Lavanya : The Chosen Queen [On-Hold]9,757 words~49 min read

Recap-

While taking out the treasure, Virendra and his troops encountered the dacoits. Virendra was shot by Baldev, the dacoit leader. Then Sanvika takes the injured prince to her place and attends to him. The next day when he was at a better condition, he set off from that place. By the time he had reached the palace, he learns that Lavanya was missing from the palace. So the prince decides to set off to find Lavanya.

"Virendra, you aren't in a good shape to go out now!" The Queen yelled upon watching her son ready to ride his horse. Voice quivering with the fear of losing both her son and daughter-in-law, she tried hard not to break down at such a moment.

"Brother, you cannot go!" Saanvi quickly rushed to her brother, holding her brother's lower arm tightly with both her hands, trying to stop him.

"Try to understand, Saanvi," Virendra tried his best not to yank the princess's hand which stopped him from setting out in search of his wife.

"Brother Mahesh and I will go in search of sister-in-law. Please don't be stubborn, brother. Your injury doesn't look great," voice filled with concern, Karthik spoke, standing between Virendra's horse and him.

Closing his eyes for a moment, Virendra curled his hands into fists, almost digging his nails into his calloused palms while trying to control himself from lashing out at his loved ones. At that moment, nothing mattered to him. The only thing that mattered was to find his missing wife. Senses getting masked with worries and worst possibilities, Virendra couldn't help but curse himself for not meeting Lavanya before leaving for his mission.

"Y-Your Majesty…"

Amidst all the chaos, a familiar sweet voice was heard faintly, grabbing the attention of all the people present there.

Everyone present there turned towards the majestic entrance gate, trying to get a glimpse of the person. No sooner had the Queen's eyes fell on the person than she froze, unable to move. Taken aback, her eyes widened upon getting a glimpse of the person whom she was dying to see till a moment ago.

The royal princess Lavanya was standing at the enormous entrance of the royal palace along with her maid Jyotimani. A simple cotton saree draped in Nivi style, Lavanya seemed somehow a bit weak. Her once lively eyes seemed to droop, the colours drained from her pretty face, appearing deathly pale while her slightly trembling lips looked pale. In addition to the smudged kohl of the lower lash line, she seemed to develop some eye bags, clearly indicating that she didn't have a good sleep last night. A few strands of hair fell on her sweaty forehead, ascertaining that she was sick. A red kumkum bindi was evident on her glabella, implying that she went to offer prayers. Holding a silver tray that had prasadam as well as a few red threads in her hand, Lavanya forced a smile. Jyotimani who was standing behind the princess was holding a huge bronze tray that had empty puja ingredients' containers.

"Lavanya…" The Queen mumbled as she rushed towards her daughter-in-law. "Are you alright? Where did you go? Why do you look so pale? Did something happen?"

"I am sorry, mother. I couldn't return on time," Lavanya replied weakly, walking slowly towards the Queen. "Yesterday, I came to know that his highness was seriously injured. So I thought of offering prayers in the temple for his well being." Saying so, she glanced at her husband whose brows were furrowed, forming a deep frown while he was staring at her. "By the grace of God, his highness seems fine."

"You could've informed us, my child!" Gayatri Devi spoke, the voice sounded as worried as ever. "We were so worried about you. Virendra was about to go out to search of you."

"I am sorry," Lavanya stretched her lips upwards into a faint smile as she looked apologetically at Virendra. "Is your health better now?"

"Why do you look so unwell?" Brows knitted together forming a deep frown, Virendra spoke in his usual cold yet deep voice. Deep inside, he could feel she was hiding something, something very big. He could sense she was sick but she was trying to put on a normal face so that others wouldn't worry about her.

"I stayed all night in the temple. Perhaps that's why I look a bit weak," Lavanya uttered, words coming out of her lips sounded slower and weaker than usual. It felt like she was forcing herself to speak.

"Why do you have to stay in the temple all night when you are sick?" The King voiced out, sounding as grim as ever. Standing tall like a powerful king he was, he gazed at his daughter-in-law.

"I was worried about His Highness," Lavanya replied, hanging her head low.

"We have a lot of time to talk about these mere things. Lavanya doesn't look good. She needs some rest," the Queen asserted, taking the tray from Lavanya's hand. Glancing at the maid standing behind Lavanya, she said, "Jyotimani, go inside and prepare the room for the princess. She needs to rest as soon as possible."

"Yes, Your Majesty." Bowing before the Queen, Jyotimani hurried inside, almost running to the room to prepare the room for her mistress.

"Your Majesty, since all our children are here, I think you should return as well. You have to take care of the internal affairs," Gayatri Devi said in a gentle voice, looking at the King. "We will return shortly."

"Take care." The King briefly nodded, returning inside the palace.

The Queen was about to pass the tray to her maid, Lavanya spoke, making the former glance at her, " Mother, the priest advised to tie the sacred thread on His Highness's wrist as soon as possible for his well being."

"Why don't you do it once we get inside?" Gayatri Devi smiled softly.

"M-me?" Lavanya stammered.

Suddenly she could feel the world around her was spinning. She blinked her eyes, trying to adjust the blurred sight but it went in vain. She felt the world getting ever more blur. Scowling, she shook her head, pressing her eyelids tightly, trying to get rid of the nauseous feeling that had been bothering her since the moment she arrived at the palace gates. The headache which was almost killing her since the previous night seemed to get worse by now.

"Lavanya?" The Queen squinted, observing the sudden change in the behaviour of her daughter-in-law.

Virendra clenched his fingers tightly, forming a fist, anticipating the moment. If he was alone in the area, he would've rushed to her, lending her a hand to support her.

"Brother, what happened to sister-in-law?" Saanvi tugged Karthik's clothes gently, looking worriedly at Lavanya.

Karthik shook his head without glancing at his sister while lines of worries appeared on his forehead as his eyes were fixed on the lady who was struggling, trying to adjust her focus.

Whimpering, Lavanya opened her eyes, trying to subside the terrible feeling she was experiencing. Suddenly she could see darkness started to engulf her from all the sides like the flowing lava, decreasing her domain of sight. Before she could understand how to avoid this, her world blanked out, throwing her into a complete abyss of darkness.

Acting out of reflex, Virendra rushed to her side, snaking his strong arm around her, protecting her from getting kissed by the ground.

