Thalassa lowered her gaze to the pendant hanging around her neck, murmuring, âThis was a gift from Lysander. Leopold Sinclair said itâs worth tens of millions.â
When Lysander had presented her with the necklace, he warned her never to remove it, threatening heâd teach her a lesson if she ever did. So she was forced to keep it on, never daring to remove it even when taking a shower.
âWhat? Worth tens of millions?â Herthaâs eyes literally bulged out in shock; she stared at the necklace as if it was made of pure gold.
Hertha was filled with curiosity, looking like a small-town girl in a big city for the first time.
âThatâs so expensive! What kind of fine jewelry is it? Can I take a look?â Hertha asked, scooting closer to Thalassa.
âSure, here you go, Thalassa replied, reaching behind her neck to unclasp the necklace; her movements were awkward and clumsy due to her unfamiliarity with such jewelry.
Unable to contain her curiosity any longer, Hertha moved in to help Thalassa remove the necklace.
Once it was off, she held the necklace up to the light, letting the pendant dangle as she admired it.
Bathed in sunlight streaming through the window, the necklace sparkled brilliantly. The diamonds encrusted around the cloud-shaped pendant emitted a dazzling, radiant light. It was both blinding and sparking, a symbol of wealth and prestige.
âI can see how good the stuff is. Itâs nothing like a common gadget. My eyes are almost blinded by its brilliance, Hertha exclaimed, entranced by the necklace.
Thalassa chuckled, âSeriously? It feels just like any other common necklace to me.â
âHave you ever worn a common necklace?â Hertha asked her.
Thalassa shook her head.
âThatâs what I thought. Youâve been wearing high-end stuff from the get-go. You think all necklaces feel like this, but thatâs not the case. A necklace worth tens of millions is definitely different from an ordinary one,â Hertha explained, sounding quite knowledgeable.
Thalassa asked, âHow is it different?â
âHow is it different?â Hertha blinked; she didnât know the answer to this, âIâll take a look.â
She held up the necklace, examining it from all angles. Apart from its brilliance and superior texture, she couldnât find anything else that stood out.
âThe materials are different. They are more luxurious. The diamonds encrusted around this pendant alone are worth a fortune,â she concluded.
Thalassa pretended not to notice Herthaâs bluffing and nodded in agreement, âOh, I see.â
âHuh!â Hertha suddenly sounded surprised as if she had discovered something new.
âWhatâs wrong?â Thalassa asked.
âThereâs a bluish hue in the center of this cloud. What kind of high-tech is this?â Hertha asked, staring at the pendant in awe.
âYou must be seeing things.â Thalassa said.
âNo, Iâm not. Come over here and look from my angle,â Hertha insisted, pulling Thalassa closer and pointing at the pendant, âSee, isnât there a bluish hue where the sunlight passes through the center of the pendant?â
Thalassa looked closely at where Hertha was pointing. At first, she didnât notice anything, but after a moment of careful observation, she too noticed the blue light. It wasnât just the sunlight refracting off the diamonds, it seemed like the light was emanating from within the pendant itself.
The pendant was both radiant and mysterious.
Thalassaâs expression turned serious, âThis blue light doesnât seem to be just the refraction of the sunlight on the diamonds. Maybe something inside the pendant is emitting lightâ¦â
âExactly, otherwise the light wouldnât be so transparentâ¦â Hertha agreed, continuing to scrutinize the pendant.
