Chapter 3 of 25

6 | Shapeshifter

A/n: This chapter is based on Season 1 episode 6 from your point of view.

Does mention trigger scenes like assault.

Three months later

You ring the bell and wait. A blonde-haired woman opens the door and exclaims when she sees you.

"Y/n! I'm so glad you came!" She envelopes you in a hug and you chuckle.

"Yeah, it's been a while, hasn't it?" You look at Rebecca. She had been yours and Sam's friend when you were here. Even though you two weren't that close, you planned on visiting her since you were meeting Maddie and Hailey too.

She beckons you to follow her into the house and she ushers you into the living room.

"So, how have things been?" You ask as you settle into the couch.

She looks at you for a moment before settling into the couch herself and facing you.

"Bad."

You frown, but before you can ask, she continues.

"Zach was suspected of murdering his girlfriend. And now he's in jail."

The news hits you like whiplash and you cover your mouth. You knew Zach. To imagine he would do such a thing..."Oh my god."

You scoot towards the girl and hug her.

"I'm so sorry, honey."

"And Zach didn't even do it. He was here with me, drinking until like midnight."

"What was her time of death?"

"Around ten." She looks up at you and sniffs. "She was tortured, Y/n. She was tied to a chair and beaten up."

You hug Becca closer and calm her down while downing the information yourself.  Tortured? Zach was the kindest, happiest guy you knew. How could he...

The doorbell suddenly rings. You get up and look at Becca, gesturing for her to continue sitting. As you walk towards the door, you straighten up the outfit you were wearing; a maroon V-neck with faded jeans and sneakers.

You swing the door open and you feel your jaw drop.

Right on the doorstep were Sam and Dean, as surprised as you were seeing them.

~

The whole while Sam and Becca were talking, you stared daggers at him. Becca had looked over at you worriedly and Dean had tried talking to you but you dismissed the both of them and continued looking at Sam. Sam had yet not looked in your direction or tried to talk to you.

The bastard left you to wallow in your grief of losing two of your best friends and then shows up months later acting as if nothing happened.

Maybe I'm being selfish but he could have stayed. He could have-

You stop your mind from running off the topic.

He left you. And that's all that happened. Nothing that he could say would justify his departure.

After asking Becca a few questions, they make a plan to head to the crime scene. Apparently, Dean was a cop. So being a car parts trader had to be a side business of sorts?

You look at Dean curiously. He catches you staring and you look away, feeling your cheeks heat up.

Sam finally faces you and speaks. "Will you join us, Y/n?"

You look at Rebecca as she tries to figure out what happened between the two of you.

"Yeah." You answer shortly, determined to avoid Sam's eyes.

He scoffs at your short answer and looks around. "Well then. Let's go."

~~

After visiting the horrific crime scene, you made your way to the motel you were temporarily staying in during your visit to your old school.

You had sent your portfolio to Nat Geo and they had set up an interview for an internship for you in Cali. That was also part of the reason why you came to California.

As you made your way to your motel room, you noticed a black Impala pulling up in the motel's parking. You groan inwardly and stand there as you see Dean and Sam get out of the vehicle. They were in deep conversation.

When Sam notices you and waves, you turn around and walk quickly into your room and lock the door. You don't know why, but Sam just seemed different. And you could hold a massive grudge against somebody.

You were mad at Sam for leaving and for three months you held a grudge against him. For not returning your calls or visiting you.

Hell! He visited Rebecca. Rebecca of all people!

You guys were clearly on bad terms right now. He wasn't your friend anymore. You guys were... acquaintances. People who were friends and now...

You gasp when you hear a knock on your door.

"Y/n, open the door."

The hint of a Texan accent.

You turn around and open the door, revealing the six-foot-something man at your door. You had to tilt your head up to look at him, much like how you had, to look at Sam.

"What do you want, Dean?" You sigh as you push the door further to let him enter.

"I.. just wanted to talk."

You shut the door and turn towards Dean who's examining your room.

