Chapter 51: After Battle

Glynne was blankly staring at the ceiling that he had grown familiar now. Well, this is actually just his third time which is not a lot if one would think about it, but for him, he has mixed feeling after the fact that he was always sent in this room after most of the battle inside the school grounds.

"How long was I unconscious?" he asked not to himself, but to the maid who was sitting beside his bed.

"About an hour or so," Rita replied as she is carefully peeling an orange.

Glynne furrowed his brows why the maid was here since she is one of the examiners. When he shifted his sights on the monitor that was attached from the wall, he could see the exam was still ongoing. However that was when he noticed something amissed.

The room was silent. Due to many being injured by the exam, the infirmary was supposed to be busy and yet, he can't hear a single any voices or even simple footsteps.

He closed his eyes and concentrated a bit. His hunch was correct, he could feel the presence of multiple people inside the room. This only means one thing, Rita has erected an invisible soundproof barrier.

"....." Glynne's brow twitches as he felt something cold poking his cheeks. He just silently opened his mouth, letting the sweet fruit enter.

Seeing the boy being obedient for a bit, Rita flashed a satisfied smile. Offering another orange slice, she feed him until all of it are gone.

"Are you happy now?" Glynne said was while glaring at the maid.

Rita smiled and replied with a simple, "Yes".

The boy let out a sigh and scratched the back of his head. He is asking himself why he was letting the maid pamper him. It isn't like he hate it or anything but he just doesn't know the reason she keep on doing it whenever possible. He noticed that she was about to peel another one and quickly tries to stop her. "Isn't about time you tell me your purpose for visiting me?"

"Oh, impatient, aren't you? I would not mind if we continue just a bit longer " Rita said as she still continues peeling the orange.

Glynne smiled wryly, it would go on forever if continues on. "You know, we could talk over it while your feeding me."

Rita raise her head and look into the boy's eyes as if she was asking if he is serious. His words are basically him saying that he gave his permission to spoil him. Not that it was a problem but whenever she tries to do so, there would always be a little resistance.

"What?" the boy in question raise his eyebrow.

"Nothing," Rita answered and finished removing the fruit's skin. She pick up a slice and reach it over the boy in which he ate. "Right, I guessed I should start talking now."

Glynne just silently chewing on the fruit as he watch Rita fixes her clothes and clears her throat.

"Glynne, you got a bit overboard." Rita declared.

"What do you mean?" the boy swallowed the food and tilted his head to the side, confused by her words.

"First of all, let me clear some misunderstanding. The goal of this exam was not to beat the emperor level honkai beast, but to see how good you deal with it." a loud audible gulp can be heard as the boy look at Rita with wide eyes.

"W-wait, then that mean that I did all that for nothing?" Glynne's voice were trembling as he held his head. "Ah! Why didn't you tell me sooner!?"

"It's more fun that way." the boy jerk his head and glare at Rita who giggled. She was not faze by it and still continues to try to feed him. "Oh, your efforts was not for a naught though. You see, the other judges planned to fail you due to your recklessness. However your team manage defeat the honkai beast thus overturning that decision."

"Eh?" Glynne was dumbfounded for while as he tries to process her words. One thing for sure though is that he clearly messed up.

Seeing the boy curling up while groaning in regret, Rita covered her mouth with her hand as her lips curved up in amusement. With her already has her fill, she decided to move the topic.

She brought out something that was heavily covered in clothes as she presented it the boy, in which he accepted while tilting his head.

"Wait, these are?!" when Glynne uncovered it, he was shocked as it were two pair of pistol with one black and the other with silver color. It was no doubt his weapons but for some reason it has undergone some kind of customization as it looks like some parts are added and its overall designs became sleeker.

The honkai particles in the air begun to tremble but when he picked it up, they seems to have calm down. He felt some sort of connection to it, he can't really exactly tell the feeling but he feels like it was a part of his body. It was then that he noticed it that not only does it appearance change but the overall structure and material of the weapon. "How... How did this happen?"

"I was about to ask the same question?" seems like Rita was also clueless as of why. That said, it isn't like she has her suspicion. "Do you think it something to do with the black smoke that was surrounding you during the battle?"

"I don't know.." Glynne just replied as his eyes are shining looking at the weapon. "To be honest, I never used that power just until recently."

"Oh?" Rita narrowed her eyes as she found out something big. If what the boy said was true then it could only point to one thing; the incident before he was taken by Schicksal.

She was about to asked about it but stopped as she noticed his sparkling face while observing the guns. Glynne barely show his childish side as this has quickly reminded her that he is still young. She doesn't want to disturb this moment as she just smiles watching him.

"By the way, what about my battlesuit?" Glynne quickly asked and look at the maid expecting eyes.

Rita let out a giggle seeing this but unfortunately, she needed to spoil his mood a bit. "It also have undergone material change. However, I will be confiscating it."

"Eh? Why!?" Glynne felt betrayed by the news as his shoulder slumped. "...You will sent it as a research material, right?"

