Abhijeet's POV
The room was silent except for the faint sound of her breathing. The doctor entered, his expression calm.
"She is fine, Hukum," he said reassuringly after checking her.
"Then why the hell did she faint?" I demanded, my voice thick with concern.
"Perhaps she was exhausted or under too much stress. Let her rest for now," he replied gently before leaving.
I sat beside her, staring at her peaceful face. My heart felt heavy with guilt, a question gnawing at me: Am I worthy of her forgiveness?
Unable to resist, I reached out and caressed her forehead tenderly. Leaning in, I placed a soft kiss on her skin, as if it could somehow convey the apologies I couldn't yet voice.
The hours ticked by, and before I knew it, midnight had come. Yet, I couldn't bring myself to leave her side, not even for a moment. Fear gripped me-a deep, irrational fear that if I left, she might vanish, slipping through my fingers like sand.
Tears welled in my eyes as memories of my failures flooded back. I had hurt her, abandoned her when she needed me most. The weight of my mistakes was unbearable. She bore so much because of me. I'll spend my lifetime making it right, even if it means begging for her forgiveness every single day.
The night dragged on, and exhaustion threatened to pull me under, but I forced myself to stay awake. The mere thought of losing her again was enough to jolt me upright. Sleep was a luxury I couldn't afford-not now, not ever.
Author's POV
Morning light filtered through the room as Siya stirred awake. Her eyes fluttered open, and the first thing she saw was Abhijeet sitting beside her. His face was a portrait of remorse and love, his eyes red from sleeplessness.
But Siya's heart had built walls around itself, and trust was a distant memory.
She sat up abruptly. "Where is Aarya? And why am I here? Why did you bring me back to this palace?" she demanded, her voice laced with anger.
"Siya, please," Abhijeet began, his voice pleading. "Aarya is fine; she's with Abhimaan. You fainted yesterday, and I brought you here for your safety. Please... just listen to me once. That's all I ask. After that, you can decide whatever you want."
"Decide?" Siya's voice broke, her pain spilling out. "How many times do I have to tell you? Siya died. She died!"
"Please, Siya, don't say that!" Abhijeet fell to his knees, his voice trembling with desperation. "I... I won't be able to live without you. I'll die if you leave me again. Please..."
She stared at him, her expression hard. "Why does it matter to you now? You left me to die in that hellhole. Why didn't you care then?"
"I... I love you, Siya," he whispered, his voice barely audible, as if the weight of those words was crushing him.
For a moment, Siya froze. Those words-words she had longed to hear from him once upon a time-pierced her heart. But now, they felt hollow. It was too late.
"B-but I don't," she whispered, turning away, her voice cracking under the weight of her own emotions.
"Then say it while looking into my eyes," he challenged softly.
Her gaze met his, and memories flooded her mind. She remembered the times he had cherished her, loved her. But those memories were quickly overshadowed by the dark ones-the pain, the betrayal, the moment he had sold her off.
"I... I can't," she whispered, her tears threatening to fall.
"Why, Siya? If you hate me, then why can't you just say it?" Abhijeet asked, his voice raw with emotion.
"Because I hate myself for loving you!" she cried, her voice breaking as she collapsed to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably.
Abhijeet reached out, his voice cracking. "Siya, please... everyone deserves a chance. Just give me one. Please."
Her sobs grew louder. "What do you want from me? Do you want me to forget everything? Do you want me to act like nothing happened? You made my life a living hell! I wished for death just to escape the torment. I waited for you-I hoped you would come and save me. But you never came..."
Tears streamed down her face as she choked on her words.
"Siya, I never abandoned you. I never betrayed you," Abhijeet said, his voice breaking as he confessed. "I kept searching for you, but when I returned, you were gone. All I found was a note saying our marriage suffocated you and that you loved someone else. And then I heard about the fire at the kotha and found your belongings... That day, Abhi died too, Siya. I died."
His words hung heavy in the air, and Siya's world seemed to stop. Part of her wanted to believe him, but the wounds in her heart screamed otherwise.
"What about the marriage? The news that you married someone else?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
"That marriage was fake," Abhijeet explained, his eyes desperate for her to believe him. "I sent letters, called for you, but none of it reached you. I told Dadi Sa to inform you, but you were already gone. I never wanted to hurt you, Siya."
Siya sat frozen, her mind reeling. Her heart begged her to trust him, but her scars held her back.
"Please, Siya," Abhijeet begged. "Punish me if you want-do whatever you need to. But just give me one chance. Let me heal what I've broken."
"How will you heal it, Abhijeet?" she asked, her voice trembling. "The wounds you can see may heal, but what about the ones inside?"
"I will, Siya," he said, his voice full of conviction. "Love can heal everything. I promise."
Siya looked at him, her silence speaking volumes. Part of her wanted to trust him, but the pain of the past loomed over her like a dark shadow.
Abhijeet whispered, "Siya... please."
She closed her eyes, torn between love and pain, hope and despair.
What do you think? Will Siya forgive Abhijeet, or will she leave?
