CH 13.4

Geon Hyeong has been busy calling Jung Won since earlier. Meanwhile, Jung Won didn’t pick up the phone citing the noisy subway atmosphere.

No, she actually couldn’t pick up the phone. She was afraid to hear what Geon Hyeong, who met Shin Hee, would say. She was afraid that her little hope would be shattered. Even though she knew from the beginning that she was just a substitute for Shin Hee, somehow her heart ached.

When she parted ways with Shin Hee and left the place, she saw Geon Hyeong’s car parked in front of her. At that moment, Jung Won knew why she automatically hid herself from those two people. It was probably because of her pride.

She should have immediately returned to her own position all this time, but for some reason she just stayed in that place. She should have left that place immediately. So, at least she didn’t have to see the scene when the man embraced and hugged Shin Hee from the big window.

She regretted not listening to her mother. Now she was the one who got hit for disobeying her family’s rules. She shouldn’t have bet and played with someone’s feelings. She shouldn’t have bet on something that she would obviously lose.

“Why didn’t you pick up my phone?”

When her ears heard Geon Hyeong’s voice, Jung Won thought she had heard wrong. But when she lifted her head, he was standing in front of her frowning. He had been waiting for 40 minutes for her.

Geon Hyeong’s patience was about to run out and his relief turned into protest. He was so busy asking Jung Won all sorts of questions that he didn’t even notice the anxiety in Jung Won’s eyes.

“Why are you here?”

“Can’t I?”

Geon Hyeong asked back to Jung Won who was surprised to see him. After parting with Shin Hee, he immediately rushed to this place. He was worried because Jung Won didn’t pick up his phone and decided to wait in front of her house.

But it turned out to be an unpleasant welcome like this. Geon Hyeong’s disappointed and sad face suddenly turned serious.

“No, that’s not it…”

“Come on, let’s go. There’s no time.”

“Where are we going?”

Jung Won asked Geon Hyeong again, who suddenly asked her to leave in a rude manner. However, the man didn’t say anything and just pulled Jung Won’s hand, telling her to get into the car.

“You’re not going to tell me where we’re going?”

Jung Won asked quietly while watching Geon Hyeong’s expression. If this man asked her to meet Shin Hee, Jung Won wanted to reject the invitation immediately.

“Since the agreement between us is over, I guess we should start again from the beginning.”

“Oh, I see. Looks like everything is settled now.”

“Yes, it seems.”

Geon Hyeong’s calm voice seemed to seep like poison into Jung Won’s heart, but the man must not know it.

When Jung Won started all of this, she knew from the beginning that she was just playing a fake role. Even so… it couldn’t be said that she didn’t expect anything more at that time.

That man had been kind and warm to her. Why would he do that? Was it just out of sympathy?

They then arrived at a place that looked simple from the outside, but inside was full of various glittering jewelry. Inside the gold and black room, diamonds sparkled beautifully.

The store manager bowed politely and greeted them and handed them a collection of beautiful diamonds as if they had been waiting for them.

“Choose quickly.”

“Me?”

“Because I can’t choose as I please. Women’s tastes are different.”

Geon Hyeong raised his eyebrows in response to Jung Won’s question. Geon Hyeong couldn’t wait to end his relationship with Shin Hee all this time. Jung Won must be like that too.

Then, to really start his relationship with her, Geon Hyeong wanted to put his promise with a ring that shone beautifully on her finger, not like the ring hanging around her neck.

He must tell people that this woman was now his. However, unlike Geon Hyeong who looked impatient to put the ring on her hand, Jung Won’s face looked unhappy. Were there any more family rules governing Jung Won’s behavior this time?

“Are you sure it’s okay if I choose it?”

“Yes, please.”

Geon Hyeong answered politely again. His request was for Shin Hee’s sake. His request that Jung Won couldn’t refuse.

Jung Won thought that this might be the last time she would help this man. If this ring was for Shin Hee, then it couldn’t look simple.

