"I'm sorry for talking to you l-"

"No." I cut her off speaking for the first time since I got in her car about fifteen minutes ago. "No, I've been talked to like that by almost everyone in my life, and it didn't hurt as much as when you did it."

"I'm sorry, Viv, I just... needed you to be scared for me so you'd listen. I know how you react to-"

"How the fuck do you think you know all this shit about me?" I snapped.

"The same way I knew you thought Cece saved you." She said. I looked over at her and caught glimpses of her face from the glow of the street lights.

"I'm so confused, Emma."

"No, your not. Your smart; you believe in this bullshit. You always have."

"Believe in what?" I asked.

"Think about it." She said. "It was your first thought about me, of course sarcastically, though."

"About what?" I asked. My mind raced; what the hell is she trying to tell me? She can't read minds-

"Yes." I jumped.

"Yes, what?" I asked. I can picture cece on the first 48 or some other show, she'll be the beautiful friend who demands justice for her younger friend gone before her time.

"Stop being so over dramatic I'm not going to kill you."

"E, you're fucking scaring me."

"Good, I need to tell you some stuff."

"First, you need to tell me how you know what I'm thinking. You can't read minds."

"Says who?" She asked. "How'd I know you were thinking I'm going to kill you?"

"Pretty sure anyone in my position would be thinking that right now." I nodded.

"Viv." She sighed.

"Ok, if you can read minds, what am I thinking about?" I asked. What would she never guess? Highland cows... in little bandanas.

"I- nothing you're a fucking empath you know how to put up a mental shield. You learned it young to keep yourself sane in your parent's divorce."

"How... how'd you know..."

"Take down the shield, and I'll tell you what your thinking." I think I'm losing my mind. "You're not losing your mind."

"Stop that!" I yelled.

"Vivian-"

"No, I want to go home."

"We need to get to-"

"No, no we need to do nothing. You need to pull over and I'm getting a Uber home."

"Can you let me explain, please." She said, and I started to cry. "Viv, stop crying." She reached out to touch me, and I pulled away. "I have been looking for you for 37 years, ok i-"

"Listen, you have the wrong person; I'm only 19."

"I know-" she told me she was 27. Or did she say 37... "I said 27, because right now I am."

"E." I sobbed. "I want to go home." I pulled out my phone, and it left my hand flying into the back seat. I looked over at her, breathing heavily. "Emma."

"Close your eyes for a second." For some dumb reason, I listened.

When I opened my eyes, more than twenty minutes had passed. Did she drug me? "I didn't drug you. I just put you to sleep."

"Where are we?" We were in a forest. A beautiful green lush forest, in front of us was a small cottage core Pinterest style house.

"This is my house."

"I thought you lived near the city."

"I have an apartment there, but this is where I live."

"You better have a good fucking explanation for all this."

"You hungry?" She asked as we walked in the house, she kicked off her shoes, but I kept mine on in case I needed to run.

"Emma fucking start talking."

She sat down on the coffee table, and I sat on the couch. "Ok... how do I say this..."

"With words." I snapped.

"A few years before you were born, in 1985-"

"18 years before I was born is not just before."

"I was born in 1661; to me, it's a few years. In 1985 I found an old book that belonged to some in my family history, and it said that with the birth of the world's new age, the birth of my past... uh, person was going to happen."

"The birth of your person?" I asked.

"I need you to have an open mind, ok? You know what I am, and it'll be easier if you come to terms with it yourself." She ran her hands through her hair. She reads minds. Is a million years old- "360 years old, actually."

"Can you stop that?" I stood up and started to pace the room. "Just tell me."

"You already know. You've already thought it." She mumbled. "You've known about us for years." I had a million thoughts going through my head, fairys, wearhovles, vampires, the Easter bunny, Santa, abominable snowman. "There's no such thing as the Easter bunny." She rolled her eyes.
