A New Life

A week after their meeting, Gaku and Lili found themselves sneaking through the heavily fortified castle of Count Henderick, a high-ranking official within the World Government. The castle loomed like a shadow in the snowy wilderness, its blackened stone walls surrounded by towering watchtowers. This was Robin's fifth and final mission for the Revolutionaries, and though Gaku and Lili were not official members of the group, they had assisted her in each mission without hesitation.

The mission required surgical precision. The Count was an influential figure, privy to sensitive information and a major supporter of oppressive policies. Robin's task was to assassinate him, crippling one of the World Government's networks in the region.

Robin, Gaku, and Lili moved like phantoms through the castle's shadowy corridors. The air was tense as guards patrolled in coordinated shifts, each armed to the teeth.

"Quiet," Robin whispered as Lili's tail brushed against a suit of armor.

"Don't blame me," Lili whispered back, flicking his tail irritably. "This place is cramped."

Gaku smirked. "Maybe if you didn't insist on riding my shoulder, we wouldn't have this problem."

They maneuvered around the guards, using Robin's abilities to incapacitate anyone who got too close. Her Hana Hana no Mi powers created extra limbs to snap necks, disarm weapons, and open paths silently. Gaku, meanwhile, handled any guards they couldn't bypass, dispatching them with brutal efficiency.

"Up ahead," Robin whispered, motioning toward a grand staircase. "The Count's quarters are on the top floor."

The group pressed onward, but as they ascended the staircase, an alarm blared.

"We've been spotted," Gaku growled, his red eyes glinting with excitement.

Robin sighed. "This always happens."

"Time for Plan B," Lili said, leaping down from Gaku's shoulder.

Gaku nodded. "Robin, finish your job. I'll handle the welcoming committee."

As Robin sprinted up the stairs, Gaku and Lili turned to face the incoming guards. A small battalion rushed toward them, swords and rifles raised.

"You've picked the wrong fight," Gaku said, cracking his neck. He surged forward, his speed leaving afterimages as he weaved through the guards. With one swing of his massive mace, he sent several flying into the stone walls, leaving cracks where they landed.

Lili darted around, biting ankles and slashing with his claws. "I better get a reward for this!" he shouted.

"Yeah, yeah," Gaku muttered, taking down another group with a sweep of his leg.

Robin reached the Count's chambers undetected. The door was ajar, and inside sat the man himself—a corpulent figure draped in fine silk, sipping wine by a roaring fire. He was completely unaware of the chaos unfolding just outside his door.

Robin stepped inside, her dark eyes cold and calculating. But before she could act, Gaku appeared behind her, his weapon slung over his shoulder.

"I thought you'd be faster," he teased.

Robin glared at him but didn't protest. "This is my mission, Gaku."

"Relax," Gaku said, striding forward. "I'm just here to watch."

The Count turned, his face contorting in confusion and terror as he realized he wasn't alone. Before he could cry out, Gaku closed the distance.

"Too slow," Gaku muttered, swinging his mace in a brutal arc. The blow crushed the Count's chest, leaving a massive, gaping hole where his heart used to be. The man slumped lifelessly in his chair.

Robin frowned but didn't comment. "Efficient, if nothing else."

"Of course," Gaku said with a smirk. "Let's get out of here."

Later, as they regrouped in a hidden Revolutionary base outside the castle, the trio recounted their hectic week of missions.

"I still can't believe you made me bait," Lili grumbled, flicking his tail.

"Hey, you volunteered," Gaku said with a grin.

"Only because you bribed me with fish!"

Robin chuckled softly. "You two make an interesting team."

Robin reflected on how much they had accomplished together, but she also felt the pull to train and prepare for her reunion to her crew in one year. The missions had served their purpose, but now it was time for her to prepare for their reunion.

Gaku considered asking Robin to join him and Lili on their journey, but he stopped himself. He could see it in her eyes—her heart belonged with her friends. He didn't want to take that from her.

As Robin prepared to leave, she turned to Gaku. "You've done a lot for me this past week. Thank you."

Gaku shrugged, his usual smirk in place. "Don't mention it."

"You're not as detached as you like to think," Robin said, her tone teasing.

