âMr. Sinclair, youâre back,â Faye greeted.
Lysander ignored her, heading for the couch, and asked Zephyr, âWhere are the kids?â
âI had the servants take them to my study to play,â Zephyr replied, his milky eyes shifting from Lysander to Thalassa standing behind him. His previously calm expression darkened instantly.
âI wouldnât have known you had four children if you hadnât bought that kindergarten out of the blue, Lysander. You didnât even bother to tell us. You werenât like this before. You used to care about how Grandma and I felt. Is it because of this woman?â Zephyrâs tone was serious, his gaze fierce and filled with annoyance, casting a stern glance at Thalassa behind Lysander.
Hearing such words, Thalassa felt uneasy.
It was clear that Zephyr had a bias against her.
Whatever Lysander chose to do, it was entirely his decision. What did it have to do with her?
She didnât have the power to influence Lysanderâs decisions.
Just as Thalassa was wrestling with her feelings, a warm hand suddenly held hers.
The hand was rough and warm, with calloused fingers.
Thalassaâs heart fluttered as she looked up into Lysanderâs deep eyes.
He held her hand, pulling her close to his side, meeting Zephyrâs gaze. âSince youâve done your research, you should know that she is the mother of the children. Theyâve grown to the age of four under her care alone, without any help from the Sinclair family.â
Lysanderâs voice was low and commanding.
And at that moment, it felt incredibly warm.
Thalassaâs eyes flickered, looking at Lysanderâs profile.
His words brought tears to her eyes.
He had never acknowledged her efforts towards the children before, yet, he was fully aware of it.
But now, he was defending her in front of Zephyr.
That unexpected warmth hit her hard, and Thalassa found herself feeling emotional.
Zephyr took a deep breath, his hawk-like eyes looking coldly at Thalassa. âLysander was injured in some combat and fell from a helicopter back then. How convenient that you were there in the locked woodshed!â
Zephyr was questioning Thalassa, suspecting her ulterior motives.
Earlier, Faye had told Zephyr about what happened five years prior, adding fuel to the fire by claiming that Lysander had been celibate and had rejected all the women Zephyr had arranged for him because he was still thinking of Thalassa.
Lysander initially thought Thalassa was dead and compensated her family with millions of dollars.
Later, Thalassa reappeared, bringing along four kids, hence binding her to Lysander for a lifetime.
It was a messy entanglement that couldnât be cut loose because there were children binding them together.
Zephyr immediately concluded that all of it was a ploy by Thalassa. It was all just to marry Lysander, to become Mrs. Sinclair, and to bask in wealth and glory.
She used the children as a bargaining chip, giving Lysander no reason to leave her.
That womanâs schemes ran deep!
Zephyr didnât believe that a woman who had embezzled a billion and run away could have any good intentions.
Thalassa felt wronged, her heart sinking.
Just as she was about to speak, Lysanderâs voice rang out, âI was the one who fell into the woodshed.
Luckily, she was there. Otherwise, let alone the children, I wouldnât have survived. Letâs be fair, Grandfather. Donât twist everything with your bias.â
Lysander was being factual.
Although Thalassa was Bruceâs daughter, and he despised her, he couldnât falsely accuse her of the events of five years prior.
You Zephyr was so angry that his beard trembled.
