She didnât want to see him back down because of this and give up on the venture he had so strenuously prepared to embark on.
âDo you think I should continue?â Leopold asked Thalassa. His eyes were serious and solemn as he sought her advice.
Thalassa nodded. âOf course. This is the beginning of your new life. Just as I hope you and Debby will have a happy future together.â
Leopold suddenly gripped her hand as his voice began to tremble with emotion. âThalassa, thereâs nothing between me and Debby. We just had dinner together.â
He had contemplated giving up on Thalassa so he could find someone else and start anew.
He had given Debby a chance, hoping that by spending time with her, he could forget Thalassa and that fall for Debby.
Even when he saw Thalassa having dinner with Lysander, he deliberately stayed close to Debby, trying to show Thalassa that he was capable of moving on.
But he found out that he couldnât.
He couldnât forget Thalassa. He couldnât let her go, and he definitely couldnât fall for Debby. He couldnât even pretend to do so.
Giving up on Thalassa was as painful as carving out his own heart.
But if he didnât give up, at least there would still be hope.
Thalassa felt his agitation and depth of feeling in his grip. Her heart nearly stopped as she quickly withdrew her hand from his, avoiding his gaze. âLeopold, donât do this. Debbyâs great, and you should cherish her. Iâm leaving.â
With that, she turned and walked away.
As she turned, a glimpse of a love bite on her neck was revealed under the movement of her skin.
Leopoldâs eyes stung at the sight, and his heart felt like it had broken into a thousand pieces.
His fists clenched, and his entire body trembled as his eyes reddened in sorrow.
âThalassa, where were you just now? I couldnât find you.â Betty asked in a low voice as she noticed Thalassaâs quickened pace.
Thalassa answered, âI went to the restroom.â
âOh, weâre about to have lunch soon. You should book a restaurant. Keep the receipt, so the company can reimburse you.â
âSure.â Thalassa turned and walked out of the factory.
She glanced back at the machine where Leopold had been, but he was no longer there. She scanned the entire factory but didnât see him anywhere.
He must have left.
Thalassa lowered her gaze and exited the factory.
She was living a new life now, so she sincerely hoped that Leopold could let go of the past and start anew.
That would be best for both of them.
If Lysander found out she had seen Leopold, he would be furious.
Lysanderâs anger was not something she or Leopold wanted to face.
She didnât want Lysander to destroy Leopoldâs new venture, nor did she want to see Lysanderâs terrifying cruelty towards her.
Thalassa booked a restaurant near the factory, and at noon, she, Ethan, the factory manager, and a few other responsible personnel had lunch.
Afterwards, Ethan took Thalassa and Betty back to the office.
In the afternoon, as Thalassa was about to report to Ethan in his office, a small figure suddenly burst from the office, crashing into her legs with a childish âOuch.â
