But Lysanderâs deep-set eyes were always fixated on Thalassa.
Even though Thalassa never looked his way, she could feel the depth of Lysanderâs scrutinizing gaze.
It felt as solid and cold as a chunk of ice, causing her to involuntarily shiver.
Recently, Thalassa had been wrestling with the question of why Lysander had driven Leopold to his death. She pondered the question for a long time but couldnât find any answers.
She yearned to see her children, but she didnât have the courage to contact Lysander.
She thought that after her confession of wanting to leave him, and since Lysander was still upset with her, he wouldnât bother with her anymore.
Unexpectedly, he made an appearance at the banquet and even helped her out of a huge mess.
If not for his insistence on checking the surveillance footage, she would have found it hard to prove her innocence. Checking surveillance footage on her own was nearly impossible.
After all, the surveillance footage from such an event captured the private moments of influential businessmen, not something easily accessible to just anyone.
For his help, Thalassa was grateful.
However, she wondered why Lysander helped her. He had no intention of marrying her or even acknowledging her as her girlfriend.
His control and possession of her were driven by resentment and a strong possessive desire.
If he resented her, then why did he help her?
Lysander had always been enigmatic and unreadable, his thoughts forever elusive to her.
âMummy, this bunny cupcake is so yummy. Itâs so sweet! You should try it! Itâs really good,â Elowenâs cheerful voice interrupted her thoughts.
Thalassa glanced over to see Elowen holding up a fork with a fluffy bunny-shaped cupcake skewered onto it.
She stretched out her hand, offering the cupcake to Thalassa with her big, innocent eyes sparkling with excitement.
Thalassaâs tense nerves relaxed and she smiled at Elowen. âAlright, let me have a try.â
She opened her mouth and bit into the small bunny cupcake.
With a bite, she could taste the soft texture and milky sweetness of the cupcake.
âMm, itâs really good, Elowen. Thank you, sweetheart,â Thalassa praised, giving Elowen a thumbs-up.
âMummy, I recognized that the bracelet was genuine right away. Am I amazing?â Sophia, not wanting to be left out, eagerly sought praise.
Thalassa gently ruffled her hair and smiled. âYes, Sophia. You were amazing. Everyone was so impressed; they couldnât believe how smart you are.â
Sophia giggled, revealing her adorable dimples as she smiled broadly.
Having received their motherâs praise, Elowen and Sophia happily continued munching on their food.
Dorian and Atticus, who had been quiet, were busy eating their food, clearly hungry.
After calming the children, Thalassa looked around the hall again. Lysander had left, and she couldnât spot him anywhere. Zephyr was also not in sight.
As Thalassa was looking around, Amelia suddenly shot her a venomous glare. The look was even more piercing than it had been at the start of the banquet.
Thalassa felt a chill run down her spine as she met Ameliaâs icy stare. Her brows furrowed in apprehension.
âEnough! Stop causing trouble. Grandfather didnât call you out earlier to save dignity for you. Donât take his kindness for granted!â Ameliaâs husband, Payton, noticing Ameliaâs hostile gaze towards Thalassa, pulled her close and whispered a stern warning.
