The air outside felt so much fresher than that of the office. Thalassaâs taut nerves began to relax, and she noticed that her back had broken into sweat.
As she returned to the Crawley Group, Betty took the contract from her hands and flipped eagerly to the last page to see the signed name.
Bettyâs joy was evident in her sparkling eyes, âThalassa, thank you so much. Please thank your high-
level friend for me, too. If itâs possible, Iâd like to invite him for dinner tonight, my treat.â
Thalassa gave a noncommittal smile, âNo need, I donât have time tonight, and he doesnât either.â
She had only helped Betty because sheâd accepted her breakfast invitation that morning. She didnât want to owe her any more favors.
Thatâs why she definitely wouldnât be going to that dinner.
âAlright then, Iâll take you out when you have time. I need to deliver this to Mr. Ethan now.â Saying this, Betty left cheerfully with the contract in hand.
After work, Thalassa returned to her home in Vibrant Oasis Residences. She had initially planned to go to Royal Estates to spend time with the kids but remembered what she had told Lysander that morning about discussing their personal matters in the evening.
The thought of that conversation made her heart race. The way Lysander discussed personal matters was more than she could handle.
She was still recuperating. Another visit to Royal Estates might cost her half her life. She was truly afraid.
Best to avoid it for one more night. She thought.
As she was cooking dinner with her mother, Evelyn, Ethan called.
Thalassa, weâre having a company gathering at Half-Mountain Restaurant. Hurry up and join us,â
Ethanâs tone was light and friendly, in the demeanor of an easygoing boss.
âMr. Ethan, Iâm at home cooking dinner, so I wonât be able to join the gathering,â Thalassa declined.
She was already home, and dinner was almost ready.
âYou need to make an appearance so the colleagues can get to know you. Donât be a homebody,â
Ethan tried to persuade her.
âIâd ratherâ¦â Thalassa was about to decline again when she noticed Evelynâs significant looks which clearly indicated she should go.
Seeing Evelynâs eager expression, Thalassa changed her response, âAlright, Iâll be there soon.â
âGreat, weâre all waiting for you. Weâll start the meal when you arrive.â With that, Ethan hung up.
Thalassa pocketed her phone before turning to Evelyn, âMom, isnât it nice for me to stay home and have dinner with you?â
âWhy wouldnât you go to the company gathering? You might meet some eligible bachelors. There might be someone suitable. You never know. Once youâre married, Lysander canât bother you anymore,â
Evelyn advised.
Lysander had Thalassa all to himself without marrying her. Wasnât he just wasting her youth?
Evelyn didnât want Thalassa to be unmarried for her whole life and became all alone in her old age just like her.
Thalassa wanted to say that he wouldnât let her get close to other men with his possessiveness until Lysanderâs novelty for her wore off.
But she didnât want to upset Evelyn further so she could only soothe her mother.
âI guess itâs just you for dinner tonight, Mom. I wonât be joining you,â Thalassa said.
âGo ahead, I donât need your company,â Evelyn pushed her towards the door.
Thalassa swiveled her head to give her a resigned look and left.
Upon entering the bustling Half-Mountain Restaurant, Thalassa found it packed to the brim.
âThalassa, over here!â A warm voice called out to her.
