Chapter 11 of 20

XI: Marco, the One Who Survived

Till the End430 words~3 min read

Night had fallen, and Marco and I were emerging from the cave.

“Marco, how did you get that scar?” I asked.

“In South Africa, years ago. That’s where the Great Whites have their largest colony. The most dangerous hunters of them all live there. I was with the other dolphins when suddenly, I saw one charging at us. Before I could react, he grabbed me by the snout.

Dazed from the blow and the blood I was losing, I couldn’t fight back. But luckily, my friends began ramming the shark with their snouts. Eventually, he let go and swam away. They rushed me to Dyoog, the sea elephant healer, south of Cape Town.

He took care of me for quite a while. The scar remained, but it made me stronger.”

The attack on Marco, and his survival, reminded me of the deadly attack that took Sergio’s life.

If only he had lived, even with a scar like Marco’s…

“Marco, how will I transform into the Great White?”

“Good question! Just a small cut on your hand with something sharp. That will be enough. Now, I’ll leave you here, Lef. We’ll meet again soon. If you need me before then, take this large shell. Blow into it over the water, and I’ll hear it. Until next time!”

With a powerful dive, he vanished beneath the waves.

I took the boat and returned to the huts. My sister was waiting for me, and I told her everything—what I saw, what I heard.

“So, will you come with me on this journey? You can still change your mind,” I said.

“Till the end!” she replied.

I gave her the DNA of the Mako shark and explained how to use it.

The next morning, I decided to go alone to a nearby beach—to test the power of the Great White that now lived within me.

I dove into the water and made a small cut on my palm with a knife.

Immediately, I felt the change: gills forming on my neck, a tail and fins growing—I was turning into a Great White Shark.

It was the strangest sensation I had ever felt.

As I swam through the sea in my new form, able to reach deeper waters than ever before, I saw something—something I’d secretly been hoping for.

Another Great White.

Could it be him? The one who killed Sergio?

Without hesitation, I decided to attack.

What will happen in this fateful encounter?

To be continued…
