Aluray and Murray were once business partners, with Murray being a key player in the Sinclair group. He could distrust anyone except Murray.
Zehrazed knew things were getting serious. Thalassa could no longer stay in the Sinclair group.
"Murray, contact HR and fire Thalassa straight away. Tell them itâs my decision," Zephyr planned to bypass Lysander and sack Thalassa directly.
"But what about Lysander?" Aluray was worried. What if Lysander disagreed with Thalassaâs dismissal?
Zephyr mulled it over, recalling Lysanderâs threat over the phone, warning him not to pull a stunt like this again.
If Lysander found out that he had sacked Thalassa, he would surely protest.
He thought of a way to let Lysander know. "If he asks, tell him Thalassa resigned because she found a better job."
So Murray brought Thalassaâs employment contract and briefed Zephyr about it.
Zephyr said, "Pay Thalassa ten thousand dollars as severance. Pay the company twenty thousand for the transition period. Iâll cover it."
He was willing to shell out thirty grand as long as it could get Thalassa out of the Sinclair group. Compared to freeing Lysander from the womanâs trouble and getting rid of an ambitious woman, thirty grand was chump change.
Aluray immediately carried out Zephyrâs instructions.
Thalassa was in her office, absentmindedly looking at Lysanderâs schedule. She wondered, "Did I not make myself clear enough? Or were the office rumors still swirling? Why had there been no news so far?"
Just as she was thinking about it, her phone rang. It was a call from the head of HR.
"Thalassa, pack your things and leave the company right now. You donât need to come back," the HR supervisor said.
She had been fired! Wasnât this what she wanted?
Thalassa asked, "Arenât you supposed to pay me severance?"
"Ten thousand dollars has been transferred to your account. Check it," the HR supervisor said and hung up.
Thalassa quickly checked her bank account on her phone. Sure enough, she had received ten thousand dollars!
It felt good to get paid. She no longer had to worry about being tied down by Lysander under the guise of being the boss. And whatâs more, she didnât have to worry about the kids being discovered by him.
Ah, the feeling of liberation. But amidst the joy, there was a tinge of disappointment. She had been deliberately ambitious, saying that she wanted to be Mrs. Sinclair. Based on Lysanderâs attitude, there were two possible outcomes.
If Lysander really wanted to take responsibility for her, he would have married her. If Lysander just wanted a fling and was just lusting after her young body, he would have been provoked by her words and fired her.
In the end, it was the latter. She was fired.
She wasnât wrong. Lysander never intended to marry her. He just wanted a fling.
Holding the road, she heard a voice.
Without looking up, she said, "Are you looking for the CEOâs secretary?"
An overbearing female voice, full of sarcasm and disdain, responded.
She tried to conceal the fact that Lysander was exactly the guy she had met five years ago.
"Itâs not like some people who take fat paychecks from the company while stabbing it in the back. This is a clear case of scapegoating, and I just..."
The voice accused Thalassa of setting up the situation and now playing the victim.
Sandra chimed in, "You might say you want to marry Lysander. If it wasnât for the fact that you saved Lysander with your act, he wouldnât have given you a second glance. He made you his secretary and even gave you perks. He just wants to flirt with you."
Thalassa felt humiliated, but she held her head high and put on an indifferent face. She gave Sandra a sarcastic smile, "Funny, because in Lysanderâs eyes, Iâm more valuable than you. He wouldnât even touch your book even if you threw yourself at him."
Then Thalassa turned around and left the room in her sneakers.