Lili, perched on Gaku's shoulder, grinned. "Oh, he's a big softie. But don't tell anyone—it'll ruin his reputation."

Robin laughed lightly before turning to leave. Gaku watched her go, a rare moment of vulnerability flickering across his face.

After parting ways with Robin, Gaku and Lili set sail for the next island. The journey was quiet until they reached a small, mist-covered port.

As they docked, Gaku felt a shift in the air. "Something's not right," he muttered.

His suspicions were confirmed when a massive figure emerged from the mist. It was Urouge, the Mad Monk, one of the infamous Supernovas.

"I've been waiting for you, Reaper," Urouge said, his deep voice echoing across the dock. "Defeating you will make my name legendary."

Gaku grinned, cracking his knuckles. "You should've picked a better target."

Lili jumped down from Gaku's shoulder, his claws glinting. "You really can't go anywhere without someone trying to kill you, huh?"

"Wouldn't have it any other way," Gaku replied, his red eyes glowing with anticipation.

The dock was eerily silent as Gaku stood over Urouge, the Mad Monk, who was struggling to rise from the ground. The fight had been surprisingly short. Gaku's skill, combined with his monstrous strength and speed, had overwhelmed the Supernova. He hadn't even needed to use Advance, opting instead for his raw power and newly-crafted weapon to put the so-called "Mad Monk" in his place.

Urouge coughed, spitting blood onto the wooden planks of the pier as he looked up at Gaku with wide eyes. The Reaper of the New World loomed over him, his red eyes glowing faintly, his mace resting lazily on his shoulder.

"Is this all you've got?" Gaku asked, his tone casual, but there was an edge of mockery in it. "If you're going to pick a fight, at least make it interesting."

Urouge gritted his teeth, forcing himself onto one knee. "Wait," he said, raising a hand in surrender. "I have... a proposal."

Gaku tilted his head, intrigued but unimpressed. "You've got about ten seconds to say something worth hearing before I finish this."

Lili perched on a nearby crate, licking his paw. "Oh, this should be good," he said sarcastically. "Let's hear what the 'mad monk' has to offer."

Urouge coughed again but managed to force out his words. "You and I... we're alike. Newcomers... shaking the New World to its core. We have strength. Influence. Potential."

"Flattery won't save you," Gaku interrupted, his tone cold.

"I'm not flattering you," Urouge replied, his voice growing steadier. "I'm offering you a chance to make history. With our power combined, we could take down an emperor. Big Mom, the weakest of them all."

The mention of Big Mom made Gaku pause. He had heard of her, of course. Charlotte Linlin, one of the Four Emperors, was a tyrant who ruled over Totto Land with an iron fist. Urouge continued, sensing Gaku's hesitation.

"She's vulnerable," Urouge said. "Her family—her crew—is vast, and unified by blood but they're chaotic. With a plan and our combined strength, we could dismantle her forces, piece by piece, until she has nothing left. Then, we take her down and claim the spoils for ourselves."

Lili jumped onto Gaku's shoulder, glaring at Urouge. "Don't even think about it," he hissed. "This guy's insane. It's a suicide mission."

Gaku's gaze remained fixed on Urouge, his expression unreadable. He considered the proposal for a moment, letting the silence stretch uncomfortably. Finally, he lowered his mace slightly.

"Not bad," Gaku said, almost thoughtfully. "But there's one problem with your plan."

Urouge raised an eyebrow. "And what's that?"

Gaku's smirk returned, sharp and cruel. "I don't borrow strength. If I'm going to take down an emperor—or anyone else—I'll do it on my own terms. I don't need a partner, especially not one who can't even last five minutes against me."

Before Urouge could respond, Gaku swung his mace with terrifying speed, crushing the Supernova's chest. The force of the blow sent shockwaves through the dock, splintering the wood beneath them. Urouge's lifeless body crumpled to the ground, his eyes wide in shock.

"Another loudmouth silenced," Gaku muttered, hoisting his weapon back onto his shoulder.

Lili hopped down from Gaku's shoulder, staring at the corpse. "Well, that escalated quickly. What's the bounty going to look like now?"

