Ashley was filled with regret. âI was just anxious and worried that if I entrusted this task to someone else, it might not be done well, so I took matters into my own hands,â Ashley admitted in a rush. âTavon, what do we do now? You have to think of something.â
Ashley was scared, and he knew it.
Tavon was aware of Ashleyâs plot against Anastasia, but he hadnât expected such a foolish tactic.
âAnastasia hasnât taken any action so far, and the police havenât shown up yet. It means she hasnât reported anything, so thereâs still a chance to turn this situation around,â
Tavon analyzed. âEven if you hand over the evidence to the authorities, the Morton familyâs influence would protect you. Plus, Anastasia shares our blood. No matter what, sheâs family. She wouldnât turn you into the police. However, this does mean she now has leverage over you.â
Ashley let out a sigh of relief at the thought that Anastasia might not report her to the police. But soon after, she snapped bitterly, âThat cunning girl, she wouldnât be thinking of blackmailing us, would she?â
âThatâs not entirely impossible.â Tavon replied, puffing on his cigar. âAnastasia is very cunning. Your failure today proves sheâs been suspicious of us and has been on guard. Smart girl.â
âYouâre even praising her now,â Ashley seethed. âI knew that conniving girl wasnât as simple as she seemed. She dreams of getting a third of the Morton family fortune. In her dreams.â
âNow that weâve shown our true colors, the chances of her donating bone marrow to Sandy have vanished,â Tavon mused. âWeâll have to come up with another plan.â
âWeâve been waiting for so long, and we still havenât found a suitable bone marrow match. Do you actually expect to use our sonâs bone marrow to save Sandy? Thatâs absolutely out of the question.â
Ashley retorted in panic.
âOf course we canât use Seanâsâ Tavon agreed. âSean is my only son. I wouldnât risk his health to save our daughter.â
Tavon was a the kind of man who valued sons over daughters. He could love his daughter, but his son was undoubtedly more important. Only a son would be able to carry on the family business and take the Morton family to the next level.
Ashley was at a loss. âWhat do we do now? We canât just let Sandy die.â
âCalm down. Itâs not over yet,â Tavon said, puffing on his cigar. âIf only Anastasia were a son. Iâd seriously consider accepting her into the family.â
Regret laced Tavonâs voice. Anastasia was clever, meticulous, and cunning. She was indeed so much better than Sean.
Sean didnât have the habits of a spoiled child, but his abilities were just average. He wasnât cut out for business. However, if the company had Anastasiaâs assistance, that changed everything. The company would remain in the Morton family, and Anastasia could work for them. After all, family was always better than outsiders.
Upon hearing this, Ashley flared up. âAre you gonna accept her? Tavon, we built this family together.
You cannot accept that cunning girl.â
âRelax, I was just thinking out loud. Go rest. Iâll make a call to confirm if Anastasia has reported usâ
Tavon said, placating Ashley, who was still somewhat worried that Anastasia might have reported them.
After Ashley left, Tavon truly considered the idea of accepting Anastasia into the family. Sandy was weak, Sean was mediocre, but Anastasia was smart and resourceful, the perfect material for business.
Tavon puffed on his cigar, contemplating how to tame Anastasia, make her accept him as her father, and work for the Morton family.
Compared to Sandyâs illness, Tavon was more concerned about the growth of the Morton familyâs business. Besides, Anastasia was beautiful, and beauty was a womanâs best weapon, making work more efficient. Tavon thought it over, deciding to work on convincing Salma. In his eyes, Salma was a foolish woman who could be easily swayed by sweet talk.
The next day, Anastasia woke up pondering how to maximize her benefit from the evidence she held.
Just then, the doorbell rang, and Anastasia went to answer it.
Flynn entered with breakfast in hand. âI brought you breakfast. I hope my service is satisfactory. I hope youâll put in a good word for me with my brother.â
âThanks, thatâs nice of you,â Anastasia replied, taking the breakfast from him.â
Flynn followed her inside, his gaze inadvertently landing on a pair of menâs trousers on the bed. His eyes widened in shock. At that moment, a manâs voice came from the bathroom, âDarling, can you bring me my clothes?â
Flynn didnât immediately recognize Hermanâs voice. His eyes darted between Anastasia and the bathroom in horror.
âAnastasiaâ¦â Flynn was on the verge of tears. Was his sister-in-law cheating on his brother? And she wasnât even trying to hide it? And he had to be the one to discover it?
What was he supposed to do? He couldnât just ignore it, but should he really talk to his older brother about it?
In a matter of seconds, Flynn had mentally played-out an entire soap opera scenario.
After giving the clothes to Herman, Anastasia returned to find Flynn looking troubled. âWhatâs wrong with you?â she asked.