"Lavanya!" Virendra shook her gently as if he was trying to wake her up from sleep.

"Lavanya!" The Queen rushed to her, patting her cheeks gently. No sooner had her fingers touched the unconscious princess's cheeks than her eyebrows knitted together forming a frown. "She is burning!" She looked at her son whose facial expressions already changed to a great extent. "We need to take her to the royal physician as soon as possible."

Face contoured with worry, Virendra was walking to and fro with anticipation, waiting outside the princess's room for her to open her eyes. Hands clasped behind back, his speed of strolling was faster than usual while small beads of sweat already formed a glistening layer on his broad M-shaped forehead. Every once in a while, he glanced at the huge door, waiting for the physician and his mother to come out of the princess's room and let him know the condition of his wife.

Mahesh stood there, back resting against the wall, observing his worried friend while Karthik and Saanvi stood beside each other. Jyotimani, who rushed to the spot as soon as she received that news of her mistress fainting, was standing in a corner, tugging the end of her pallu.

"Your Highness...nothing will happen to our princess, right?" Jyotimani asked in a feeble voice, trying to hold tears that were threatening to escape from her eyes.

"I hope so," Karthik replied, brows knitted into a deep furrow.

Mahesh loured upon witnessing the strange facial expressions on his best friend's face. Why does it seem like Virendra knows the cause of Lavanya's fainting? Is this related to him? He looks much more worried. Shaking his head slightly, he again glanced at the prince. No...he seems guilty of something. Did I miss something? Should I ask him now?

Biting his inner cheek, Mahesh stood straight, intending to talk with his friend when suddenly the huge door opened with a creaking sound.

No sooner had the door opened than the royal siblings rushed to the physician.

"How is sister-in-law?" Karthik asked as soon as he saw the royal physician while the others looked intently at the latter.

"She is all fine. She will regain her consciousness soon," with a smile, the physician replied. She looked at the Queen who was standing behind her and bowed to her. "Take care of her. Please inform me when she will open her eyes. I am taking my leave." With a smile, she walked away towards her chamber.

"Mother, what happened to her?" Saanvi scurried towards her mother.

"The physician said that because of lack of proper meal and sleep she fainted. She's stressing herself out. Moreover, she had caught a cold." The Queen sighed, feeling a bit disappointed at herself. Closing her eyes, she let out a deep breath. "I didn't even realize that my child is going through all this and I did nothing but to sit and watch. I should have talked to her yesterday but I was so worried about the crowned prince that I didn't meet her."

"I am sorry, Your Majesty, I couldn't take care of her highness," Jyotimani broke into tears, after hearing that her mistress was doing fine. Being an ordinary girl who underwent a lot of hardships, she couldn't help but think of the worst possibilities ever. After getting news that princess Lavanya was fine, she couldn't control herself anymore and let go of all her anxiety in the form of tears.

"Why didn't you inform me?" Gayatri Devi asked in a grim voice which clearly showed how disappointed she was.

"Her Highness forbade me from telling everyone. She said she can take care of herself. I am sorry." Hanging her head low, Jyotimani gulped the lump around her throat, trying to control her tears.

So it's her doing. Such a stubborn girl! The Queen internally facepalmed. "Hm...let me know if she does anything like this the next time," the Queen said in a calm tone.

"Sure, Your Majesty," Jyotimani bowed to the Queen.

"Mother, c-can I stay with her?" Virendra said in a low remorseful voice.

"I will stay with her. Don't worry. You need to take a good rest as well, son. Your wound needs to heal," Gayatri Devi said with a slight smile, assuring her son that she would take care of the princess.

"But mo-"

"No more buts. All of you return to their respective rooms. I will inform you once she opens her eyes," The Queen spoke, cutting the words of the crown prince. "Jyotimani, you stay with me."

"Yes, Your Majesty," Jyotimani bowed slightly.

Virendra and Karthik seemed reluctant to move, glancing at the closed door. The Queen furrowed her brows, watching the two brothers.

"I said I will take care of her. You two don't need to worry about her. Now return to your rooms. Jyotimani, follow me." The Queen glanced at the maid, signalling the latter to follow her and disappeared into the room.

The door being slammed on their faces, the royal siblings had no other option than to return to their rooms

"Virendra, why do I feel like you know the reason for Her Highness's condition?" Mahesh asked as he followed Virendra inside his chamber.

He intently stared at the prince who had no intention of replying. Crossing his hands against his chest, he watched the prince slump against the soft cushion of the exotic royal couch.

Upon realising that the prince has no intention of answering, he asked again, "Prince Virendra, I am asking something. Do you know why Lavanya fell sick?"

"Don't ask," Virendra replied in a cold voice.

Eyelids shut together lightly, Virendra's fingertips slightly moved in circles at his temples, messaging the soft spot between the corner of his eye and his ear. Fingers clenched into a fist, the other hand rested against the arm of the couch. Brows knitted into a deep frown, his face clearly showed his discomfort. Observing his friend, Mahesh walked towards the other, standing in front of the sitting Prince.

"Does it hurt too much?" Mahesh asked about the prince's injury in a stoic tone, pouring water into the bronze glass.

"It's because of me," Virendra replied out of blue, with closed eyes, without bothering to look at his friend.

"Hm?"

"I am responsible for Lavanya's condition," opening his eyes, Virendra replied. Taking the glass of water from his friend's hand, he gently took a sip from it.

"I guessed it right," Mahesh chuckled without humour, taking a seat on the adjacent couch.

"Do you remember you asked me the previous day about me returning to the palace late in the morning?" The prince asked, leaning against the soft cushion.

"I almost forgot about that!" Mahesh exclaimed. Narrowing his eyes, Mahesh glared at his friend. "I deserve an explanation."

"That day after her training, we went to see the waterfall. She accidentally fell off the waterfalls and we landed in the plunge pool. There we were just having fun in the water when we discovered the secret of the dacoits," Sighing, Virendra continued. "I knew she tended to catch a cold. Instead of coming out of the water quickly, we…" he trailed off as he glanced at his friend who seemed thunderstruck. Annoyed at his friend's expression, huffed, "what's wrong?"

"Which training? Why did you accompany her if it's her training?" Mahesh asked, still unable to process the piece of information he received.

"I taught her some war skills," Virendra put his hand on his eyes, trying to relieve himself from the strong headache which was almost hammering him since a few hours ago.

