âLook Mommy, there are so many bubbles. Itâs so much fun!â Elowen, with her chubby cheeks, was covered in bubbles from the bath foam. Her little hands were busy popping the bubbles as her tiny lips blew them around.
âMe too, Mommy! Will you help me blow some bubbles?â Sophia asked as her face lit up with a carefree smile, which was something that rarely happened.
She too had a handful of bubbles, ready to be blown away. The two kids sat in the bathtub while splashing around with sheer delight.
Thalassa smiled at them; her eyes were filled with maternal love. She felt at peace when she was with her kids.
âSure, sweetheart, Mommy will help you blow the bubbles.â She leaned in pursing her lips, and blew away the bubbles from Sophiaâs hand..
The bubbles flew and landed on Elowenâs face, melting like snowflakes on her soft, childish skin.
âHa-ha-ha, itâs so much fun, Mommy. I want you to blow mine too!â Elowenâs laughter chimed like a bell.
Not caring about the bubbles that had landed on her face, she looked simply ecstatic.
Her little hands held a handful of bubbles and waited for Thalassa to blow them away.
Thalassa puckered up again, blowing away the bubbles from Elowenâs hands.
Elowenâs laughter became more joyous and sweeter. Sophia joined in the laughter too.
Fitch stood near the sofa in the living room and listened to the kidsâ laughter. His heart melted as he sighed, âWhile Lysander and Mrs. Everhart were away, the kids seemed so down and barely ate. But Mrs. Everhartâs return has brought life back into our home. It makes a difference when their mother is aroundâ¦â
Before he could finish, he felt a stern gaze upon him. He turned to find Lysanderâs deep eyes fixed on him.
Fitch straightened up immediately and quickly added, âOf course, their fatherâs presence is important too. The kids missed you as well and they need their fatherâs company.â
Lysanderâs gaze softened, and he turned his attention towards the bathroom.
Was that so? He thought.
He had arrived home almost at the same time as Thalassa, yet the kids only had eyes for their mother.
Not once had they called out for him. Perhaps it was because Thalassa had been with them more.
Those missing four years of companionship were not easy to make up for.
No one could replace Thalassa in the kidsâ hearts. She was really doing her job well as their mother.
Even when she had run away with her kids and caused Elowen to get hurt, she had immediately sought medical attention for her.
She could never escape from him as long as he had the kids under control.
After their bath, Thalassa played with the kids.
It was late, but the kids were not willing to go to bed. They wanted to stay with Thalassa.
âI want to sleep with you tonight, Mommy,â Elowen said softly as she held onto Thalassaâs arm and rubbed her cheek against it.
âMe too,â Sophia added, hugging her other arm.
âMe too,â Dorian said despite his shyness.
âAnd me,â Atticus added and lowered his head.
Even Atticus, the aloof boy, stowed his grimness away. Aloofness couldnât get him the maternal warmth he needed.
The kids had missed Thalassa so much in the past few days, and they were so dependent on her.
Thalassa felt a warm glow in her heart, âYouâre all grown up now; we canât all fit in one bed.â
âDadâs bed is big. We can sleep there; itâll be enough,â Elowen suggested.
âAnd what about your dad?â Thalassa asked, laughing.
âLetâs all sleep together!â Dorianâs suggestion shocked the room.
