"Did you apologize to her?" Mahesh asked with his arms crossed across his chest as soon as he saw Virendra entering the room.
"Yes," Virendra replied as he took his seat on the couch.
"What did she say?" Mahesh's face beamed with excitement as he gazed at his friend with eyes full of expectations.
"She was sleeping," Virendra replied in a nonchalant way.
"What!?" Mahesh's jaws slacked upon listening to Virendra's words. "You apologized to her when she is sleeping!? Virendra! I didn't ask you to apologize to her in her sleep."
"You just asked me to apologize to her and I did it," Virendra said as if he didn't commit any mistake.
Mahesh let out a deep breath while putting his palm on his face hopelessly. "Virendra..." He said before looking at his friend. "You know what, you are the most clueless person I have ever seen. Who apologizes when someone sleeps? Does that apology even come into count?"
"Does this mean she won't forgive me?" Virendra averted his gaze to his friend while looking at him with hope in his eyes.
"No!" Mahesh huffed. "You need to apologize to her properly." He let out a deep sigh and sat beside his friend. "Virendra, she is your wife. So it's not wrong to apologize to her."
"Alright. I will try to apologize to her tomorrow." Virendra nodded remorsefully. Why did I yell at her in the first place? Now, why is it so hard for me to ask for forgiveness? God! What's happening to me!?
"Jyoti, I am telling you, never ever marry a royal, alright?" Lavanya said in a despairing tone while putting on her golden bangles.
"Why sister?" Jyoti uttered while trying hard to control her laughter as Lavanya was complaining to her since morning about the royal way of living.
"You are asking me why!?" Lavanya turned her face sideways to face Jyoti while looking at her with disbelief in her eyes. "Cannot you see how much I am struggling to wear this royal jewelry?" She let out a deep sigh before facing the mirror. "I generally wear a simple lehenga-vaani and simple necklace. But wearing this heavy saree with this heavy jewelry will choke me to death."
"You will get used to this, your highness." Jyotimani chuckled while ornating Lavanya's long braid with jewelry.
"When will these ritual things end?" Lavanya asked while putting on a highly designed golden ring on her index finger.
"Today's ritual is the last one," Jyoti replied while helping her princess to wear the necklaces.
"That's a relief." Lavanya smiled a bit while putting on the golden waistband around her waist.
"Princess, you look so beautiful." Jyotimani smiled after ornating Lavanya's braid with flowers.
Lavanya looked at herself in the mirror while a big smile formed on her face. She was wearing a pink silk saree in the dhoti style. While wearing the saree, Jyoti requested her a number of times to wear saree in a normal way but Lavanya insisted on wearing the saree in dhoti style saying that she used to feel comfortable in that style. The golden mangtika with the chain design covered up her hairline, making her face look even more beautiful. Though Lavanya didn't like heavy jewelry she couldn't say that she didn't look good with the jewelry.
"Your choice is always the best Jyoti." Lavanya smiled while checking herself in the mirror.
"Sister, I think we should go to the Queen's room. The guests must have arrived by now." Jyotimani informed.
"Mn." Lavanya nodded as she secretly put her dagger around her waist while covering it with the pallu of her saree.
After Lavanya had arrived at the Queen's room, she saw that the guests had already arrived. She walked inside the room while Jyotimani stood outside. She bowed to everyone, greeting them and then took her seat beside the Queen. Her eyes quickly gazing at the guests who were looking at her as if she was the prey and they were the hunters. The Queen Gayatri Devi herself didn't show that she was happy with her daughter-in-law, making it even tough for Lavanya to please the royal ladies.
"So she is Prince Virendra's wife?" A royal lady asked while sitting leisurely on the couch in Queen Gayatri Devi's room.
"Yes." Gayatri Devi said while placing her arm on the arm of the couch while sitting in a straight body posture which radiated the mighty Queen vibes.
"What's your name girl?" Another royal lady asked while observing Lavanya's behavior.
"My name is Lavanya," Lavanya said with a gentle smile.
"You like heavy jewelry, right?" A lady said while eyeing Lavanya's jewelry and dressing style.
"I like simple jewelry. But after getting married to the prince, I will get used to wearing this heavy jewelry." Lavanya replied as gentle as possible.
"Without wearing heavy jewelry, a royal won't look like a royal." The other lady chuckled while the others nodded, supporting her.
"What arts are you good at?" Queen Gayatri Devi asked while averted her gaze to her daughter-in-law.
That was the question that Lavanya feared the most. She only knew how to cook and take care of a family. Other than that, she was a warrior. She didn't have the time to learn the arts which a princess should learn.
"I-I can cook and do all daily chores including taking care of a family," Lavanya replied, uncertain of her answer.
"What?" One of the royal ladies burst into laughter. "My maid is also good at it."
"Queen Gayatri Devi, did you find a maid for your son?" Another lady uttered while laughing.
"The King selected her for the prince." Gayatri Devi glared at Lavanya while the latter's eyes were glued to the floor.
"Queen, you should have told me. I would have found a better bride for your son." The ladies laughed as if they heard some kind of joke.
Lavanya gulped while clenching her fists tightly, trying to stay as calm as possible. She could feel a lump in her throat while her eyes became moist. It was the first time she was being insulted so badly in front of everyone.