"Since when?" Mahesh inquired.

"Almost half a month," Virendra replied nonchalantly.

"Huh!?" Mahesh's jaws slacked, almost dropping to the ground. Damn! He has been sneaking out with his wife almost every day and I didn't even notice this? Here I am dying while thinking about them not being friends with each other. This stoic faced beast! He had this romantic side as well!? How come I have never noticed it!?

"What are you thinking?" Virendra clicked his fingers.

"Ah? Nothing," laughing awkwardly, Mahesh scratched his nape.

"Why do I keep making mistakes?" Virendra mumbled, sighing for the umpteenth time.

"It's not your fault Virendra," Mahesh smiled gently. "She has been stressing herself way too much and she didn't have good sleep yesterday. She will be fine soon."

"That's too because of me."

"Well, you could've at least informed her. Bygones are bygones. We cannot undo it. Be careful next time," Mahesh said, getting up from his couch. "For now, get some sleep first. You need rest as well. Change your clothes first."

"I cannot sleep now." Pulling the strings of the kurta, he took off the cloth, leaving the wound exposed to the air.

"Your wound looks much deeper than I had expected!" Mahesh scrunched, glancing at his friend who didn't seem to mind his words.

"Sanvika Devi took care of it," the prince replied nonchalantly.

Rolling his eyes, Mahesh huffed," if you don't take care of your injury then even Sanvika Devi won't be able to help you this time. Your highness, please have mercy on this poor soul and have a good rest. I will inform you once the princess wakes up."

Face contoured with doubts, Virendra glanced at his friend. Mahesh nodded his head assuringly, closing the thick curtains of the room. Letting out a deep breath, Virendra retired to the bed, closing his eyes to drift into dreamland.

Groaning, Lavanya slowly opened her eyes. Narrowing her eyes, she tried to adjust her vision.

"You are awake,” a gentle female voice spoke, making the princess look at the source of the voice.

"Mother…" Lavanya propped her body on her elbows, trying to get up.

"Lay down," The Queen wrapped her hand around the younger's arms, helping her to lie down. Adjusting the pillow, she glanced at Jyotimani who couldn't stop smiling. "Inform the royal physician and the princes."

"Yes, Your Majesty," bowing to the Queen, Jyotimani scurried towards the door like a cheerful child.

How did I end up here? Lavanya frowned upon realizing that she was lying on her bed while Gayatri Devi was sitting on a stool beside her. Suddenly a flash of events came flooding her mind.

"How are you feeling now?" Gayatri Devi gently caressed the princess's hair, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Feeling better," Lavanya smiled weakly.

"Your Majesty, may I come in?" the royal physician bowed to the Queen and the princess as she entered the chamber.

"Yes, please," The Queen slowly pulled herself away, allowing the physician to check on the princess.

"How are you feeling now, your highness?" The physician asked, gently pressing her first three fingers against the princess's wrist, feeling the pulse of the radial artery.

"I am fine, just feeling a bit weak," Lavanya replied, leaning onto the pillows behind her back.

"You need to take care of your health, your highness," the physician said, glancing at the princess before returning her gaze to the Queen. "For now her condition is fine. It seems that she has been stressing too much these days. She needs proper meals and good sleep."

"I will take care of that," The Queen smiled gently before glaring at the princess who looked at her like an innocent puppy.

After the physician left the chamber, The Queen gently sat on the edge of the bed, glaring at the princess. Judging from the Queen's expressions, Lavanya clearly understood that she was going to get an earful. Smiling sheepishly, she slipped inside the blanket, covering herself up like a burrito, leaving a pair of eyes blinking cutely at the Queen. Gaze fixed on the princess, the Queen's expressions turned even more serious.

"Mother~" Lavanya meekly said, blinking.

"I want an explanation!" The Queen's voice sounded indifferent. Crossing her hands across her chest, she glanced at the maid before returning her gaze to the princess.

"I am sorry for not informing you before going to the temple," Lavanya pouted as she slowly crawled out of the blanket.

"I didn't ask about that. I am asking how did you catch a cold?" The Queen asked, adjusting pillows, allowing the princess to lean comfortably.

"Ah...well…" Lavanya bit her inner cheeks while looking away from the Queen. What should I do now? What should I say? Why did I land in such a situation!? Scratching her nape, she looked at maid Jyotimani. Raising her brows, she pressed her lips tightly while her eyes were screaming for help.

Jyotimani who was standing beside her mistress looked at the latter like a confused puppy, unable to understand the princess's hints.

Glancing at the younger girls, the Queen cleared her throat. "What are you two doing?"

"Well...actually mother I was being a little bit careless. So I've caught a cold. I will take care of myself. Sorry for worrying you," Lavanya replied remorsefully, lowering her head.

"Don't act reckless next time, dear. Your health is important," The Queen smiled a bit, cupping the princess's cheek. "You can talk to me if you have any difficulty regarding anything. Don't stress yourself."

"Mn." Nodding her head like a little child, Lavanya smiled brightly. "How long did I fall asleep?"

"It's evening dear," Gayatri Devi replied. Clapping her hands twice, she glanced at the door.

A maid arrived holding a bowl. She signalled the maid to put the bowl on the table. Bowing to the Queen, the maid put the bowl on the told area and left the room.

"I slept for so long!" Lavanya exclaimed.

Humming, the Queen removed the cover on the bowl. Taking the bowl of broth in her hand, she took a spoonful of broth. Blowing gently on the broth, she extended her hand, holding the spoon in front of Lavanya's mouth.

"I can feed myself," the princess said after taking the spoonful of broth into her mouth.

"Hmph?" The Queen quirked her brows as she glared at the princess while her eyes clearly said ' don't you dare to stop me'.

"Mother...how is he?" Lavanya asked in a feeble voice, her big eyes gleaming in the lights of the diyas.

"He is fine. He is taking rest," the Queen chuckled. "And I've tied the sacred thread on his wrist."

Before the Queen could say anything, the door opened with a bang and a girl made her way towards the princess.

"Sister-in-law~" Saanvi rushed towards Lavanya like she was following a beeline. "How are you feeling now?

"I am fine," Lavanya chuckled upon watching how anxious Saanvi looked as she sat beside her mother.

"You should knock on the door before entering the room," The Queen said while Lavanya slowly slurped on the broth.

"Sorry," Saanvi smiled sheepishly.