"Where's Sam?" You cross your arms above your chest.

"He thought that it would be best that he didn't come. Rebecca and I weren't the only ones who noticed you were staring daggers at him."

"No, I wasn't."

"Yes, you were, sweetheart."

You feel yourself fluster at his nickname for you and stutter.

"That's- I mean.. so what? He deserved it!"

"Y/n..." Dean trails off as he walks closer to you.

"You can't really say that," he continues.

"Why can't I?" You snap at him and feel guilty immediately. He didn't deserve to have your anger taken out on him.

"These past months.. he's been hurting. He just needed time."

"I lost two of my best friends in a night, Dean. I thought Sam died in that fire at first but he might as well as considering how he's completely gone off the grid and hasn't been responding to me!"

He works his jaw and looks away. You clearly struck a nerve with him- bringing up the fire.

He sighs and breaks the silence.

"All I'm trying to say is, even he lost two important people of his life that night. Just like you. You know Sammy. You know how shitty he's feeling right now." He pauses when you scoff. "So just... cut him some slack."

He pats your shoulder awkwardly when you refuse to meet his eyes and he walks out of your motel room, shutting the door on his way out.

The day of your interview

You rub your sweaty palms against the black pencil skirt you wore. Your legs shift under the coffee table of the small café the interview was to be held at.

If you got this internship...

You would prove your parents wrong. You would finally be doing something you wanted to do.

A woman approaches you and asks whether you were Y/n Y/l/n. You stand up and force a smile onto your face as your heart beat rapidly in your chest.

"Let's get started, then," she says after introducing herself too and settling down into her seat.

~~

"It was really good!" You exclaim to Rebecca.

Since you didn't have anybody else to celebrate the good news with ( Maddie and Hailey had a test the next day), you went to Rebecca's house and we're glad that you saw her there. Surprisingly, you were glad that it was here you were celebrating with. You both had gotten rather close during your stay.

Rebecca chuckles and brings you a bottle of beer as she sits on the couch next to you.

You both had been talking when Rebecca's phone starts ringing.

"Hello?"

She frowns at what's being told to her and after a minute she finally disconnects the call.

"That was Rachel. Ross just broke up with her."

"Oh my god! I thought-"

"Yeah, me too. Anyways, she's having a breakdown." Rebecca gets up and sets her beer down on the table. "So I better go comfort her. You can stay and chill here for a while."

You almost deny it but not staying in a motel room was a sweet deal.

"Yeah, I think I'll stay."

"Ok, just lock the door when you leave."

You walk Becca to the door and shut it. After that, you just chilled in front of the fireplace and drank your beer. Maybe she wouldn't mind if you spent the night.

You hear someone knock on the door and get up. You hesitate. No one would come this late at night and Rebecca wouldn't have come this early.

You make your way to the foyer. On the way, you notice how the lights were only switched on in the living room; where you were sitting. You hated it when a house was dark. Whenever you were at your parents' house and alone, you would always switch on all the lights of the house. Call it a fear of darkness, but it always made you squirm when you were in dark enclosed spaces.

You open the door and there stood Dean. You were a bit surprised to see him. And by his expression, as was he.

"Y/n! What are you doing here?"

"Oh, I was just hanging out with Rebecca. She's not here right now though. Did you want to meet her?"

Dean hesitates in answering but speaks again. "No. I wanted to meet you. Sam told me you might be here." He gives you a charming smile.

"Oh ok." You hesitate. "Do you want to come in?"

"Yeah, of course."

He continues smiling as you open the door a bit further, letting him in.

~

"So you're saying that there's something out there that made itself look like Zach. A Shapeshifter?"

Currently, you and Dean were sitting in front of the fireplace of the living room, drinking beers.

Dean hums in agreement. You look at him incredulously.

"Does Sam know about you knowing about all this?"

Dean chuckles.

"You think about him when you're with me, too?"

You feel your cheeks flush and you turn to take a swig of your beer.

