Nick and Charlie had planned this evening for what felt like ages. Life had been busy, as it often wasâschool, friends, and the general chaos of teenage life kept pulling them in different directions. But tonight was theirs, and they were determined to make the most of it.
It was a cold Friday night, and they had Nick's house all to themselves. His mom was away for the weekend, and his older brother David was out with friends. The house was quiet, save for the occasional creak of old wood as it settled in the cold. They were sprawled out on the living room couch, a movie playing softly in the background, more as a pretext for cuddling than for watching. The glow of the television cast a warm light over them, adding to the coziness of the moment.
Nick had his arm draped around Charlie's shoulders, and Charlie was leaning into him, his head resting comfortably on Nick's chest. The warmth between them was palpable, a welcome contrast to the chilly weather outside. Nick's fingers traced idle patterns on Charlie's arm, sending shivers down his spine that had nothing to do with the cold.
"Can we turn this off?" Charlie murmured, tilting his head to look up at Nick.
Nick smiled, recognizing the look in Charlie's eyesâsoft but with a hint of mischief. "You're not into it?" he teased, but he was already reaching for the remote.
The movie clicked off, leaving them in a silence that felt charged with something more than just comfort. Charlie shifted slightly, moving closer, his eyes dropping to Nick's lips.
"Much better," Charlie whispered, his voice low as he leaned in.
Their lips met, soft at first, testing the waters as they often did. But it quickly became clear that they were both on the same page tonight. The kiss deepened, and Nick's hand found its way to the back of Charlie's neck, pulling him closer.
Just as they were beginning to lose themselves in the kiss, the front door burst open, the sound echoing through the house. They broke apart with a start, both turning to see who it was.
"Nick! Charlie!" came a loud, familiar voice. It was David, Nick's older brother, back much earlier than expected. He was stomping off snow from his boots and shaking his jacket free of ice.
"David?" Nick said, trying to keep the irritation out of his voice as he untangled himself from Charlie and sat up. "What are you doing here? I thought you were out with friends."
"Yeah, I was, but we got kicked out of the pub because of some idiot throwing a pint. Anyway, they all wanted to go somewhere else, but I wasn't feeling it, so I figured I'd just come back home," David explained, oblivious to the tension he'd interrupted. He dropped his coat on the chair and collapsed into an armchair across from them, looking exhausted.
Nick forced a smile, but he could feel Charlie's disappointment radiating off him. "Great timing," Nick muttered under his breath, but David didn't catch it.
David seemed content to stay and chat, and Nick and Charlie exchanged a glance, their plans for the evening clearly derailed. After a few minutes of half-hearted conversation, Nick nudged Charlie. "Let's go upstairs. I promised I'd show Charlie something in my room."
David waved them off without much thought, too tired to question it. They both hurried upstairs, trying to reclaim the mood they'd been in just moments before.
Once inside Nick's room, Charlie flopped onto the bed with a sigh. "Of all the times David could come home early..."
Nick chuckled as he joined him, lying down beside him. "It's like the universe is conspiring against us."
Charlie turned onto his side to face Nick, his expression softening. "Well, we're alone now."
Nick's heart gave a little leap at the look Charlie was giving him. He reached out, cupping Charlie's cheek, his thumb brushing lightly over his skin. "Yeah, we are," he murmured before leaning in for another kiss.
This time, they didn't hold back. The kiss was slow and deep, their bodies moving closer as they fell into each other. Nick could feel the warmth of Charlie's skin beneath his hands, the familiar weight of him pressed against his side. It felt so right, like this was where they were meant to be.
They were just starting to really lose themselves in the moment when a loud crash echoed from downstairs, followed by a string of curses from David.
Nick groaned, pulling away reluctantly. "What now?"
"I'll go check," Charlie offered, sitting up with a sigh. Nick grabbed his hand to stop him.
"No, it's okay, I'll handle it," Nick said, forcing himself to get off the bed. "I'll be right back."
Charlie nodded, watching him go with a small, resigned smile.
Downstairs, Nick found David in the kitchen, attempting to clean up a mess of broken glass on the floor. "What happened?" Nick asked, trying to keep the irritation out of his voice.
David looked up sheepishly. "I dropped a glass. It just slipped out of my hand. Sorry, man, I didn't mean to disturb you guys."