"How are you sister-in-law?" Karthik asked as he stepped inside the room.

"I am fine," Lavanya smiled. "Have a seat."

"Since both of you are here, I am leaving your sister-in-law in your care," the Queen smiled, slowly getting up from the bed. "I've to take care of other things."

"Sure, mother," Saanvi replied as she watched the Queen walk out of the room.

No sooner had the Queen walked out of the room than Saanvi hugged Lavanya's hand, looking at her like a lost kitten. Chuckling, Lavanya softly caressed the younger's hair.

"What's going on?" Lavanya asked softly.

"I was so worried about my brother and you," Saanvi pouted.

"Hm?" Brows knitted into the deep furrow, Lavanya glanced at the prince before returning her gaze to the princess. "What happened to him? Is he alright?"

"He is fine but still...I am scared," Saanvi unconsciously tightened her grip around the princess's arm.

"He will be alright, Saanvi. He is strong, isn't it?" Lavanya smiled, softly implanting a kiss on the other's forehead.

"Mm," Saanvi pouted, distancing herself from the princess. "Since you are fine, I guess I am not that scared."

After spending some time with Lavanya, Saanvi took her farewell.

"Speak," Lavanya said in a gentle voice as she glanced at fidgeting Karthik.

"Huh?" Like a deer caught in headlights, Karthik stared at the princess, dumbfounded.

"Jyoti, check if the door is closed," Lavanya glanced at Jyoti. "You wanted to ask about how I managed everything without getting caught, didn't you?"

"How did you guess!?" Karthik exclaimed.

Her soft laughter reverberated in the room upon hearing the question. "You have been fidgeting since the moment you came into my room. It's easy to guess that you want to ask something but you cannot find the proper time to ask."

"How did you manage everything so perfectly?" Karthik asked, looking at his sister-in-law with eyes full of admiration.

"You remember I had sent you two messages yesterday and one was told to give to Jyotimani, it had everything in it," Lavanya smiled, staring at the ceiling.

"Huh?!" Karthik's jaws slacked as his pupils widened. "She knew about your hidden identity!?"

"Of course, she knew," Lavanya chuckled softly. "She is one of my closest persons."When I sent the message to you, the other message with symbols was for Jyoti. I instructed her to reach the temple in the morning as early as possible," Lavanya smiled a bit as her pupils travelled to the farthest corner of her eyes, glancing at her maid. "And as expected, Jyotimani reached the temple in the morning earlier than me with all the materials required for the puja. No sooner had your brother left our place, I quickly changed my clothes as well as changed my whole appearance. Then using the most secret route, I reached the temple. Fortunately, the priest lives in a small hut near the temple. Taking advantage of the situation, Jyoti requested the priest and the priest agreed to perform the puja. After reaching the temple, we performed the puja and then arrived here as soon as possible."

"Jyotimani, why didn't you tell me about this plan?" Karthik scowled.

"Her highness mentioned to be careful. So I didn't didn't inform you." Looking away, Jyotimani tucked her hair behind her ears, trying to escape from the prince's gaze.

"Haha…don't be angry with her," lips curving upwards, she gently leaned on the pillow. "By the way, how is your brother? Is his wound fine? Did he apply any medicine?"

"I don't know. Brother Mahesh told me that he was taking a nap. After that, I didn't meet him," Karthik replied.

"I am sure he didn't apply any medicine," mumbling, the princess rolled her eyes. "Jyoti…" she glanced at the maid.

Understanding the signal, she came to the princess and stood beside her. Lavanya extended her hand gently while Jyotimani softly held her hand, providing support. Putting her legs on the floor, she slowly stood up.

"Do you need anything, sister-in-law? I can help you," Karthik asked worriedly.

Giving a side glance at the prince, Lavanya walked towards the huge balcony of her room. Her long, untied ink-black hair was hanging freely a little below her waist. A few locks of hair fell on her face, making her look beautiful even in such a state.

"Sister-in-law?" Karthik called her softly, following her to the balcony.

"It's for your brother." Her gentle gaze fell on the prince while her long fingers softly plucked few leaves from the medicinal plants which she used to grow on the balcony. "I am sure your brother has neither applied medicine to his wound nor went to the physician. So these medicinal leaves are necessary for his wound."

"Woah! Sister-in-law, you know a lot about brother," Karthik quirked his brows, chuckling silently.

"Teasing me?" Lavanya laughed softly, handing the plucked leaves to the other lady.

"I dare not to," Karthik shook his hands vigorously, implying that he wasn't teasing at all, though his words didn't sound sincere.

"I have been your brother's best friend since childhood. So it's natural for me to know about him." Lavanya replied while plucking some extra leaves.

Giving those leaves to Jyoti, she instructed her to make a paste of the leaves while she would enjoy the gentle evening breeze. Resting her elbows on the railing, she closed her eyes, allowing the breeze to touch her face gently. Karthik stood there, gazing at the small twinkling stars.

"Karthik, can you please inform Akshara that I've reached home safely?" Lavanya asked feebly.

"Sure, I will take care of it." Karthik smiled.

"I think you should return Karthik. You must be busy."

"It's fine sister-in-law."

Lavanya was about to oppose Karthik's idea when she heard a knock on the door.

"Virendra! Lavanya woke up a while ago!" Mahesh almost stumbled as he hurriedly entered Virendra's room.

Prince Virendra was standing on the balcony without his upper robes, exposing his wound. His hair slightly flew as the gentle breeze touched his face. His eyes were closed while his facial expressions were relaxed which clearly showed that he was enjoying the soft breeze. The armlets hugged his biceps tightly as his elbows were flexed against the railing. His muscular body had several scars which expressed his glory as the God of War. The new wound on his chest was just another proof that he could survive any adverse condition. Upon listening to his friend's excited voice, he quickly came inside.

"She woke up?" Virendra's eyes lit up.

"You should meet her. She must be waiting for you," Mahesh advised. "Put on an uttariya and let's go." Finding a comfortable uttariya for the prince, Mahesh glanced at Virendra who was fidgeting. Narrowing his eyes, he walked towards the prince." What's wrong?"

"I think we should go to see her later," Virendra replied.

"Why?!" Mahesh almost lost his composure hearing his words.

"The Queen must be there for her. And I think she needs the Queen more than she needs me." Viendra explained, checking the wound in the mirror.

