Chapter 14 of 14

"I Don't Think She's Ever Coming Back."

Girlfriend // Hailee Steinfeld ✓910 words~5 min read

Y/n's View; 3 years later...

Hailee hasn't talked to me in 2 days and I'm staring to think she meant it when she said she didn't wanna marry me.

We got into this big argument over kids. 3 years ago I said I didn't want kids and said we'd discuss it before we got married. Now we're engaged, I still don't want kids, and she said I've been dismissing her for 3 years.

"How long are you gonna ignore me?" I ask.

Hailee doesn't say anything and flips the page in her book.

"Can you please just talk to me?" I ask.

"No, because I've asked you to talk for the past 3 years and you've done nothing but ignored me." Hailee says.

"Hailee-" I say.

"I told you 3 years ago what I wanted and you said you didn't want that but we could talk about it down the line. Every time I brought it up, you ignored me." Hailee says.

"I told you not wanting kids was a deal breaker. If you knew that we weren't gonna change your mind, you should've ended things right then." Hailee says.

"So you're not gonna marry me because of this thing?" I ask.

"This thing? Is that what you think this is? Just a thing? My feelings are just a thing? What I want is just a thing?" She asks.

"I-" I say.

"Just in case me saying it wasn't enough..." She says.

She takes off her ring and throws it at me. I sigh and she grabs her keys. She leaves and I pick the ring up.

Time Skip

I unlock the door and walk inside.

"I'm home... if you even care." I say, shutting the door.

I put my keys on the counter and look around. I open the door to the garage and don't see the car.

I furrow my eyebrow and shut the door back. I walk upstairs and open the bedroom door.

"What the fuck?" I mumble, staring at the half empty room.

I see a note on the bed and I read it.

"I'm moving out for a few days decide if throwing my life's wishes away is worth marrying you. Don't bother to call or text me, I won't answer. I want you to understand that I'm not doing this to hurt you. I'm doing this because you hurt me." I read.

I sigh and crumble the paper up.

"Fuck." I mumble.

...

Little did I know those days would turn into weeks.

3 weeks later...

"I don't think she's ever coming back." I say.

"She won't marry you because why?" Steven asks.

"Because I don't want kids." I say.

"Ridiculous." Steven says.

"I know!" I say.

"Who doesn't want kids?!" Steven asks.

"You too?!" I ask.

"Shit, I probably have a few kids out there already. College was wild." Steven says.

"Gross." I say.

"Why don't you want kids?" He asks.

"My career; I'm always busy or on some kind of tour. My kids would barely see me." I say.

"Have you heard of this new innovation called technology? It's this great new invention to connect people from anywhere in the world." He says.

"Come on..." I say.

"You're literally just making excuses. Tell me the real reason you don't want kids." He says.

"That's the reason. FaceTime isn't gonna cut it." I say.

"You don't wanna tell me? Fine, I'm not the one living in a hotel room because I refuse to marry you." He says.

I sigh and rest my head on his desk.

Time Skip; Hailee's View

I need my passport to submit some documents but I left it at the house. I know Y/n's usually in meetings around this time, so I figured I'd sneak in and sneak out.

I unlock on the door and walk inside. I shut the door and go upstairs. I go in the bedroom and see Y/n laying in bed. She gets up and we stare at each other.

Damnit, she probably parked in the garage.

She starts crying and I sigh. I hug her and rub her back.

"I'm sorry." Y/n says.

"Don't be sorry for not wanting something." I say.

"I'm just scared." Y/n says.

"Scared of what?" I ask.

"Scared of not being able to do it. Scared of not being a good enough parent. Scared of it all happening too fast and not being ready." Y/n says.

"Baby, that's natural. You don't think I'm scared too? It's just a little easier to tackle when you have someone else doing it with you. It's okay to be scared, especially with something as big as this." I say.

"We don't have to rush into anything. It's our relationship, we can go as fast or as slow as we want. We can even get a pet to prepare. You're not doing this alone." I say.

She nods and I kiss her cheek.

"I'm sorry." Y/n says.

"Don't be sorry, just talk to me about it. You kept this from me for years for no reason. And I'm sorry for leaving but if we didn't have this conversation, I wouldn't have married you." I say.

Y/n chuckles and I stare at her.

"Oh, you're being serious." Y/n says.

"Yeah." I say.

"Oh." Y/n says as I laugh.

Y/n smiles and I hug her.

"I love you." I say.

"I love you too." Y/n says.

I smile and she kisses me.
