This particular night me and some buddies were hanging out. One got piss drunk so my other buddy and I were taking care of him. It was around 3 am when we decided to leave Denny's and head home. I dropped off the piss drunk friend at his house, and proceeded to drop off my other friend.
Now, my friend lives in one of the shadiest parts of our town. Our drunk friend got mugged in his neighborhood once (a man put a knife to his neck and stole his phone on his birthday). But this night I didn't see anything out of the ordinary as I was dropping him off.
Now, there are two ways I can get to my house. My friend's street is a dead end street since it's next to the train tracks. I could drive back and end up a a street light two blocks from his house. I would then have to turn left and pass by 8 blocks of streetlights. Since this is tedious and time consuming I usually just pull left on the first intersection, a road that leads me through 6 blocks of just houses that has a softball park across the street.
I chose the latter, through the dark roads at this time. About two blocks down, I see two men. Both of them were African American, one on his bike and the other shirtless and with a bike in front of him. The black shirtless man THROWS his bike in the middle of the road, about thirty feet from my car. I was driving kinda fast, but I could see him deliberately throwing the bike in the middle of the road. I had 2 seconds to decide:
A) Run over the bike and take off.
B) Swerve to the right of the bike (there were cars on both sides of the narrow road)
C) Swerve left and run them over.
I chose B, and I narrowly missed the parked car. I got back towards the middle of the road and slammed on the pedal. I knew what they were trying to do: to get me to run over the dudes bike and get me to stop the car and go after them, with me either being mugged or shot/stabbed/attacked/etc. Or have me run over the bike and fuck up with brakes or have me crash. either way, I got home safely, and told my family what happened. Fuck those guys.
