Nursing her thumb, silent tears started to cascade down her cheeks.
âYouâre awake.â Lysanderâs voice, deep and somber, echoed through the darkness.
Thalassa shivered. She closed her eyes tightly, trying to force back the tears. But the intense sensation of sourness in her throat was uncontrollable.
âWhy did he fall from the building?â she managed to ask Lysander, her voice trembling.
The room fell silent, the air filled with a chilling stillness.
Just as Thalassa thought she wouldnât get an answer, Lysander spoke up, âNo one expected it. He jumped down himselfâ¦â
No one expected him to do this, and hence, nobody was prepared to stop him.
He jumped off himself?
Why?
Thalassaâs heart clenched, her body curling tighter.
Lysander sat at the edge of the bed, watching her. She was facing away from him, her body curled up into a ball. She didnât respond to his words. But under the moonlight, he could see the glitter of tears in her eyes.
He knew that she was in pain. She never forgot about Leopold, so his death brought her immense sorrow.
Lysanderâs handsome face was taut. He mused, and didnât say a word.
After a long silence, Thalassa found the courage to voice her worries, âHow is he now?â
âHe is in the morgue and undergoing a postâmortem makeover,â Lysanderâs voice was solemn while answering her question.
Thalassaâs heart clenched again, her thumb almost bitten through by her own teeth.
âYou should get up and eat something. Youâve been asleep for six hours,â Lysander said as he switched on the light.
The bright, white light instantly illuminated the whole room.
Thalassa shut her eyes against the glaring light. Before she could adjust to the sudden brightness, Lysander scooped her up from the bed.
Thalassaâs entire body was soft, limp and powerless. She was picked up by Lysander and helped to sit at the head of the bed.
A tray had already been prepared on the bedside table. On it was a bowl of soup and an almond pudding, which were both mild dishes. Lysander tucked away the stray hair from her forehead, revealing her pale face; her lips were devoid of color.
Lysanderâs deep eyes flickered as he scooped up soup and brought it to her lips.
Thalassa turned away, not wanting to eat.
She had no appetite. Her taste buds were numb from the chilling sorrow. She didnât have the heart to eat anything.
Lysanderâs outstretched spoon hung in midâair as his expression turned grim, âEat up!â
Thalassa felt a wave of inner pain. She flinched and looked away from him.
I donât want to eat, she said without any energy.
âAs four kidsâ mother, youâre not alone. Are you sure you want to be so selfâwilled?â Lysanderâs voice was hoarse, his handsome face Laut.
Tears welled up in Thalassaâs melancholic eyes.
She leaned on her arms for support, sitting up a bit straighter. She turned to look at Lysander, âAre the kids asleep?
She was a mother of four Her kids needed her. If she fell, her kids would be so heartbroken and pitiful.
Everything sheâd done up until now was for the purpose of being with her kids.
Lysanders stern expression softened a little when she asked about the kids.
At least She still cared and still worried about the kids.
sleep they wanted to see you earlier but I persuaded them to go to bed. Lysander said.