Don't cry Lavanya, don't cry. Lavanya started to console herself. You cannot lose your composure now. You are the daughter of Siravuri Bhargav and you didn't learn to lose. You cannot make your father feel low. Just control yourself.
Suddenly Lavanya felt the presence of someone else other than the royal ladies in the room. She immediately lifted her head while her sharp eyes quickly scrutinized the room. Her brows got knitted together when she didn't find anyone but her conscience kept screaming that someone outsider was present in the room.
"What are you looking at, hm?" One of the royal ladies said with disgust in her eyes.
"Isn't that characteristic of a maid? Looking around the rooms of rich people to steal things?" Another lady laughed.
"I-I can feel someone's presence in this room," Lavanya muttered while looking at the Queen.
"There are so many ladies in this room. So it's obvious to feel the presence of someone." Gayatri Devi replied in an authoritative voice.
Lavanya sighed as she looked down. She closed her eyes for a moment to focus on the slightest sound in the room. Suddenly a faint sound of the moment of curtains reached her ears. Her hand immediately traveled to her waist and quickly unsheathed the dagger before throwing it in the direction of the sound.
The next moment, a guy dressed in entire black except for his eyes came out from behind the huge pillar, holding his left arm, before fleeing away from the room.
"Intruder!" The Queen uttered as she instantly stood up while the royal ladies started to panic.
"Queen, ask for help. I will go and follow him." Lavanya quickly asserted before following the intruder.
The intruder was fast enough as he quickly ran, dodging the guards and their attacks while Lavanya followed him. After following him for a while, Lavanya realized that it was impossible for her to catch him as his speed was much more than her. She stopped and quickly took a look around the palace. She was standing in the middle region of the railing of the first floor of the palace while the intruder had already reached the staircase. The intruder had a clear scope of running through the courtyard before escaping from the place by climbing the walls. Her eyes suddenly fell on the sword hanging on the wall and a rope beside it.
Taking a sword out of it, she took out the rope and tied one of its end tightly to the railing before throwing the other end of the rope off the railing. She tightly held the rope before jumping off the railing. Holding onto the rope, she quickly climbed down and jumped before landing on the soft grass of the courtyard.
"Stop!" Lavanya yelled as she suddenly stood before the intruder and put the tip of the sword at his neck.
The intruder tried to run away but Lavanya firmly put the tip of the sword around his neck, touching the skin.
"Surrender!" Lavanya said in a commanding voice while her eyes sharply glared the intruder while the latter just stared at her making her lose her temper. "Either speak up or fight with me."
Finding no other option, the intruder unsheathed his sword and held it in position as if he was challenging Lavanya. A half-moon smile appeared on Lavanya's face and she tightened her grip on the sword.
The intruder stepped in before moving his sword with a full force, aiming an overhead attack while Lavanya immediately lifted her sword upwards, stopping the blow. Putting her hand on the flat part of her sword, she applied a force to push him, causing him to stumble back. Taking the chance, she extended her arm outwards, swinging it with a force, aiming at the intruder's neck. He quickly bent his body backward, dodging the blow. She attacked again but he stopped the blow with his sword, making Lavanya realize that the intruder wasn't an ordinary fighter but was an expert in sword fighting.
He applied force on his sword and pushed Lavanya, making her step a few steps back. He again swung his sword sideways but Lavanya quickly used her sword and stopped the blow. She started to lose her cool as it was taking more time than she expected to disarm the intruder. She applied force on the intruder's sword and started pushing it, extending into a full circle before spinning it around and out of the intruder's grip.
Lavanya immediately put her sword at the intruder's neck, touching the skin over there, making it impossible for him to move. By that time, the Queen reached the courtyard with some guards while the royal ladies accompanied her.
"I gave you two options and you chose to fight with me. Now speak up!" Lavanya snarled.
"Your highness, you already know that I am a spy and a spy don't open his mouth to reveal secrets." The intruder said in a deep voice while his almond eyes stared at Lavanya with confidence.
"I know." Lavanya chuckled without humor. "The spy who opens his mouth to reveal secrets is a betrayer of his king. But..." She glared at him as if she was throwing daggers through her stare. "You need to open your mouth here otherwise this sword will smoothly pass through your neck." She said casually as if she was playing a game.
"A spy doesn't fear to die." The intruder replied confidently while his thick flat brows showed no signs of fear.
"I don't want to kill you easily too," Lavanya uttered while looking into his eyes. "The dungeon of Maheswari is very spacious and we know several beautiful ways to make you reveal the truth." She gritted her teeth while applying pressure on her sword.
As a result, the sharp blade cut a little into his skin. The intruder closed his eyes and inhaled sharply when he felt the pain at the side of his neck while a few drops of blood rolled from the cut. Since the intruder was wearing black clothes covering his entire body except for his eyes, the wound couldn't be seen by outsiders. Only the intruder and Lavanya could understand that the wound has formed on his neck.
This entire incident was being watched by Virendra from a distance. When he saw that the situation was going out of hand, he decided to interfere and walked quickly towards the courtyard.
"Enough Karthik. How long will you play your tricks on her?" Virendra entered the scene with a smile on his face as he recognized his brother the moment his eyes fell on him.
"Prince Karthik!?" Lavanya's eyes widened as if they would pop out of her sockets while her brows almost got disappeared into her hairline.