Gaku smirked. "Big. And I'll be expecting some posters soon."

As they left the dock, Lili shot Gaku a wary look. "You're not actually thinking about taking down Big Mom, are you?"

Gaku didn't respond immediately, his red eyes fixed on the horizon. "She's an emperor," he finally said. "Taking her down would be monumental. The chaos it would cause... the opportunities it would create..."

Lili jumped onto his shoulder, his tail flicking nervously. "You're insane. We're talking about one of the strongest pirates alive. Even if you somehow dismantled her crew, she's still Big Mom. She's a monster."

Gaku grinned, his expression feral. "Relax, Lili. I'm not going after her yet. But it's an interesting idea, don't you think? Starting with her crew, cutting them down bit by bit until she's left with nothing. By the time I reach her, she'll already be broken."

Lili groaned, burying his face in his paws. "You're going to get us killed."

"Not likely," Gaku replied confidently. "We don't attack blindly. We'll gather information, pick our targets carefully, and strike when the time is right. If we're smart, we can make it happen."

Lili sighed. "Well, you're the boss. But if we're going to do this, I'm going to need a lot of fish. And I mean a lot."

Gaku laughed, adjusting the straps of his mace. "Deal. Now let's get moving. We've got work to do."

As they disappeared into the mist, Urouge's body lay still on the splintered dock, a grim reminder of the Reaper's growing infamy.

Gaku swung his mace up onto his shoulder, his red eyes scanning the horizon. The salty sea breeze stirred his hair as the chaos of the fight with Urouge began to settle in his mind. Lili, perched on his shoulder, let out a low sigh of relief.

"So, are we really doing this Big Mom thing?" Lili asked, his tail flicking back and forth nervously.

Gaku smirked, though his gaze was still far off. "Eventually. But not yet. We're in no rush."

Lili blinked. "Wait, are you actually saying we're going to take a break? Are you feeling okay?"

Gaku let out a dry chuckle. "I'm serious. We've been going nonstop for a while now. It's time to rest a bit."

Lili's eyes lit up with excitement. "You mean it? Like, really rest? None of your crazy schemes or death-defying stunts?"

Gaku nodded. "There's a town not far from here. We'll head there, find an inn, and eat, sleep, and play to our hearts' content. You've earned it. We both have."

Lili leapt into the air, doing an excited flip before landing back on Gaku's shoulder. "Finally! I've been dreaming of fish feasts and a warm bed for weeks! No more dodging bullets, no more bounty hunters or angry marines!"

"Yeah, yeah," Gaku said with a grin. "But don't get too comfortable. A little rest doesn't mean we're done."

Lili waved him off with a paw. "Please, just let me enjoy this moment, you big killjoy."

As they made their way along the path toward the nearby town, Lili couldn't help but daydream aloud.

"I'm talking grilled fish, fried fish, steamed fish... maybe some seafood stew... oh, and desserts too! You think they've got ice cream?"

Gaku chuckled, shaking his head. "You're acting like you've never eaten before."

"I haven't eaten enough!" Lili shot back dramatically. "And don't act like you're not excited. I've seen how much you pack away when no one's watching."

"Fine," Gaku admitted, smirking. "Maybe I am. But don't get used to it."

The town was quaint but lively, nestled on the coast with its cobbled streets bustling with people. The warm glow of lanterns illuminated the evening air, and the smell of fresh-cooked food wafted from nearby stalls.

Lili's eyes sparkled. "It's paradise!"

The two found an inn and checked in without incident. Gaku tossed some coins onto the counter and secured a modest room with two beds, though Lili quickly claimed his spot on the softer one.

After settling in, they headed out to explore the town. Lili darted from stall to stall, dragging Gaku along as he pointed out anything that looked remotely tasty.

"I want this one! No, that one! Wait, both!" Lili exclaimed, his arms full of skewered fish.

Gaku shook his head, amused. "You're worse than a kid."

"And you're worse than an old man!" Lili quipped, shoving a skewer into Gaku's free hand.

As the evening wore on, they found themselves in a cozy tavern. The place was lively, with locals singing sea shanties and clinking mugs of ale. Gaku sat at a table, sipping from a glass of water while Lili devoured a plate of fish.

