Every bit of her worth had been exploited by Ethan!
Still, she couldnât afford to cross him. If she did, she might never find work again.
After all, she had been fired by Lysander. Any company in Starhaven that knew about it wouldnât dare hire her.
Plus, the Crawley Group offered her a very high salary, and it was impossible for her to have such a high salary outside.
Hence, she had no choice but to continue slogging at the Crawley Group.
Thalassa hid her resentment towards Ethan. Flashing him a radiant smile, she said, âMr. Ethan, do you enjoy mixing personal grudges with work?â
âNot at all. I keep business strictly professional,â Ethan replied earnestly.
Grinding her teeth, Thalassa forced a smile. âAlright, Mr. Ethan. Iâm off to pick out the gift now.â
As she turned around, her smile faded, and she muttered under her breath, âEthan, you damn boss.
One day, Iâll fire you!â
Ethan watched her retreating figure, smirking. He knew she was cursing him. Ever since Thalassa joined the Crawley Group, his mundane office life had become much more interesting.
Thalassa and Ethan went to visit Leopold in the hospital after shopping.
Before they even entered the room, they could hear a womanâs distressed cries and reproaches.
âLeopold, my son, how did you get so hurt? Your scars from the last motorcycle accident havenât fully healed, and now youâre injured again. Why donât you take better care of yourself? What would I do if something happened to you?â
Amelia sat by Leopoldâs bed, tears streaming down her face. She held his uninjured hand, quivering with distress, yet being careful not to squeeze too hard.
âMom, donât cry. Iâm not dead,â Leopold said.
âShush! Donât say such unlucky things! Spit it out!â Amelia, pale with fright, spat several times as if to erase the word âdeadâ from Leopoldâs sentence.
When Ethan entered with Thalassa, he greeted him politely, âLeopold, how are you feeling?â
Lying on the bed, Leopold looked over at them. His eyes lit up with excitement and surprise when he saw Thalassa standing behind Ethan.
Thalassa noticed Leopold the moment she entered. His upper body was bare, bandages wrapped around his body and one arm, a brownish stain seeping through the white bandage on his chest. His other arm had an IV needle in it. But he seemed to be in good spirits. So it should be minor injuries, nothing serious.
Sitting by his bedside was Amelia, her face tear-streaked. On the other side of the bed was Zephyr; his temples flecked with more gray hair than before, looking much older and less energetic compared to when Grandma Sybil was alive.
âIâll be fine. Iâll be discharged in a few days,â Leopold responded to Ethanâs greeting, his eyes never leaving Thalassa.
âThatâs good to hear. Iâve had my secretary pick out a few things for you. I hope you like them,â Ethan replied, turning to Thalassa and signaling her to bring over the gifts.
His words were well-chosen, indicating that the gifts were from him but selected by Thalassa. Given Leopoldâs feelings for Thalassa, he was sure to like anything she chose.
Getting the hint, Thalassa quickly brought over the gifts and placed them by the bed. After she was done, she looked up and met Leopoldâs intense gaze.
Thalassa hesitated slightly before saying politely, âMr. Sinclair, make sure you rest and recover fully.
Thereâs no need to rush your discharge. If youâre not well, Mr. Ethan will be worried.â