"You are good at finding excuses," Mahesh scoffed, putting the cloth on the royal couch. "How is your wound? Did you consult the physician?"

"No," Virendra didn't even care to look at his friend as he was keenly checking the condition of the wound. "The lady attended to the wound very well. I don't think I need to go to a physician for this."

"My dear prince, you were poisoned. It's not an ordinary wound. You should let the physician check it." Mahesh crossed his hands across his chest, glaring at the prince with a pair of determined eyes that clearly warned the prince that if the prince didn't go to the physician then he himself would drag him to the doctor.

"Alright. I will go to the physician after meeting the princess." Virendra said in an indifferent tone.

After some time, Virendra and Mahesh decided to check on the princess. Wrapping the uttariya loosely around his body, he walked out of the room.

"Mahesh, is there any new news about the kingdom?" Virendra asked, striding forward.

"Everything is fine," Mahesh smiled, masking a grave truth which he recently came to know.

"Hm?" Virendra's facial expressions turned serious as he clearly saw the stressed expressions of his friend. "What are you hiding? Is it anything related to Maheswari?"

"It's nothing," Mahesh faked a laugh. "Everything is fine."

"Mahesh...I have known you since childhood. You cannot hide things from me. Now say what's wrong. Did something happen recently?" Virendra again asked.

"It's really nothing, Virendra. You are overthinking." Mahesh said, looking away from his friend, avoiding the other's gaze.

Virendra was about to emphasize the topic when they encountered the Queen.

"What are you two doing here at this hour?" The Queen asked, glancing at the two young men.

"We are on the way to pay a visit to the princess, Your Majesty," Mahesh replied politely.

"Ah...sure. How is your wound Virendra? Did you talk to the royal physician?" The Queen inquired.

"I will talk to the physician after meeting the princess. The condition is much better than before. So I didn't go to the physician." Virendra explained.

Facial expression turning into grim one, the Queen's lips slightly parted to rebuke the prince but she controlled herself. Letting out a deep breath she said, " alright. But make sure to talk to the physician. Your wound needs to heal as soon as possible since I cannot trust you with taking care of the wound."

"Is she sleeping now?" Virendra asked since he expected to meet her mother in his wife's room.

"Your siblings are accompanying her," Gayatri Devi smiled.

"Mn," Virendra nodded gently. "I am taking my leave then."

"Sure," The Queen smiled. "Mahesh, take care of your friend."

"Yes, Your Majesty," Mahesh bowed.

Smiling, the Queen walked away.

"Virendra, I think we need to see her as soon as possible. She might go to bed soon today since she is not in good health," Mahesh said in a concerned voice.

Humming, Virendra and Mahesh walked towards the princess's chamber. On reaching the chamber, Virendra's brows furrowed upon finding Karthik's men standing outside the chamber. He glanced at Mahesh once. Mahesh nodded and knocked on the door.

After sometime the door opened and the first person Virendra could see was Jyotimani.

"Y-your H-highness…" Jyotimani immediately bowed, moving aside, giving space for the prince to enter the room.

"Where is she?" Virendra asked in a cold tone.

"Who is it?" Lavanya's voice was heard and in the next movement, Virendra's eyes fell on the princess who was walking around in the room instead of resting.

Brows knitting into a deep furrow, Virendra spoke in his usual cold voice, "what are you doing instead of resting?"

"Ah? Brother?" Hearing the prince's voice, Karthik walked into the room from the balcony. "Finally you are here!"

"I am staying outside. Spend your time with your wife..." Mahesh said in a low voice before walking a bit away from the door.

"Why are you standing at the door? Please come inside," Lavanya smiled gently.

"Since my brother is here, I am taking my leave. Take care sister-in-law," Karthik smiled like a child before glancing at his brother. "Take care of my sister-in-law, brother. I am leaving."

Karthik left the room, leaving two agitated souls together.

"Ah...prince…"

"Why are you walking around instead of lying down and taking a rest?" Virendra asked.

"I am fine now. So I was just enjoying the breeze," Lavanya replied.

"Really? Then who fainted in the morning and woke up in the evening? Me?" Virendra arched his brows as he stared at his wife intently.

Brows knitting into a frown, Lavanya said, "I am perfectly fine now, your highness. It's not that I am going to faint again. Moreover, it's you who need more rest than me."

"I am alright. Nothing happened to me."

"Ha? Really? Then who spent the entire night outside the palace while getting nursed by some lady?" Lavanya scoffed, her brows quirked.

Sensing the tension in the air, Jyotimani decided to interfere.

"Ahaha...your highness, you need to rest. Please don't stress yourself." Jyotimani laughed awkwardly, trying to ease the situation. "Your Highness, you too need rest. You haven't recovered yet," turning towards the prince, Jyoti said in a low voice.

Closing her eyes, she let out a deep breath. "Your Highness, let's have a seat first."

"Mn."

Walking to the bed, Lavanya comfortably sat on the bed while Virendra sat on the royal couch adjacent to the bed.

"You fainted in the morning. You shouldn't walk around like that. Your body needs rest." Virendra said, sitting carefully on the couch.

A small smiled appeared on the princess's lips. So he is worried about me? This spoiled prince doesn't even know how to to comfort others.

"Thank you for worrying about me, your highness," Lavanya smiled. "By the way, how is your wound? Did you go to the physician?"

"It's better than before. I will go to the physician at night," The prince replied in his monotonous voice.

"Huh?!" Lavanya's eyes bulged out. "Did you not go to the physician?"

"No."

Amazing! Gritting her teeth, Lavanya glanced at her maid with a so-done look on her face.

Jyotimani pressed her lips together, trying hard not to burst into laughter. On the other hand, Virendra was sitting without any second thought, enjoying the soft cushion against his back.

Taking a deep breath, Lavanya took a minute to calm down to avoid a childish argument with her husband.

When she felt she had calmed down, a sweet smile appeared on her lips. "Why did you not go to the physician, Your Highness?"

"Not necessary."

"You-"

"My princess, I think you should talk to the prince. I am leaving." Jyotimani smiled mischievously.

"Wait, Jyoti! Where are you planning to go!?" Lavanya exclaimed, slightly shaking her head, signalling her not to go.

"I don't want to eavesdrop on a couple's private talks," Jyotimani silently chuckled.