"Yes, however you are half correct." Rita said as the boy look at her with a curious face. "You know, I noticed it for a while now but you are using your battlesuit in a wrong way. Your suit was made for long range engagement. However, you have been using it for close range combat like in our spar and the recent fight. Honestly, I was quite surprised it held out this long and not break while you are using it."

"Ah" Glynne didn't have any words for rebuttal. He just held his head down, feeling a bit guilty. "I can still get it back, right?"

"Yes," Rita nodded as she continued to feed Glynne another slice of fruit. "But like you said, it will put into research so you might not get it back during the summer vacation."

"It twat so... " Glynne tried to talk while eating. He then swallowed it down and begun to get up.

"Hm? What are you doing?" Rita asked as she was curious as of why is he trying to get out of he bed despite still recovering.

"Isn't obvious?" Glynne said with starry eyes as he showed his weapons. "I'm going to test these."

Rita only replied with a smile. However the boy felt a chill run down his spine when he noticed her eyes doesn't seem to reflect it at all. She slowly approached him and put her hand on his shoulders.

"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!" Glynne let out a cry as he was forcibly laid back down on the bed.

Rita was a excellent maid, as such she was a skilled in many things. One of them is massaging by the pressure points. And with this knowledge, she was able to inflict pain on the boy by just pressing a a specific spot on his body. "You need to rest your body first. For the time being, I will be keeping these so you wouldn't get any weird idea." she warned.

"Ah, w-wait!" Glynne tried reaching it his hands but failed to grab his pistols as the maid quickly pulled them away. She then brought out a device from her pockets and press it. The boy soon notice various noises coming in.

"Now, just behave alright. You will have visitors later on." Rita said and flicked his forehead. He just silently glared at her as he watched her walked out through the curtains.

"Glynne" Bronya called out his name as soon as she opened the curtains of his ward. He was startled and quickly look over her way. The girl then jump and dive into him as the boy skillfully catches her into his embrace so that both of them wouldn't get hurt by the impact.

"Geez Bronya, please be careful." Glynne tried scolding the girl but it seems to fall into deaf ears. She just rub her face in his chest, acting like a small cute animal. He just let out a sigh and patted her head.

"Are you feeling better now?" the next one to enter was Fu Hua who was holding a paper on her hand. She move next to him and begun observing his body.

"Yeah, aside from some sore spots, I feel great." Glynne tries to stretch his arms to show off.

"Looks like you're saying the truth." Fu Hua stood up as she finishes the examination and fixes her glasses. "Hm, I noticed it before but your natural regenerative abilities are quite fast."

Glynne just laughed nervously at her words. He didn't really mention them about his strengthened regeneration. Though that isn't big of a secret but he don't see any reason to tell it.

Hearing the curtain being pushed aside again, he look over and see the Mei entering in. She quickly scan the room as her eyes landed on the boy.

"Ah, you're awake." He just stared at her as she slowly approached his side while rubbing her arm. "Uhm.., thank you for saving me a while ago."

"No worries. I was only knocked out, that's all." he said as he showed them a smile. However his brows started twitching as the girl on his arms are pinching his sides.

Getting knocked out, especially when it come from getting hit by a honkai beast that is like the size of a truck, was nothing to laugh at. It was fortunate that he only got minor external injuries, but Glynne was only able to move after it was because of his regenerative abilities and a bit of adrenaline to numb the pain.

However, he can't really tell this to them as it would just make them worry. He decided to quickly change topic so that they won't pry further. "By the way, where's Kiana?"

""Kiana?"" the first two that came here had a question mark appear on top of their head and look around the room. It was weird as she is usually with Mei, but no matter how much time pass she seems to be not coming over.

The dark haired girl saw this and let out a bitter laugher. "Seems like she wanted to talk with Principal so we separated along the way."

The match has just finished and the judges decided to have a quick break. However upon going out the room, Theresa was surprised to see her niece waiting in front of the door. "Kiana, what are you doing here?"

"Uhm.., I wanted to talk to you about something." she replied while hanging her head down

She noticed how the girl seems to be down despite being in the only team that manage to subjugate the emperor level honkai beast. It isn't like she has no clue the reason why though. Signalling the other to go on ahead, she invited her niece inside to have some private talk.

"It's about Glynne, isn't?" Theresa quickly got to the point as soon as she closed the doors behind them. Kiana just silently nodded. Letting out a sigh while rubbing her head, she got close to her niece and offer her a seat. "I know what you are thinking. I have gone into a few missions with your parents thus I can say that I am very familiar when it comes to them. To be honest, I was about to go ask him after this."

"... Please don't," she was surprised when Kiana tries to stop her. The girl then grab her hand and showed a determined look in her eyes.

"You have a plan, do you?" the principal asked as her niece nod in response. She furrowed her eyebrows and look into her eyes. "...Can I trust you with it?"

There was a small pause before Kiana said, "Yes". The principal stared at her for a while before she let out a sigh of defeat.

That time when Glynne talk about something of his past, there was a sad look on his face. Knowing her Aunt, she will try to directly ask him about it, that is why she came here to stop her. One week, that is all that she needed. Kiana will make sure that she will get her questions answered at that time.
