Jaliy did the same but was instead on the floor in the other room, under a comforter she found in the closet.

Tae and Saun sat in the living room, rolling up. Stressed would be an understatement of how they were feeling. They felt like they couldn't win for shit.

"Where Ky car at?" Tae asked Saun noticing that he was driving his own car today.

"Shit at her house." Saun shrugged. He had dropped her car off and got an Uber from her place. He wasn't about to keep up with her car, hell he barely could keep up with his own stuff. He ain't have no money to replace nobody vehicle either.

"Fasho." Tae said before getting up and stretching then plopping back down.

"What I posed to do about Dayla?" Saun asked. It was on his mind heavy but he didn't know which way to go about it.

"Once you find out what you need to know, you know what you gotta do." Tae shrugged.

"Hell naw. I can't do that shit." Saun said jerking his head back.

"Shit. It's you or her. Or put it like this, your folks or her. Just know if she play, she lay." Tae said not caring at all. He had him self and other people to protect.

"Yea." Saun nodded.

"Then it's clearly people knowing where Juke at and talking to Kyja. Ian fucking with that. I ain't gone play bout that lil shit." Tae chuckled before his hand twitched.

It made him angry to even know some body would approach Ky and put her in some shit like this. He wanted to retaliate but against who? He ain't know nothing but Dayla right now.

He couldn't handle her though. That was the information he needed right there. He had to play shit cool.

"Oh you fucking with that?" Saun said smiling big referring to Ky. Saun felt like Tae and Ky would be perfect for each other. They were the perfect mix and just blended so well together.

"Fucking with that." Tae cheesed big showing his perfect white teeth.

Saun reached in to dap him as they both laughed.

"What you gone do bout Dayla tho for real? We need to figure some shit out and quick. We don't need another Jaybo and Nariyah situation." Tae said shaking his head thinking about that crazy bitch.

"Yea I hate that hoe. With her dead ass." Saun spat out before laughing making Tae look at him and laugh as well.

"This shit really all started because..." Tae started.