Astounding! I was waiting my whole life just to witness my closest friend change sides! I am impressed, Jyotimani. Lavanya smiled while masking her helpless condition.

"Yes, you should go outside," Virendra said in a stoic voice. "Mahesh wants to talk to you."

"Huh!?" Jyotimani's jaws dropped. Never ever did she expect this from the cold faced prince. Moreover, her heart almost skipped a beat upon hearing that her crush was waiting outside for her.

No sooner had she heard Virendra's words than Lavanya's face lit up. Pressing her lips together, suppressing her laughter, she said, "Yeah Jyotimani, you should go outside."

"My sweet princess~ can I please accompany you? I must attend to you." Jyotimani smiled awkwardly, looking at the princess with help me look on her face.

"Hm? Did you not want to go out just a while ago?" Lavanya arched her brows, giving her 'enjoy sweetheart' look. "Now you must go outside. You shouldn't eavesdrop on a couple's private conversation. Moreover your *coughs*...someone is waiting for you."

"I am sorry. I am wrong. I won't even dare to leave my princess alone," Jyoti pouted.

"I am here to accompany her," Virendra spoke. "You can go now."

Jyotimani looked at the princess like a lost little puppy seeking help since she had no other option than to leave the room while Lavanya waved her hand slightly, smiling as brightly as ever. Pouting, Jyotimani slowly walked out of the room.

No sooner had the door closed than Lavanya looked at the prince. Crossing her arms across her chest she glared at the prince.

"Prince Virendra, your wound needs to be attended to. Just leaving it untreated won't cure it." Lavanya said in an intimidating tone.

"I am used to it," Virendra replied.

Stubborn spoiled prince! Guess what...some habits never change. Sighing, Lavanya stretched her hand to reach the bowl of medicinal paste which Jyotimani kept on the adjacent table. Location of the table not being exactly adjacent to the bed, Lavanya had to struggle to reach the bowl.

"What are you doing!?" Clicking his tongue, Virendra stood up, helping her to get the bowl. "You could've just told me." Glaring at her, he took his seat.

"Sit here," Lavanya signalled him with her eyes to sit on the bed, in front of her.

"Hm?"

"I said sit here in front of me, your highness," Lavanya frowned. "I need to apply the medicine to your wound."

"You made this for me?" Virendra's eyes widened a bit which didn't add much to his expressionless face. "How did you know that I left the wound untreated?" He asked, changing his place, sitting in front of her.

"I have known since childhood. It's not that I met you just yesterday and I don't know a bit about you," Lavanya chuckled. "Habits are hard to break. You have a bad habit of leaving the wounds untreated. I used to help you to treat the wounds and take you to the physician. Did you forget how I helped you the first time to treat your wound?"

"How can I forget that? You almost emptied a whole bottle of alcohol just to disinfect a little wound on the knee caused by falling," the prince grinned upon reminiscing how worried little Lavanya was back then and how novice she was when she struggled to hold the bottle of wine in her hands, almost emptying the whole bottle of wine on the wound.

"Tsk...you always remember how I've failed in doing things." Shaking her head, she chuckled,  moving closer to her husband to have a clear view of the wound. "Now let me have a look at your wound. Remove your uttariya."

"Mn." Removing the uttariya, Virendra sat with his back straight and shoulder at the back, sitting in an upright position.

No sooner had he removed the cloth from his body than the ugly wound peeped in. Lavanya gasped upon seeing the condition of the wound. Even though the wound seemed well treated, still it appeared nasty. It seemed like the pectoralis major muscle was injured much which might be hindering Virendra's body movements.

"The condition of your wound isn't too good!" Lavanya gasped.  "You need to see the physician right now!"

"It's in better condition. I've checked the wound before coming here," Virendra replied, defending himself.

"You are going to the physician now!" smiling intently, masking her anger, she got down from the bed. Walking to the prince's side, she held his wrist tightly, pulling him, urging him to get down from the bed.

"W-what are you doing!?" Virendra gasped, getting down from the bed due to the impact of the force.

"Can't you see? I am urging you to get out of bed and go to the physician. Now let's go…" Pulling his hand, she almost walked to the door.

"Let go...I can walk on my own. And are you planning to walk out of the room like this!?"  Virendra tried to pull his hand out of her grip but her grip was too tight to set himself free.

"Like what?" Releasing her grip, she turned towards the prince.

"Like this...like letting your hair like that, without tying it up. Moreover, you are too weak to accompany me. You need rest," Virendra stammered, looking away from the princess. How can she just let her hair like that? Aish...what if someone stare at her fascinated by her beauty?!

"Eh? Do you look that bad by letting my hair down!?" Lavanya mumbled, unconsciously running her finger through her long strands of hair. "Alright alright! I am tying it up."

Holding all the hair in her hand, she twisted the hair well before making a big bun at the backside of her head. She slightly pulled the hair of the front part, making the front side of her hair look a bit puffy and loose so that it wouldn't hurt her scalp.

"Do I look presentable now?" Lavanya asked, looking at the prince. "Moreover, I am not that weak. I can even challenge you for a duel now."

"Wear some jewellery before going out. Atleast wear the mangalsutra," Virendra said, realizing that she was wearing only a nose pin and few bangles as her jewellery.

"Here's the mangalsutra," putting a finger around the chain of her neck, Lavanya pulled up the chain around her neck and showed it to her husband. "Married women don't take this off their necks. So I wear it all the time. Speaking of the jewellery, no one is going to watch me or watch what I am wearing. So let's go now." Saying so she again started to pull his hand, determined to take him to the physician at any cost.

"Lavanya wait!"

Meanwhile, Lavanya already pushed the door open and walked out of the door along with the prince.

"Virendra!"

"Sister!"

Mahesh and Jyoti who were taking outside the room stood spellbound at the sight. Their eyes bulged out while the jaws dropped upon witnessing Lavanya dragging Virendra while the latter was holding the uttariya in his hand.

"What's going on?" Mahesh spoke, standing before the couple.

"Taking your beloved friend to the physician." Lavanya glared at the prince, letting him go while the latter was so helpless about the situation.

"Ah...sister, can you please be gentle with His Highness? It looks like you are forcing him," Jyotimani's gaze darted between the prince and the princess.

"Serves him right!" Mahesh arched his brows, crossing his arms across his chest. "I told him to go to the physician but never ever he listens to me. A hell-bent wife is perfect for an obstinate husband." Mahesh rolled his eyes. Suddenly he glanced at Jyoti. "But I do like a caring wife, not some hell-bent one."

