Morning came and Chaeyoung woke up from a deep sleep. If not for her alarm, she would love to continue dreaming of her childhood. She checked her phone first if there were messages. Surprisingly, there is one and it came from a certain penguin. It only greets her good morning.
Smiling at the simple but appreciated text, she dialed the number. It's still early and she doubt that Mina is busy at the moment.
"What?"
She chuckled at the same response.
"Good Morning chingu~" She greeted in aegyo. Oh I think I know what she's going to say.
"I'm hanging up-"
She giggled hearing the exact same words she predicted. She's so cute.
"Did you eat breakfast?" She asked normally to stop the girl from hanging up. Mina made a pause before answering her question.
"Yeah and you?" Her tone is still the same even in a call. Well now that I thought about it, it's kinda cool, charismatic or something?
"I just woke up. I miss you here. No one cooks for my breakfast now." She pouted. Mina can't see it but she guessed the girl did. Frowning at the image in her mind...
"Should I go there and cook for you?"
Her question made Chaeyoung's heart leap a beat. She knew the girl didn't mean it in any other way and was just asking out of concern but she can't help but blush at the thoughtfulness. Argh! why are you so clueless?! It's early and you are making me crazy! She laid back on the bed and roll around. Mina has that effect to her.
"Hello?" Mina asked when there's no response.
"I-I'm fine. I can cook too." She answered but on reality she's trying not to squeal.
"Hmm okay are you going to work today?"
She's inhaledto calm her tense self and be casual again.
"Yeah when will you be back? Please inform me first if you will so that I can cook." She smiled imagining the scenario in her head. Aw that will be good too.
"I can cook for us though." She answered cluelessly. Chaeyoung has to stiffen her soft heart from that retort. Ahh I'm going to die.
"You will? That's so sweet of you." She cooed.
"There you go again." She heard Mina sigh from the other line. Chae giggled from the reaction.
"It's just your so cute." She chuckled. "When you come back let's have a date!" She suggested. It was supposed to be a joke to tease the girl again but seconds of silence before Mina replied...
"Okay let's do that." She answered nonchalantly. Chaeyoung's world stops. Her brain seems to malfunction from that. She look so stuck up like a thunder hits her into paralysis. Did she just...
"HA?!"
"What? you don't wan-"
"I definitely want to!" She replied immediately. No taking back!
"O-kay." Mina found her reaction weird.
"That's a deal then." She happily said. She can't wipe away the wide grin on her face. I should probably plan that thoroughly.
"Yeah" She simply answered.
"Okay! I need to go get ready for work. Have a nice day chingu". She cheerfully cooed and ended the call. Mina has to blink and confusedly stare at the phone. She agreed to the date because she thought she really need a break after this.
What's up with her?
...
Chaeyoung's day continued with a bright smile from her. The employees has their smiles too, seeing that one of their boss is in the good mood. Jeongyeon noticed it too when she invited the younger one for lunch together. The three girls are on leave for important matter leaving only the two of them in company.
"Where should we eat?" Jeong asked. They are on their way out of the company.
"I don't know. Should we invite someone to decide?" Chae looked at her cluelessly.
"Oh Akira told me she would like to try the food around, should I call her?"
"Sure she's pretty fun to hang out with." Chae agreed.
"She is." They both shared a smile remembering the same girl. Jeong called Akira for lunch and the girl is more than happy to come. She even sound like she was too bored before they called. They decided to meet at the need restaurant.
"Yo!" Akira came and waved at them from the entrance. They both replied with a wave and a smile. She approached them with a wide grin.
"Good timing Jeongie I'm starving." She exclaimed seeing the food in the table. They ordered first and not just for one person but it's fiest.
"Woah so many foods." Her eyes seems to twinkle from the amount of variety foods in front of her. Chaeyoung chuckled at her reaction.
"Let's eat before you melt the food with you stare." She giggled and Akira nodded in agreement. They all shared smiles.
"Itadakimasu~" Akira said before digging on her food. They talked about nonsense things while eating. A question and answer to be exact since the cousins and the girl barely knows each other.
"So you just came here in Korea for business?" Jeong asked.
"Yes we have some kind of a deal here." She answered while still munching the food.
"Your korean is fluent and you don't sound like a japanese at all." Chaeng noticed. Now that we talked about that, Mina is fluent with it too. Is it a thing for japanese these days?
"My biological parents are koreans but I was adopted when I was eight. I'm not just fluent with korean, I can speak chinese, french, german, spanish, thai and english too." She cheerfully said.
"Woah must be smart." Jeong praised in amazement.
"Ani it's a thing in my place to know different languages." She shrugged.
"Chaeng knows different languages too. She's called the genius in our class along with our other friend." Jeong smirked at Chae. The smaller girl frowned to her unnie.
"I'm not. It just happened that I like to study." She snorted.
