Lysander felt the soft, innocent kiss of the child on his cheek. It was a sweet sensation as if honey had been spread across his heart, a warmth spreading within him.
The sticky residue on his cheek did not matter.
âAlright, letâs clean you up, and then we can get going,â Lysander advised, placing Elowen down.
âOkay, Iâm going to wash up and visit Mom,â Elowen immediately stopped crying and cheerfully agreed, taking Fitchâs hand and letting him lead her to the bathroom to wash up.
Fitchâs emotions had been a roller coaster. From the tense moment when Lysander had first entered the room to the panic when Elowen smeared her runny nose on him, to the satisfaction and joy he now felt., Lysander truly was patient with the children. He did not get mad at their mischievousness or angry when Elöwen dirtied his clothes.
Fitch had never seen Lysander tolerate someone dirtying his clothes, let alone with a pleasant expression.
Fitch, holding Elowenâs hand, led her to wash up.
Meanwhile, Lysander went upstairs to clean himself up and change.
When he returned, the children were already sitting on the sofa. Four pairs of bright, innocent eyes were eagerly awaiting him.
They had transformed from being playful to being well-behaved.
âLetâs go,â Lysander said, leading them out.
The children hopped off the sofa one by one, following him like little ducklings.
Lysander drove the car himself, with Atticus in the passenger seat and the three little ones in the backseat.
The black Rolls Royce sliced through the neon night, heading towards the Vibrant Oasis Residences.
Fresh out of the shower, Thalassa was applying medication to Evelynâs face.
âMom, in the future, donât just let anyone in. Look at what theyâve done to your face,â Thalassa said, looking at the three scratch marks on Evelynâs face, deep enough to have drawn blood.
She could only imagine how much force the mother-daughter duo had used.
Her heart clenched at the thought of what could have happened if she had not returned home in time.
Her mother could have been beaten to death without anyoneâs help.
It was not only because of Bruceâs continuous deceit but also because Evelyn was so easily fooled.
Evelyn did not have to say anything for Thalassa to know that her mother must still have hopes for Bruce.
Why could she not let go of such a despicable, immoral, and scum of a man?
âI know. I wonât let anyone in anymore,â Evelyn replied, her pride stinging from being reprimanded by her daughter.
Thalassa knew her motherâs strong-willed nature and did not push the matter further.
As she was closing the medicine cabinet, there was a knock on the door.
âIâll get it.â Evelyn got up to answer.
Thalassa stopped her. âDidnât I just tell you not to open the door to anyone?â
Evelyn paused, realizing her lack of caution. âAlright, alright. You go.â
Thalassa walked to the door and cautiously asked, âWho is it?â
âMommy, itâs me, your little darling.â Elowenâs innocent voice came from the other side of the door.
Thalassaâs tension immediately melted away, replaced by a wave of joy. She quickly opened the door.