Hearing Mahesh's words, Jyotimani looked down while a pinkish shade appeared on her cheeks.

Feeling the tension in the air, Lavanya laughed, dragging the prince, "Carry on with your conversation, I am leaving since I am in a hurry."

"Good luck princess. Enjoy your time prince," Mahesh shouted before cracking up.

"You shouldn't make fun of them like that," Jyotimani said, looking like a little kitten.

"You don't know how stubborn Virendra is. Lavanya is perfect for him," Mahesh chuckled, watching his mighty friend getting dragged away.

"Lavanya stop! Atleast let go of my hand...Lavanya, are you even listening to me!? Lavanya…" Virendra yelled, getting dragged while his words fell on deaf ears.

When he realized that the princess had no intention of releasing his hand, he suddenly stopped, applying pressure on his wrist before pulling his hand towards him. As the impact of force, Lavanya got dragged towards the Virendra, standing a few inches away from him.

"What is this?" Vijayendra scoffed, raising his wrist which was within Lavanya's grip in the air. "I am asking you to release your grip on it."

"I am afraid that you will run away once I release your hand and you will deny visiting to the physician," Lavanya smiled, masking annoyance.

"I am not a child."

"You are not an old man as well."

"No one can win an argument against you!" Virendra huffed, looking away from her.

"Great! Since you know that it's useless to argue with me, please follow me, your highness," Lavanya grinned, feeling satisfied upon winning the little argument.

"Princess Lavanya, do you even know how bizarre this scene is?" Virendra quirked his brows, looking intently at her.

"Why?" Lavanya arched her brows, staring at her husband.

"Do I have to explain that too to you now?" Virendra smirked.

"Hm?" Lavanya looked at him, clueless.

"The princess is dragging her husband through the corridor while she is wearing only a simple saree without any jewellery and her husband is forcefully getting dragged without his upper robes, with a uttariya in his hand...do you think this is really a beautiful sight to enjoy?" Leaning towards his wife, keeping a distance of a few inches away from her, Virendra's lips curved upwards into a naughty smirk. "What if people think that the princess is forcing herself on the poor prince?"

Realization striking hard, Lavanya at once released his hand with force. "W-what are you talking about!? Who is forcing you!?" Looking as unprepared as ever, Lavanya looked away, feeling embarrassed at his words. "Stop making excuses and follow me!" Clicking her tongue, she started to walk towards the physician's chamber, leaving her husband behind. Eh...such a spoiled prince! He always knows how to piss me off.

I thought I would see her shy expressions but instead, I saw her embarrassed face. It's really fun teasing her. Chuckling, Virendra covered his upper body with the uttariya. She really got strength in her arms. Rubbing his wrist, he saw Lavanya walking away.

"Princess, wait for me!" Chuckling, he rushed to follow her.

"Vaidh Ji, in how many days will he be cured completely?" Lavanya asked the physician who was busy checking the prince's wound.

"His wound was attended to very well. Since the first aid was done very well, this wound will heal soon. Moreover, his recovery is very fast. So he might heal by the next 20 days," the physician replied, putting a new bandage on the wound. "He needs to take care of his diet. Please avoid spicy foods and wine. Try to increase your diet of fruits, milk and green leafy vegetables. These will help in wound healing."

"I will take care of that," Lavanya smiled gently. "Sorry for disturbing you at this hour."

"It's my duty, your highness," the physician smiled after finishing attending to the prince. "How is your health now, princess?"

"I am fine," Lavanya replied. "Does his wound need any herbal pastes or anything for speedy recovery?"

"Yes. I will write to them and will hand it to you."

The physician prescribed some herbal medicines to the prince. After taking a note of everything, he gave the piece of paper. Taking the paper, the couple bade goodbye to the physician before returning to their chamber.

"Your highness, the dacoits are still there in the dungeon. They aren't interrogated, right?" Lavanya asked, walking inside her room after dinner.

"Not yet. I am thinking of interrogation by myself," Virendra replied.

"You need rest. I don't think it's a good idea to interrogate Baldev in this condition," Lavanya said, helping Virendra to remove the uttariya. "Can I interrogate him?"

"I don't think it's a good idea either," Virendra replied while his facial expressions turned into unpleasant ones. Shaking his head, he tried moving his left hand slightly, trying to check the condition of his injury.

"Don't move your arm. It needs rest," Lavanya sat before him. "The physician advised to apply the herbal paste before going to sleep. So I need to undo your bandage and then put a new one on it."

"Mn."

"Your Highness, Baldev isn't someone who will spill words easily. Using the most crooked ways will work the best," she sighed, gently unwrapping the bandage. "Moreover, I feel like Baldev has had his eyes on Maheswari since a long time."

"I know he has had his eyes on the royal throne since a long time," Virendra voiced out. "But still...I cannot let you interrogate him. "

"Why?!" Lavanya frowned, taking out the herbal paste which was made a few hours ago. She just added a little more ingredients to it, making it the perfect cure. "Do you think I am incapable?"

"I know you are capable enough to handle it but…"

"But what?"

"But he already has his eyes on you," Virendra said, annoyed. "Don't you remember what he said to you when we were returning from the temple that day?"

"Ha!?" Lavanya's jaws dropped. "Y-you are worried about me!?"

"Am I not allowed to do that?!" Virendra arched his brow, looking at her with a 'are you kidding me' look.

"Ah? Aahaha~ I feel so elated," Laughing awkwardly, Lavanya replied, dipping her fingers into the herbal paste. "Your highness, please allow me to take care of your wound."

"So...you are not going to interrogate him, are you?" Virendra asked, turning towards her, letting her apply the medicine.

"Let me attend to your wound first." Lavanya's brows furrowed into a deep frown as she saw how nasty the wound looked. "Does it hurt too much?" She asked slowly with a worried expression while her eyes were stuck at the wound.

"It doesn't hurt much," Virendra replied in a gentle voice while a small smile appeared on his lips upon witnessing his wife worrying for him.

"You should have taken much of the soldiers with you. Who asked you to go to fight with Baldev alone!?" Lavanya scoffed, gently touching her medicine dipped fingers on the wound, applying the medicine evenly on it.