"Being humble to us would get you nowhere. Right Aki?" Jeong nudge the girl on her left. The girl hums in agreement and thumbs up. She's busy eating.
"Tsk not my fault that you cut classes back in the days unnie." she smirked. Jeong snickered and gave her a playful glare.
"Yah school is more fun with that." She defended.
"School?" Akira eyed the two of them curiously.
"Yeah school don't tell me you haven't gone to school before?" Jeong looked at her smiling not expecting for the girl to nod. Her smile slowly faded, she shared a look with Chaeng before turning back at Aki to confirm it.
"Really? Why? I mean it's..." She blinked in confusion. Akira doesn't look like someone who did not go to school, in fact she looked smart.
"Those people who adopted me said it's not necessary. They can just give me books and then I can learn." She answered, not really caring why the other person is looking at her with a hint of pity.
"I see."
Silence.
"Uhm did I said something to make you guys upset?" Akira looked at them worriedly. It's not that they are upset, it was just a little bit sad to think.
"No!- I mean no you did not but aren't you feeling a little sad about that?" Chae asked her carefully. Afraid that she might offend the girl.
"No and why would I? I am happy." She smiled. "I have friends now." She continued while having that known look. A smile broke from the two girls. Aw this girl is just too precious. Jeong thought.
"Of course you have us!" She cheered. The lively conversation continued until the foods in their table emptied out. Jeong has her jaw dropped seeing how Akira could eat all of it. She thought she ordered too much but it looks like she did the right thing.
"How about we go for a little walk in the park?" Jeong suggested. Looking at the time they still have plenty of it. They agreed to continue hanging out on the bench in front of the playground. The three found themselves talking comfortably about different things.
"There's an ice cream." Akira has her eyes fixed on the ice cream truck.
"Yah I thought you're full already?" Chaeyoung asked.
"But it's a dessert." She grins looked at them with puppy eyes. Jeong let out a chuckle.
"It's okay I do want to have some too. What flavor do you want Chae? and you Aki?" she stood up from the bench.
"Choco mint." Chaeyoung answered.
"Chocolate~" Akira smiled. Jeong nodded and walked towards the ice cream truck nearby. They watched the retreating figure of the woman.
"She's really kind." Akira commented and looked up at the sky.
"She always is." Chaeng agreed with a small smile on her lips too. A second of silence. That was the first time they are left alone together and Chae doesn't know how to continue the conversation.
"Hey wanna listen?" Akira beats her to start another topic. She handed her one ear piece. Chaeyoung took it and a melodic music welcomes her. It's in japanese.
"It's nice." She smiled, liking the beat. It's just right for her taste.
"Right? I love this song. It's sad but gives me comfort too." She melancholy said with a smile in her lips. She has her eyes closed. Seeing that, Chaeyoung closes hers too. Akira might look like she's so happy and cheerful but it's obvious for Chaeyoung to see how lonely this person is. Somehow she remembered Mina on her. The music does reflects her own situation too.
"It is." She softly said. Chaeyoung heard a small giggle on her side but she didn't look. Sure they might look silly if someone sees them. Two girls closing their eyes, smiling and with earphones between the two of them but somehow she doesn't care. It was like she's comfortable enough with the girl to do it.
"If I were to die I want this to play before leaving everything behind." Akira giggled and Chaeyoung took it as a joke.
"Hmm sure I will help you with that." She laughed.
"Don't say that. I hold on to promises." Akira slowly opens her eyes and adjusted to the light. She turned to the girl who still has her eyes closed.
"I don't break promises." She answered, confidently.
"Then it's a promise." She hold out her pinky. Chaeyoung felt the movement beside her and opened her eyes only to meet a pinky finger in front of her. She chuckled seeing the antics.
"Hai yakusoku." They made a pinky promise. Looking at their intertwined fingers, Chaeyoung burst out laughing. Gosh, we're both in our twenties. Akira laughed with her too.
"What's happening here?" Jeong came with three ice creams in hands. She looked at the two of them cluelessly.
"Nothing." Chaeyoung giggled.
"Himitsu." Akira winked. Making Jeongyeon deadpan.
"Then no ice cream for the two of you." She huffs and started walking away.
"What?! Yah Jeongie!!" Akira ran after her. Chae just laughed at the childishness of her cousin.
It's good to have a new friend around.
...
"Did you know who killed the two of them?"Â A man with thick glasses and white coat was looking at the room divided by a thick layer of glass. There, an experiment is being held.
"Sir it's her." The woman in suite answered.
"Good. I need to lure her out. Gather information about Son Chaeyoung."Â He smiled at her reflection.
"What about the team you sent?"
"I doubt they're good enough for the job. We already saw how strong she is. There would be a possibility that they will retaliate. Exterminate if needed."Â He waved his hand and the girl bowed before finally leaving the room. In front is a girl with a very much resemblance from a certain witch.
It's almost done.