Finally she chose a plain ring with diamond embellishments that looked beautifully blooming and luxurious like the flower on it.

“Are you sure about this ring?”

“Maybe.”

Geon Hyeong looked intently at the ring chosen by Jung Won and confirmed once again to Jung Won.

“Surely she won’t run away because of the price of this ring.”

“She won’t run away like that.”

“I know… it’s just that people are hard to catch. So, hopefully she won’t run away like my mom.”

Geon Hyeong muttered softly with a faint smile, while Jung Won could only nod while keeping her face turned away.

Was this man worried that Shin Hee, who once ran away from her marriage, would leave him alone? If that’s the case, then he misunderstood. Because Yoo Shin Hee was absolutely not a woman who would run away from Geon Hyeong.

“She won’t.”

“That’s right. Of course, she won’t.”

Hearing his happy-sounding voice, Jung Won had to sigh silently. Now, it was time for the fake to get off the stage. She was the one who was stupid for interfering in the romance of these two people in the first place.

She shouldn’t have played with other people’s love and feelings, but just for the sake of convenience, she foolishly sold her heart. In this world, there were things that could not be compromised. There were also things that could not be given up.

The diamond-adorned white gold ring looked very beautiful and luxurious. The ring that was chosen with each other’s disparate thoughts was placed in a blue silk box and waited gracefully for its owner inside.

Geon Hyeong looked quite busy at that time. While choosing the ring, his cell phone rang several times and he was seen giving orders through the phone with a cold expression on his face.

However, he still looked happy when choosing a ring for Shin Hee who he had just met earlier. It turned out that love could change this person to this extent.

“Alright. Just wait for another 40 minutes. I’ll be there soon.”

“I’ll take the bus. It looks like you’re very busy.”

Jung Won said to Geon Hyeong who again gave orders through his cell phone while waiting for his car to pull out of the parking lot.

Geon Hyeong frowned at Jung Won’s words. He actually wanted to take her. But if he had to leave at dawn tomorrow, he had a lot of business to finish tonight.

Even now, he tried to take a moment to see Jung Won because he missed her. Even now, his busy work schedule was still waiting for him.

“You take a taxi first. I really don’t have time to drive you today.”

“Don’t worry.”

“Taxi.”

Hearing his seemingly irrefutable words, Jung Won finally nodded her head. They said that no matter how busy a man was, he would always have time to see the woman he loves. That saying was true too.

The heart of the man who took the time to meet Shin Hee was no longer in this place. Jung Won completely forgot about the time Geon Hyeong had spent waiting for her in front of her house.

“It looks like I won’t be able to see you for a week. I will be very busy during that time.”

“I understand.”

Not just a week, but definitely forever. This could be her breakup with this man. Jung Won tried to look strong and nodded her head.

“I’m also busy for the time being.”

“Why?”

“I think I told you that gardening is my dream.”

“So, are you going to the village?”

Geon Hyeong smiled widely at Jung Won. It has been a long time since he heard her dream.

“Why are you laughing?”

“I’m not. Isn’t it too soon to realize your dream?”

“It’s too late.”

Jung Won muttered under her breath. She shouldn’t have made an agreement like this with this man. She shouldn’t have been persuaded by his plea and just gone to the village right then.

The time she had spent with this man had only left her with vain feelings and hopes.

How dare she think of taking someone else’s property. What kind of woman am I? How could I forget that there are things that won’t come true in this world?

Geon Hyeong’s car finally arrived and the parking attendant immediately opened the door for him.

“You want to harvest huh? In the fall, people usually don’t plant rice. You’d better go in the spring next year.”

“There’s a vinyl house over there.”

“Don’t be too busy and go here and there. Maybe I’ll visit you once in a while.”

Geon Hyeong smiled and got into his car.  Jung  Won was almost in tears because of her unwillingness and sadness to see the man who left her. The man still didn’t resist Jung Won’s wishes even if it was just a joke.

The love that came to her with such difficulty was now gone. How long will it take for her love to fade and disappear? It looked like she would really suffer from her love.
