Chapter 30: The Steady Foot Challenge

The bright studio lights illuminated the bold, colorful set of the viral internet game show Focus or Fumble. The audience buzzed with excitement as the hosts, Sam and Jess, stood side by side in front of the iconic spinning wheel. Ella, the contestant for this episode, stood nearby, her short platinum blonde hair glowing under the lights, and her confident smirk giving off the vibe of someone ready to take on whatever the final challenge might be.

"All right, Ella!" Sam began, microphone in hand. "You've made it to the final round of Focus or Fumble! One last challenge stands between you and the grand prize. Are you ready?"

Ella crossed her arms with an amused smirk. "Born ready, Sam. Bring it on!"

Jess grinned mischievously. "Well then, Ella, it's time to spin... the WHEEL!"

The audience erupted into cheers as Ella stepped up to the oversized wheel adorned with colorful symbols representing different quirky and unpredictable challenges. With a determined push, Ella sent the wheel spinning. The crowd's anticipation grew as the wheel slowed... tick... tick... tick... until finally, it landed on a small footprint symbol.

The room filled with gasps and laughter.

Sam raised an eyebrow and shouted, "Oh-ho-ho! Look at that! It's time for... The Steady Foot Challenge!"

Jess clapped her hands with a mischievous grin. "Oh, this is going to be fun!"

Two stage crew members rolled out a unique setup: a sleek table with a wooden pedestal featuring a circular hole right in the middle. A tall chair was positioned in front of it.

Ella's confidence wavered slightly as she observed the setup. "Wait... hold on. What exactly am I supposed to do here?"

"Great question, Ella!" Sam said, gesturing grandly to the contraption. "For The Steady Foot Challenge, you'll be seated comfortably in this chair, and you'll place one of your feet through that hole, leaving it exposed and on a pedestal. Your task is simple: answer as many trivia questions correctly as you can in two minutes. However—" he paused dramatically, "—our lovely co-host Jess will be doing her absolute best to... distract you."

The crowd burst into laughter and applause as Jess picked up a small, delicate feather from the host's table and wiggled it in the air.

Ella covered her face with her hands. "Oh no. Oh, this is evil. Who came up with this?!"

Jess giggled. "Come on, Ella, it's just a little focus test. How hard could it be?"

Ella sat down in the chair and slipped off one of her sleek black boots and peeling off her black sock, revealing her bare foot. Taking a breath, she hesitated briefly before sliding her foot through the circular hole in the pedestal. Her sole was now fully exposed with her toes slightly curled in anticipation.

Jess leaned casually against the table, feather twirling in her fingers. "Comfortable, Ella?"

Ella gave an exaggerated eye-roll. "Oh, super comfy. Let's get this over with."

Sam grinned and held up a timer. "Two minutes on the clock! Ella, are you ready?"

She nodded. "Ready."

"And... GO!"

Question 1:

"What is the largest planet in our solar system?"

"Jupiter!" Ella said quickly.

"Correct!" Sam called out.

Jess raised an eyebrow. "You're good... but let's see how steady you stay." With a sly smile, she gently trailed the tip of the feather along Ella's arch.

Ella flinched, her toes splaying out. "Ah—hey, stop that!"

The audience burst into laughter.

Question 2:

"What language is spoken in Brazil?"

"Portuguese!" Ella answered quickly, trying to keep her voice steady as Jess wiggled her fingers lightly along Ella's toes.

"Correct!" Sam confirmed, giving Jess a knowing nod.

Ella squirmed slightly in her seat, her foot twitching in the pedestal. "Jess, you are the worst!"

Jess laughed, "Oh, you love it."

Question 3:

"What is the name of the ship that sank in 1912?"

"The Titanic!" Ella said confidently.

"Correct!" Sam called out.

Jess switched tactics and picked up a makeup brush from the host's table. With a wicked grin, she began lightly brushing it along the ball of Ella's foot.

Ella's shoulders tensed, and she let out an involuntary squeak. "Y-you—this is not fair!"

Sam chuckled. "Stay focused, Ella. The clock is ticking!"

Question 4:

"What is the chemical symbol for gold?"

"Uh... Au!" Ella blurted out.

"Correct!" Sam cheered.

Jess smirked, setting the brush aside and pulling out a pen from her pocket. With slow, deliberate movements, she scribbled a few pretend "notes" on the arch of Ella's foot.

Ella let out a burst of giggles, her foot twitching uncontrollably in place. "Oh my gosh, Jess! That tickles so bad!"

"Focus, Ella!" Sam called out, barely containing his laughter.

With only ten seconds left on the timer, Jess pulled out the feather again and began fluttering it rapidly across Ella's toes. Ella was practically in tears from laughter, her foot twitching in every direction it could manage while still trapped in the pedestal.

"Five... four... three... two... one—TIME!" Sam shouted.

The timer buzzed, and the crowd erupted into applause.

Ella immediately yanked her foot out of the hole, clutching it protectively while laughing uncontrollably. "You guys are terrible! That was pure torture!"

Jess smirked as she set down the feather. "But you did it, Ella! And you answered every question correctly. You're officially a Focus or Fumble champion!"

Sam gestured toward the audience. "Give it up for Ella, everyone!"

The crowd gave a roaring cheer as Ella stood and took an exaggerated bow.

As the credits rolled, Ella leaned into the camera with a grin. "To anyone watching this... never trust Sam and Jess when they say it's 'just a little distraction.'"

Jess laughed, tossing the feather aside. "Oh, don't pretend that you didn't have fun."

Sam clapped his hands together. "That's all for today, folks! Join us next time on Focus or Fumble for more outrageous challenges, more laughter, and more unforgettable moments! Goodnight, everyone!"

The screen faded to black as the studio audience's cheers echoed in the background.