"How did you know that I went with a small number of soldiers?" Virendra asked while a small frown appeared on his face.

Hearing the question, her fingers stopped while her heart almost skipped a beat. Just then Lavanya realized what she had asked. For a moment she forgot that Lavanya didn't see the scene but Sanvika Devi was present there.

Damn! What have I done! What should I do now? How can I forget that Sanvika Devi saw him, not Lavanya!

"Lavanya? I asked something," Virendra spoke, pulling Lavanya out of her daze.

"Karthik told me!" Lavanya blurted out. "He told me what happened yesterday. So I know." Her voice dropped at the end of the sentence.

"Ah...he must have told you." Virendra nodded his head while his facial expressions looked like he was convinced by Lavanya's explanation.

Thank God! I am saved. Lavanya let out a deep breath.

"Y-you should be more careful while going on to missions like that," Lavanya mumbled. Completing the changing of the bandage, she sat beside her husband. "So...can I go for the interrogation?"

"I will accompany you," Virendra let out a sigh, reluctant to let his wife deal with the case alone.

"Alright. After your condition gets better, both of us will look into this case," Lavanya replied with a smile.

"Where is your maid?" Virendra asked, getting up from the bed. "It's late, I should return to my room now."

"She might be spending her time in the garden or somewhere in the palace. If I am right, then Mahesh won't be accompanying you now," Lavanya chuckled. "Let them enjoy their time. Well...will you stay tonight here?"

"I don't want to trouble you anymore," Virendra replied. "You need rest as well. I will return to my room then."

"Take care of yourself, prince."

Walking a few steps towards the door, he stopped, turning towards his wife. Fidgeting, he glanced at her. "Mnn...well…" Virendra shuttered, looking away from the princess.

"Hm?" Lavanya arched her brows, looking at the prince questioningly. "Do you want to say something?"

"I am sorry," Virendra looked guilty. "If I didn't take you to see the waterfalls, then you wouldn't have fallen into the waterfalls and this couldn't have been avoided. You wouldn't have fallen sick if it weren't because of me."

"Prince…" Lavanya burst into laughter. "I thought you wanted to say something very important regarding the welfare of Maheswari." She glanced at the prince who was looking at her, guilt-stricken.

"I wanted to apologise when I met you in the evening but…"

"You don't need to apologise. It's not that you caused all this. I too wanted to play with water and enjoy the sight of the waterfalls. I should thank you, your highness," Lavanya smiled gently which clearly told the prince that he didn't need to apologise. "Otherwise, I would've never enjoyed such a beautiful view of waterfalls. And thank you for staying safe. I was so worried about you." Lavanya sighed. "You stayed all night at that lady's place and I was so scared since your injury wasn't a normal one as well."

"I am sorry for going out without letting you know. Next time, I will inform you," Virendra smiled gently.

"Mn," Lavanya nodded while a small pout appeared on her lips.

Before Virendra could ask why she was pouting, the door opened with a bang.

"Princess...I am so sorry that I returned so late. I swear I will never go to talk to brother Mah-"

Jyotimani entered the room without noticing her surroundings. She thought the prince returned to his room since it was late. But upon witnessing the prince and princess having a good conversation, she stopped on her tracks.

"I-I am s-sorry… I-I didn't m-mean to interrupt you. I-I will g-go out then…"

"Wait…" Virendra's deep voice echoed, making the little girl flinch. "Attend to the princess. She needs rest."

"T-thank you, y-your h-highness," Jyotimani bowed to the prince.

"Did brother Mahesh return?" Lavanya asked, trying to peep outside the room.

"He is standing outside," Jyotimani mumbled while her gaze was fixed on the ground.

"That's great! Your Highness, you should return to your room. Since brother Mahesh is here, he will escort you." Lavanya smiled. "Good night, Your highness. Have a good rest."

"Good night"

After the prince walked out of the room, Lavanya grabbed Jyotimani's hand.

"What happened? Did he confess? Did he propose to you?" Lavanya asked while her eyes lit up like a curious child.

"Nothing happened. We just walked in the garden," Jyotimani smiled shyly while a reddish shade of blush covered her cheeks.

"Uhm? Your smile says something else…" Lavanya smirked. "Why are you hiding from your sister? Now say what happened?"

"Well...he is so romantic. He gave me a flower," saying so, Jyotimani covered her face, trying to hide her blushing face. She turned her back towards the princess so that the latter could see the beautiful red rose placed beautifully on her braid.

"Such a beautiful rose!" Lavanya chuckled. "Why are you feeling so shy? You should spend more time with him."

"No way, sister!" Jyotimani removed her hands from her face, looking at the princess. "I told him that I have to attend to you but he said he will take only a little time. But the little time turned into almost 3 hours. I dare not to leave her highness again!"

"It's okay to take breaks, you know." Lavanya laughed as she walked to the window.

"By the way, how's it with prince Virendra?" Jyotimani asked, looking intently at her.

"He is fine. The physician said that it will take around 20 days for the wound to heal." Lavanya put her hands on the rim of the window, looking at the clear sky.

"That's great!" Jyotimani smiled.

Abruptly, a screech of an owl was heard and the next moment a gigantic white owl was flapping its wings in front of Lavanya, trying to find a place to sit.

"A message from Devi Sena? Didn't Surya take a rest today?" Lavanya moved a bit back, allowing the bird to settle on the rim.

Untying the small roll of paper tied to the leg of the bird, she started to read it. Upon reading the message, her facial expression turned into a grim one.

Slave trade? Someone is doing this nasty business in our kingdom right under our nose and we don't even have an idea about this?! I think I need to inform prince Virendra about this. This time Lavanya needs to show her prowess instead of Sanvika Devi.

9500 words...

How the update?  I thought to stop it at 5k words but it went 6.3k words. Then I planned to stop it at 7k words but it went 9.5k words. 😥

-------------------

How's the chapter? Are Virendra X Lavanya moments okay? Do I need to modify it?

Please do let me know about your opinion, otherwise I won't understand if you are liking it or not...

I am sorry for not updating since a long time.

If anyone say has ever said that college is easy...I am telling you, just sew their lips. College is hella hard. It's much more harder than high school. The assignments, the continuous pressure of study and thoughts about future will almost kill you. Aish...

If I had ever knew that studying is this hard...I wouldn't even have taken birth ☹

What is done cannot be undone, so yeah... *smiles in pain*
