twenty seven

I tossed and turned in bed. My mind kept going; I looked at the time and saw it was 4 Am. E dropped me off at my house before she went to feed, I was tired, but I couldn't sleep. I got up and grabbed my sleeping pills, popping two in my mouth; as I chewed them up, I threw in two more. I needed sleep; I needed my brain to turn off. I lay on my couch and turned on the TV; I flicked through the channels and decided to watch criminal minds.

I woke feeling like I was being watched; I jumped to see E sitting on the coffee table; she slowly turned to the TV. "How long have you been here?" I asked.

"Uh, twenty minutes, I guess."

"Do you feel better?" I asked, and she nodded. "What's wrong?"

"There's a vampire here."

"Here?"

"Somewhere in town. That's what drained me."

"How do you know?" I asked, reaching out and taking her hand in mine.

"I just know..."

"Who is it?"

"I don't know." She sighed. "They aren't my breed, and I need to find who they are, though."

"Are they here... after you?"

"I think, viv." She mumbled. I leaned over to turn on the light, but she took my hand in hers. She sat beside me and pulled me onto her lap, I kissed her lightly, and she tasted like peppermint toothpaste. She kissed me back and held me tightly, I looked into her eyes, and she sighed. I started to drift to sleep when I heard her mumble something under her breath. "I can't wait to kill you."

"I knew it was going to happen like this."

"I'm glad it did." I heard, but I was yet to see anyone. This is a dream, isn't it? I want to wake up.

"Please kiss me," E said.

"You want a kiss at her funeral?" The lights came up like at a concert. Joy was smiling.

"She was my soulmate. But you were the real thing, come here." E pulled Joy to her tightly and kissed her neck.

"You're going to turn me tonight, right?" Joy asked.

"Of course, I want you forever." E smiled, showing her teeth.

"She really believed there was a queen?" Joy giggled.

"Let's not talk about her anymore. We have each other. That's all I want."

"I even had to sleep with Cece. You owe me."

"I can think of ways to make it up to you." E said, slowly wrapping her hand around joys throat, making her smile.

"No!" I screamed as my eyes tore open.

"Vivian, are you ok?" Es voice startled me. I looked towards her and held my chest.

"Are you doing this?" I asked.

"Doing what? I just got here- I'll I could hear in my head was you saying you want to wake up." I rolled my eyes.

"I was asleep on your chest." I said.

"You must have been dreaming Vivian; I promise you I just got here. Long enough to wake you up." I looked around, and it was daylight now.

"Wa... no... E, you were here." I started to cry.

"What's wrong?" She asked, sitting on the coffee table and leaning towards me, putting her hands on my knees.

"I... you kissed me- you said there's a vampire here after you and..." I shook my head.

"Calm down Vivian. I promise it's just a dream, ok?" I looked away from her and pulled my eyebrows together. Am I going crazy? Is she making me crazy?
