DERAGAN
Inside the ballroom was chaos.
Everyone murmured in surprise.
Though none of them strangers to magic.
As he turned his outstretched hand. Making the bits of glass knit back together, Nora watched him attentively. An arm still around his neck from dancing.
âYou did that?â She asked breathlessly.
âWe all knew sheâd go through.â Deraganâs gaze fell back to her. His hand landing on her arm to caress softly near her wrist.
âYou all planned this.â
âNot all of it.â Deragan smiled at her. âBut we know her well enough to predict her.â
âYou all do?â
âAll of us.â He chuckled. âImagine if you tried to escape me.â He leaned down to brush her nose teasingly with his.
Her eyes were huge. âYouâd go to such lengths to get me back?â
âOh,â His brow knitted, and he shook his head. Astounded sheâd ask. âfar greater.â
She blinked huge eyes up at him.
âSweetheart,â He breathed against her lips. âIâve sought you out lifetime after lifetime to spend as much time as possible with you. Single-mindedly wooing you back to me and wedding you over and over again. Iâd say thatâs great lengths to go for one woman.â
Her brows lifted. Moving in step with him to the dance. âYouâre right. I guess Iâve never thought of it as such.â
âLook at them.â Deragan pointed at the purple haired huntress who currently had Teverius by the collar. Pointing to the repaired glass window above and then looking at him with huge eyes. Talking animatedly as she gestured back and forth.
Teverius looked strained. Nodding slowly.
âWhat are they saying?â Nora leaned close to ask. âIs she upset?â
âNo. She sounds impressed. Sheâs telling him sheâs never seen anything like that and wants to know what she is. Teverius just told her he doesnât know what she is. Oh,â Deragan looked away. Averting his attention back to Nora.â
âWhat?â Nora blinked quickly. Awash with curiosity.
âI think sheâs now trying to seduce him.â
âOh!â
They danced a moment longer before Nora whispered to him. âLook at Acharius!â
Deragan obeyed.
âHeâs looking at her like sheâs something majestic.â
Acharius was indeed smiling down at the redheaded woman, Chastain, as though prepared to set her upon a pedestal and worship her.
âDo you know,â Deragan confided. âhe only sees in black and white, except when around her?â
âWhat?â Nora shook her head in disbelief. âThis is such a different world. This is you and them. How you live?â
âYes.â Deragan nodded guiltily.
âYour packâ¦â
âMy pack.â
âSomeone else is here.â He pointed to Lucien Sabias. And beyond him was the glowering face of Meralee Carter.
âMera!â Nora cried. Rushing across the Ballroom and nearly barreling over Meralee who caught her up in a startled hug.
âNora!â
âIâve missed you. I kept trying to send you word I was at Rosewynn Manor.â
âI wasâ¦â
Deragan gave her a staying glance over Noraâs shoulder. His face dark with warning.
âOtherwise engaged.â Mera finished.
Thank you. He gave her an appreciative nod.
Her lip curled. Itâll be a while before she forgives me.
Mera caught Lucien by the upper arm and drug him over to the conversation. âOn the Isle of Wight.â
âThe Isle?â Nora gasped. âIâve never been! I hear itâs beautiful.â
âIt can be.â Mera nodded. âRight Lucien?â
He cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably.
Sheâs trying to disconcert us all for kidnapping her.
Itâs working.
