Lysander was working on the tail of a large Maine lobster, busily wrestling it from its shell, Thalassa paid him no mind, completely engrossed in her own meal.
In a short while, Lysander had extracted the succulent tail meat, dipped it in cocktail sauce, and placed it in her plate. âEat it fast, or it wonât be as tender,â he advised.
Thalassa looked at Lysander, astonished and taken aback.
He had shelled the lobster for HER.
She was about to thank him when she remembered that he seemed not to like hearing her say thanks, so she bit her tongue.
Then she began to eat the lobster while asking, âWhat were you doing with Charlotte in the room yesterday?â
Considering his energy level yesterday, it didnât seem like heâd been with another woman. But she had literally heard a womanâs moans from his room.
It made her blush even as a woman herself.
âJust getting back at her for you,â Lysander replied casually as he cut into his steak.
Thalassa looked at him, not understanding at first. But then it clicked. Charlotte had hired two men to violate her; Lysander had found out and was punishing Charlotte.
âSo what exactly happened in the room?â Thalassa inquired.
What did getting back at Charlotte have to do with the noises she had made?
âThe two men from before were there too,â Lysander replied as he sent a piece of steak into his mouth and chewed leisurely.
Thalassaâs eyes widened in surprise.
So Charlotte had made those noises because Lysander had let those two men have their way with her while he watched?
The thought sent a shiver down her spine.
Rich people really had their way around it. She thought.
âWhat are you thinking about?â Lysander asked, his voice soft but penetrating.
Thalassa quickly shook her head, âNothing. Iâm not thinking about anything.â
She returned to her lobster and dug in.
Her mind was spinning with thoughts about Lysanderâs ruthless tactics while eating.
After all, Charlotte was his fiancée. How could he bear to watch her be violated by other men?
However, Thalassa was grateful to him for standing up for her after learning about Charlotteâs kidnapping plan.
As she ate, she was formulating how to tell Lysander that Bruce was not her father and that there was no feud between them.â
In which case he didnât have to hate her.
âUmmâ¦â
âLeopoldâ¦â
Just as she had gathered her courage to tell Lysander the truth, he spoke up too. They both paused, and Thalassa said, âYou go first.â
âLeopold told me that he saw you being controlled by two men at the hotel when he and Debby were there. He went to the room to save you,â Lysander said, referring to a message Leopold had sent him.
Thatâs when he realized that the video Charlotte had sent was meant to drive a wedge between them.
She was the puppet master.
âRight, thatâs what happened. Iâve tried to explain it a few times, but you wouldnât give me a chance,â
Thalassa replied. She had tried to call him, but he didnât answer.
âThat doesnât make it okay for you to say you love him and canât get him!â Lysander snapped, his handsome face dark and tense with anger.
âYou should know your place!â He added.
âWhat is my place then? His aunt maybe?â Thalassa asked.
In your dreams, Lysander retorted with an aloof tone.
His words hit her like a bucket of ice-cold water. Thalassa asked, âIf Iâm not Bruceâs daughter, would you let me go or would you let me become Leopoldâs aunt?â
âEven if you arenât Bruceâs daughter, you will still just be mine. Donât you dare dream of marrying into the Sinclair family, got it?â Lysander stated clearly Thalassaâs hopeful heart sank into deeper abyss.
She felt as if she were being suffocated. Her hand holding the fork was jabbing at the lobster in her plate without rhythm. I understand⦠she thurmured.
