The email had barely been clicked open when the phone beside him buzzed incessantly.
It was an internal call.
Lysander picked up the receiver with one hand.
Thalassaâs voice, laced with tension and apprehension, echoed through the line, âMr. Sinclair, Amelia is here. She wants to see you.â
Just a moment ago, Thalassa had been fretting about how to prevent Lysander from reading that document.
Fortunately, the reception desk had called her with news that someone was looking for Mr. Sinclair.
The visitor claimed to be Leopoldâs mother.
Thalassa knew it was Amelia immediately.
After hanging up, she hastily dialed Lysanderâs number, stalling for time.
âHave her wait,â Lysander said, his voice commanding.
Just as he was about to hang up, Thalassa hurriedly added, âIt seems urgent, like she has an important matter to discuss.â
âIs it her whoâs in a hurry, or is it you?â Lysander asked, his deep, piercing voice chilling the line.
Thalassa hesitated. She was already so fraught and anxious. Now she felt more tightened..
Why would Lysander ask such a question?
Maybe he had already seen the document and understood her connections with the toy shop owner?
Maybe he realized she was the one who bought the circular pendant âtoyâ for Sophia?
Was he catching on to her?
Thalassaâs heart pounded wildly, and she had to exert all her strength to suppress the panic in her voice.
âIâm not in a hurry. Iâm just thinking Amelia might really have something urgent to discuss with you.â She stuttered.
âIs it about Leopold? Are you saying you wouldnât be worried about that man?â Lysanderâs voice, laced with a dangerous undertone, was oppressive.
Thalassa paused; then she realized that they were not on the same page.
In other words, Lysander hadnât looked at the investigation file yet.
âMr. Sinclair, to be honest, I donât know why Amelia wants to see you. If you donât want to see her now, I can call reception to ask her to leave,â Thalassa tried to sound as nonchalant as possible.
Just as she was about to hang up, Lysanderâs low voice echoed, âHave her come up.
His voice was filled with suppressed anger. He said that and then hung up.
Listening to the busy tone on the line, Thalassa felt a chill run down her spine. She was quickly reflecting on whether she had misspoken.
If she angered Lysander, there would be no good outcome for her.
Being by his side, she could always feel the Swords of Damocles over her head; her life was in ever-
lasting danger. The constant tension was exhausting.
But what could she do? There was no escape.
Thalassa headed to the elevator to wait for Amelia.
When Amelia stepped out from the elevator, she was dressed to the nines, decked out in designer labels from head to toe.
Upon seeing the person waiting to greet her, she paused, then sneered at Thalassa, âSo youâve taken this position.â
Thalassa ignored her mockery and made a gesture of invitation, âAmelia, this way please.â
Amelia was here to see Lysander and didnât plan to waste time with Thalassa. She shot Thalassa a cold glare and headed towards Lysanderâs office.
Thalassa followed her closely.
As Amelia and Thalassa entered Lysanderâs office, the room was filled with heavy, oppressive air.