"No. He's just- I care about Sam a lot. And with what's happened, finding out that his brother is crazy might be a bit too much."

Dean just smirks and drinks his beer.

"So, how is he? Does he at least mention me, once in a while?" you ask, hoping to sound sarcastic but it comes out as pathetic really. He's one of the only people who knows everything about you and you've missed him. You've missed Jess. To lose two people so important to you immediately was a change you couldn't bear.

Dean looks at you again and shrugs.

"No, he doesn't."

You bite on your lip and nod.

After a moment, you look back at him and chuckle. You always do that as a defence mechanism against awkward situations.

"A Shapeshifter is a pretty good excuse."

"Well, then how could Zach be at two places at once?"

"Maybe he wasn't. Maybe he did commit the crime."

"Let me tell you, it's very real."

You raise your eyebrows and take a swig.

"So, it's like a genetic freak?"

Dean chuckles and looks at you. You knew something was wrong the minute you looked at him. The way he held his body or the way he talked was just...off.

"Maybe. Evolution is about mutation, right? So maybe this thing was born human but was different. Hideous and hated. Until he learned to become someone else."

You frown at what he said, knowing that something was definitely off.

"It's funny," Dean continues speaking. "I kind of understand him. Alone. Close to no one. All he wants is for someone to love him. He's like me."

He looks at me and smiles. You look away, feeling uncomfortable.

"Everyone needs a little human touch now and then. It's so hard to be different." His voice was low and raspy. He raises his hand and pushes your hair back.

"Dean, come on." You pull your head away from his hand and look at him. "You're weirding me out. What's wrong?"

He looks into your brown eyes and you could swear you saw something change in his demeanour but he just leans into you. "I'm just continuing where we left off the night Jess died," he whispers.

It's like a bucket of cold water is immediately thrown over your head and you move your head back again. "What are you talking about? How dare you bring that up right now?"

He leans into your ear and you let him, giving him the benefit of doubt. He whispers some very, very disgusting things to you about what he would do to you, no matter if you liked it or not.

You couldn't take it anymore.

"Dean! What is wrong with you? You're disgusting!"

You stand up and move away from the couch. "I'm calling Sam."

Dean stands up and stalks towards you. "Oh, he's not gonna pick up. You see, Y/n, I have this is planned out."

You walk across the room towards the phone. You dial Sam's number; you had memorized like your own.

You suddenly feel strong arms encircle your waist and yank you from the phone. You try to shout into the phone when you hear Sam's voice.

"Dean! Let me go!"

He pulls you back and chucks you on the couch savagely and climbs on top of you. You try to resist but he pins your hands above your head.

Act along. Get them to trust you. And stall them. Then you can use their trust and ram it where the sun don't shine. That's what one of your teacher's had said when the topic of assault came up in class.

You don't say anything and looked into his eyes. The drama classes you took better be worth it.

"Dean." You breathe out, trying to sound breathless. Hell, you were breathless. You were scared AF.

"Shut up!" He snarls and looks back at you.

"You don't know how much I've wanted this. How much I've wanted you." You breathe, resisting the urge to knee him in his crotch.

He wavers from tying your wrists with rope and looks down at you.

"What?" His voice is rough with anger and confusion.

You feel sick doing this but it had to be done, didn't it.

You reluctantly kiss his cheek.

"What... are you doing?!" He pushes you back, but his snarl wasn't as nasty as before.

"Baby, I'm giving you what you want. I'm giving you...a bit of human touch." You recite his earlier words as you whisper in his ear. Maybe you were coming off a bit too strong but if this guy had compared himself to the Shapeshifter and told they were the same then-

What the...

You feel a bulb go off in your head while Dean or the shapeshifter kissed your neck roughly.

"You're the Shapeshifter, aren't you?" You whisper. He looks up at you. You get surprised at his expression.

He was shocked, but you could see that he was scared as well. You could see the fear in his eyes.

Hell, you weren't even sure if it was a he.

"So, what are you going to do about it?"