Nick sighed, grabbing a broom to help him. "It's fine. Just... try not to break anything else, okay?"
Once the mess was cleaned up, Nick hurried back upstairs, determined to pick up where they left off. But when he got back to his room, he found Charlie sitting up on the bed, scrolling through his phone.
"Everything okay?" Charlie asked, glancing up with a hint of a smile.
"Yeah, just clumsy David," Nick said, rolling his eyes. He sat down next to Charlie, leaning in to nuzzle his neck. "Now, where were we?"
Charlie chuckled, putting his phone aside. "I think we were right about here." He leaned in, capturing Nick's lips once more.
They quickly fell back into their rhythm, the outside world fading away as they focused solely on each other. Nick's hands roamed over Charlie's back, pulling him closer, deepening the kiss.
And then, just as they were starting to really heat up, Nick's phone buzzed loudly on the bedside table.
"Seriously?" Nick muttered, pulling away again. He grabbed his phone, intending to silence it, but the name on the screen caught his eye. It was his mom.
Charlie noticed the look on his face. "You should probably answer that," he said with a sigh.
Nick nodded, reluctantly picking up the call. "Hey, Mom. Everything okay?"
His mother's voice was cheerful on the other end. "Hi, Nick! Just checking in to see how everything's going. David texted earlier that he's homeâhope he's not bothering you too much."
Nick glanced over at Charlie, who was giving him a sympathetic smile. "No, it's fine. We're just hanging out. How's the trip?"
As his mom launched into a detailed description of their day, Nick did his best to sound interested, though his mind was still on the kiss they'd been interrupted from. After a few minutes, she finally wrapped up the call, and Nick quickly hung up, tossing the phone back onto the table.
"Parents," he said with a shrug, trying to lighten the mood.
Charlie laughed softly. "I get it. My mom does the same thing."
Nick leaned back on the bed, pulling Charlie down with him. "Okay, no more interruptions," he said, his voice firm. "I swear."
Charlie grinned, leaning down to kiss him again. "I'll hold you to that."
They picked up where they'd left off, the kiss growing more intense as the minutes passed. Nick's hands slid under Charlie's shirt, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath his fingers. Charlie responded in kind, his own hands tracing the lines of Nick's chest.
Just as they were starting to lose themselves again, a loud knock came at the bedroom door. Nick and Charlie froze, their hearts sinking.
"Nick? Are you in there?" David's voice came through the door, sounding urgent.
Nick groaned, burying his face in his hands. "What now?"
"Just ignore him," Charlie whispered, but Nick could hear the hesitation in his voice.
"Nick, seriously, I need your help with something," David called again, sounding more insistent.
Nick sighed, sitting up. "I'll be right back," he muttered to Charlie, who gave him an apologetic look.
Outside the bedroom, David was standing in the hallway, looking anxious. "Sorry to bother you, but I think something's wrong with the heating. It's getting really cold downstairs, and I don't know how to fix it."
Nick bit back another groan, following David downstairs to the thermostat. Sure enough, the temperature was dropping steadily, and the heater was making an odd clicking noise.
"I'll take a look at it," Nick said, resigning himself to yet another interruption.
It took nearly half an hour to figure out what was wrong with the heater and get it working again. By the time Nick returned to his room, he was feeling more frustrated than ever. But when he saw Charlie waiting for him, the frustration melted away.
"Did you save the day?" Charlie asked with a grin.
"Yeah, but at this rate, we'll never get any time alone," Nick said, flopping onto the bed beside Charlie.
Charlie leaned in, pressing a kiss to Nick's cheek. "We'll get there. Maybe the universe is just testing us."
Nick laughed softly, turning to capture Charlie's lips in a kiss once more. "Well, I'm done being tested."
Charlie's smile was soft as he kissed Nick back. Their eyes met, they leaned in, lips brushing together softly at first. The kiss deepened quickly, the world around them falling away as they lost themselves in each other. Nick's hand found its way to the back of Charlie's neck, his fingers tangling in his hair, drawing him even closer.
Charlie responded by shifting in Nick's lap, pressing himself against him, their bodies fitting together perfectly. The warmth of the kiss spread through them, driving away the chill of the winter night outside. Every touch, every breath was filled with a need that had been building for days, and they let it carry them away, both of them wanting to stay in this moment for as long as they could.