"This is the life," Lili said between bites, his tail swishing happily.

Gaku leaned back in his chair, letting the warmth of the room and the hum of conversation wash over him. For the first time in a while, he felt at ease.

Lili glanced up at him, a smirk playing on his lips. "You know, you're almost starting to look... relaxed. It's weird."

"Don't get used to it," Gaku replied, though there was a hint of a smile on his face.

They spent the rest of the evening in the tavern, laughing and eating until they were full. For once, there were no battles, no chases, no looming threats—just the simple pleasures of life.

The quaint coastal town buzzed with life as Gaku and Lili explored its nooks and crannies, making the most of their rare downtime. The days were filled with indulgence, the air brimming with the smell of freshly grilled fish and the sound of lively laughter. But for Gaku, one discovery in particular had him feeling like a kid in a candy store—a small but bustling arcade tucked away in one of the town's winding streets.

As soon as they stepped into the arcade, Gaku's normally stoic demeanor melted away. Rows of blinking lights, the hum of old machines, and the chaotic symphony of music and sound effects surrounded him. His red eyes gleamed as he scanned the array of games before him.

"What's this place?" Gaku asked, his voice uncharacteristically filled with awe.

Lili smirked, perched on Gaku's shoulder. "It's called an arcade, genius. Haven't you ever seen one before?"

"I've been in only one before," Gaku admitted, taking slow steps further inside. "But it's amazing."

Lili crossed his arms, trying to suppress a chuckle. "Never thought I'd see the 'Reaper of the New World' losing his mind over video games."

Gaku ignored the jab, his attention fixated on a nearby racing game. Without hesitation, he dropped some coins in and grabbed the wheel. The screen lit up with vibrant colors as the countdown began. Lili hopped down to watch, tail flicking in amusement.

To Lili's surprise, Gaku was shockingly skilled at the game. His reflexes were razor-sharp, and he weaved through the digital racetrack with precision that left the other in-game competitors eating his dust. By the time he crossed the finish line in first place, a small crowd had gathered behind him, cheering.

"That... was awesome," Lili admitted, hopping back onto Gaku's shoulder. "But are you sure this is what we should be doing? I mean, it's fun and all, but don't we have an emperor to worry about?"

Gaku stood up, stretching with a satisfied smirk. "We'll worry about that later. For now, I'm playing every game in here."

True to his word, Gaku worked his way through nearly every machine in the arcade, from fighting games to shooting games to claw machines. He even managed to win Lili a small plush toy shaped like a fish, which the cat proudly carried around like a trophy.

The arcade visit marked the beginning of a week that felt like a dream. Gaku and Lili allowed themselves to fully indulge in the town's peaceful atmosphere. They feasted on fresh seafood, napped in the sun, and explored every corner of the bustling streets. Lili was especially fond of the market, where he could barter for snacks and trinkets, while Gaku found himself drawn to quieter places like the beach, where he could think about what lay ahead.

On their last day in the town, Gaku leaned against a railing overlooking the ocean as the setting sun painted the sky in hues of orange and pink. Lili sat beside him, munching on a fish skewer.

"This was nice," Lili said, his voice uncharacteristically soft. "I don't think I've ever seen you this relaxed."

Gaku nodded. "It was. But it's time to get back to work."

The next morning, Gaku and Lili prepared to leave the town. As they stood at the edge of the port, Gaku looked back at the small town one last time. For a fleeting moment, he considered staying longer. But the fire in his chest told him otherwise—there was still too much to do, too much to prove.

Lili hopped onto his shoulder, clutching his plush fish. "So, what's the plan, boss?"

Gaku smirked, his red eyes gleaming with determination. "We take our time, cut down Big Mom's crew piece by piece. But first, we find out where her weakest links are while getting stronger, somehow."

"And if we can't find any weak links?" Lili asked.

"Then we make them," Gaku replied with a grin, turning his back on the town as they headed toward the open sea.

As the town disappeared over the horizon, Lili sighed. "You know, I'm gonna miss that arcade."

"Then maybe we'll find another one someday," Gaku said, his tone lighter than usual. "But for now, no more distractions. We've got work to do."