"I'm sorry." You say abruptly, trying to act sad for the sorry son of the bitch.

"What?" He snarls.

"What you had to go through. No one deserves to go through that."

He looks down at you right when you're about to take advantage of his hesitation and he elbows your head. Hard enough to knock you out.

~

"Y/n! Get up!"

You feel like a thousand bricks fell on your head.

"What's going on?"

You look down through your blurry vision and see a man in front of you, untying you from a chair. Your head throbbed and you were pretty sure it was going to blast. When your vision cleared you saw the green eyes.

"Get away from me, you Shapeshifter bitch!"

It seems startled when you insult it but continues untying the ropes that bound your hands and legs to the chair.

"Listen, Y/n. It's me, Dean, ok? Don't worry. We killed that evil son of a bitch."

"Prove it." You snarl as he finally removes the ropes and steps back.

"I first met you when Sam and I came back from our trip and you were going to take a picture of me in front of my Impala but we got interrupted by-"

"Yeah, okay. I get it." You interrupt him; not wanting to get those memories in your head right now. You try walking and fall instantly to the ground.

"Y/n, chill. That dude messed you up pretty bad. Let me help you." He kneels down and helps you get up.

"Though he didn't hurt you that bad except for maybe punching you once and twisting your ankle. Oh, and there's a bruise on your neck. The other vics... He beat them up bloody. Why-"

"I, uh- may have seduced him."

Dean looked as if you had told him that you were an octopus and you were showing him your other four limbs. So, he looked disgusted and surprised.

"You... seduced him. Or, it. Why would you do that?"

"Well, I thought that it was you."

You see Dean smirk but blush at the same time and you start stuttering.

"Oh, I didn't mean it like that- come on! I just- it wasn't-"

"Y/n!"

You turn around and notice that Dean had led you out of the house and in front of the Impala where Sam was standing. As if on instinct, you unlatched yourself from Dean and fell into Sam's arms and hugged him tightly.

"What the hell is going on, Sam?"

He holds you tightly as he whispers reassurances in your ear. You melt into the hug and before you knew, exhaustion had taken over you and you fell out of his grip.

~~

After you had woken up after the whole incident, you saw Sam and Dean hovering over your bed.

Being...well, you, you punched Sam in the nose thinking that he was an intruder or something.

And now, you guys are sitting in their motel room, Sam with an icepack on his nose and Dean gorging down a burger he got himself for lunch. They explained everything about what they did. The hunting trip, Jessica's death, their mom's death, and their dad's obsession for killing demons.

You had asked them what was to happen to Zach and Rebecca. Apparently, they had called the cops and registered a breaking and entering. They took you away and the cops only saw the blood and the Shapeshifter's dead body. They thought that the tapes that had recorded Zach outside his apartment were tampered with and the true killer was one named Dean Winchester.

You looked at Sam the whole time. He kept this secret from you and you didn't even know. The weight of everything going on.

After their explanation, you look at Dean and ask him to excuse you and Sam. He was reluctant but he gets up and leaves the room.

"Sam..." You fold your arms above your chest and look at him, unable to get any words out. You blamed him all this time. You still do, but for different reasons.

"Y/n, I don't expect you to look at me the same way after all this. Credit card fraud, killing demons. Honestly, I'm surprised you want to talk to me."

You chuckle and feel the tears threaten to flow.

"Sam Winchester. You aren't getting rid of me that easy."

He chuckles and puts the ice pack away.

"So, are you going to hunt the son of the bitch that killed Jess?"

"Yeah, we're on it."

You lean back in your chair and look at him.

"Then, count me in."

[End of episode 6 | Shapeshifter]

A/n: Hey guys!!

I hope you're enjoying the writing. Maybe it's just me but I see a few flaws in the storyline but I am planning to improve it!

This chapter again is... Humungous! (Is that even the right spelling? Eh, I'm to lazy to check)

I'm trying to cut it short but ┐( ˘_˘)┌

Anyways... I hope you guys have a good day!
