Stacy adjusted her fitted jacket as she stepped into the modest audition room. The young director, Miles, sat behind a small camera rig, a bright smile on his face. Stacy had been to dozens of auditions this month, but there was something endearing about how casual this one felt.
"You did a fantastic job with the scripted scenes," Miles said, his voice warm with encouragement. "But there's one more part of the audition. It's... a bit unconventional."
Stacy raised an eyebrow. "Unconventional?"
Miles leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees. "So in this short film, your character gets interrogatedâtickled, specificallyâfor information. It's a comedic scene, lighthearted, but we need to see if you can sell it. If you're comfortable, of course."
Stacy blinked. "Tickled? Like... actually tickled?"
"Yes," Miles said with a small chuckle. "But only if you're okay with it. We have an assistant, Alex, who will do the tickling. My focus will be entirely on your performance and reactions."
She hesitated briefly, her hands fidgeting with the hem of her jacket. "Well, I mean, I'm super ticklish, but... it's all in good fun, right?"
Miles nodded reassuringly. "Totally. Just react naturally, let yourself have fun with it. No pressure."
After a moment, Stacy sighed, smiled, and gave a small shrug. "Alright. Let's do it." She said. "I really want this role." She thought to herself.
A few minutes later, Stacy sat on a short stool, her flats discarded to reveal her bare feet propped up on a cushioned bench. Alex, the assistant, knelt nearby with an impish grin, wiggling his fingers in mock anticipation. Before they began, Miles handed Stacy a feather boa.
"Here, wear this. It's a prop for the scene. Adds a bit of flair," Miles said with a grin.
Stacy draped the soft white boa over her shoulders, already feeling giggly from the absurdity of the situation. "Oh boy... I feel ridiculous already."
"You ready?" Alex asked, flashing a playful smile.
Stacy wiggled her toes nervously and grinned. "As ready as I'll ever be. Just... be gentle!"
"Action!" Miles called from behind the camera.
Alex started lightly, his fingertips grazing the soles of Stacy's feet in a gentle, feather-like motion.
Stacy flinched instantly, her shoulders tensing as a squeak escaped her lips. "Oh myâhaâokay! Wow!"
"Where are the diamonds, lady?" Alex said in an exaggerated villain voice, his fingers dancing along her arches.
"I... I'm not telling... pffft.... HAHA!" Stacy burst into laughter, her head tilting back as her composure cracked.
"Your character's supposed to resist!" Miles chimed in, but he was already chuckling at her inability to keep a straight face.
"I'm... trying... haha... I can't!" Stacy cried, tears forming at the corners of her eyes as Alex's fingers explored the sensitive spots under her toes.
"C'mon, lady! Where are the diamonds?" Alex pressed, still using his best villain voice. He was now lightly scratching at the center of her soles.
Stacy's head fell forward, her hands gripping her knees as her laughter became uncontrollable. "They're... they're in the... hahaha... I can't even talk!"
Alex paused for a moment, allowing Stacy to catch her breath. Then, with a mischievous grin, he reached up and plucked a single soft feather from the boa around her neck.
"Oh no," Stacy said, her eyes wide. "Not the feather! Come on, Alex!"
"Start singing, little lady! Where are the diamonds?" Alex questioned again, now delicately running the feather along the arch of her left sole.
Stacy's laughter hit another level as she kicked her head back, her shoulders shaking with giggles. "THAT'S NOT FAIR! Hahaha.... okay, okay... this is torture!"
The feather glided up and down her sole, dipping between her toes as Stacy's laughter bubbled over uncontrollably. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she barely managed to breathe.
Miles was practically in stitches behind the camera. "Stacy, your reactions are perfect. This is gold!"
Finally, Alex relented, holding the feather up triumphantly as Stacy collapsed forward, wiping her face with the boa.
"You okay?" Alex asked, holding up his hands in surrender.
Stacy nodded, her face flushed but beaming with laughter. "Yeah, yeah, I'm okay. Wow, I didn't realize I'd break that fast!"
Miles applauded lightly. "Stacy, that was fantastic. Your reactions were so genuine. That's exactly the energy we're looking for in this scene."
Stacy grinned, still slightly breathless. "Well, if you need someone to laugh on command... I think I've got you covered!"
Everyone shared a laugh as Stacy slipped her flats back on, feeling a wave of relief and excitement wash over her.
Later that Day...
As Stacy sat in the living room of her apartment, her phone buzzed with an email notification. She opened it and gasped.
Subject: Congratulations!
Hi Stacy! You've landed the role. We can't wait to see you bring this sceneâand so many othersâto life. Congrats!!
"Yes!" Stacy said to herself. She pumped her fist in victory and her laughter from the audition still echoed faintly in her mind.
