"i'm going to head to see my mom quick" Scott said as a goodbye as he hoped in his car leaving Stiles to take Melody home.

"So uh, Where do you live?" Stiles nervously asked as he started his Jeep cranking the heat as he shivered still went from the pool making Mel shift away from him.

"My uncle lives out by the lake, right off highland drive." Melody sighed strapping in as he pushed the jeep into gear.

"Okay" Stiles muttered.

"So.. Does this kind of thing happen a lot in this town?" Melody asked trying to fill the silence to force her anxiety away.

"Yeah, actually, seems like it's happening more now." Stiles sighed pursing his lips as the jeep rumpled down the road, Melody was surprised the thing was running as well as it was.

"So what did Scott mean by the Argents earlier? That's the principles and Allisons last name right?" Melody quietly asked twisting her necklace.

"The Argents are a family of hunters that live in town, but Allison is a good person, I wouldn't worry about her. Her family though, I'd worry about. You're better off staying away from them if you want to stay out of this but in my experience that doesn't happen." Stiles explained shaking his head as he snuck a peak at the brunette.

"Well it's going to happen with me, I am just here to get through school and leave." Mel replied with an exasperated sigh.

"Well I'm going to fill you in either way just in case." Stiles said precieding to list of everyone and their significance as he drove her home.

•••

"Thank you Stiles, I'll see you at school." Melody waved thankful to have the long ride over with as her head was about to explode with how much information Stiles just threw at her.

Melody waited until Stiles had turned of the driveway out of sight before ducking under the Fence into the woods, silently praying no one woke up when stiles dropped her off.

She felt a little bit bad about lying to Stiles about going home but this was her plan all along. She had told her uncle she was staying at the twins and told the twins she didn't feel like staying over after all so that she could finally get a semi peaceful sleep.

Tonight was exhausting, and she needed this. Well.. what she needed was the ocean but this was the next best thing. She tried putting salt in her bath last night after giving up on sleeping in her bed. It sucked.

Soon enough the lake stepped into view and she broke out into a jog in pure joy at the sight.

It was as if the wind pushed at her heels as she let out a giggle before diving off the dock not even bothering with hiding her phone, it would be fine anyways with her mother's necklace.

Her skin came alive as the water welcomed her and her tail appeared. Fresh water was most certainly different than salt but the mermaid was still welcomed into the natural lake by its inhabitants swimming by her tickling her as they did. That made her think of home and all her sea friends that she barely had a change to say goodbye to before getting forced to move.

Mel took just about over an hour swimming around end exploring before she popped her head out to look at the night sky and for the first time since moving to Beacon Hills, she felt a touch of peace.

The stars at least out here were visible, it was beautiful as she titled her head to the sky.

A branch snapping caught her attention though making her head drop beneath the surface.

"Melody?" A male voice whispered coming from almost over head her making her eyes widen.

"It's okay it's just me, I wanted to talk." The voice said again making her head tilt out of curiosity.

"Damnit Melody it's Derek." He said obviously frustrated she wasn't showing.

If her eyes could widen anymore they would as Melody slowly popped her head out meeting Derek's hunched over form.

"Derek?" She exclaimed softly

"Shit sorry." Derek muttered after almost falling off the dock on her at the shock of her appearance making her giggle since he looked so un-Alpha like.

"I didn't even hear you swim over." Derek muttered clicking his jaw in annoyance.

"Well I certainly heard your clumsy ass. Good to know my hearing is better than yours, What are you doing here and how did you know I'd be here?" Mel laughed before getting serious.

"It's hard to explain, it's like I thought of you and suddenly I was coming here like I knew. My wolf won't shut up and is personally very annoying." Derek exhaled as he sat down on the dock.

"If your here to Convince me to join all this stupid werewolves business, I'll tell you exactly what I told Stiles the whole way home. NO." Melody groaned folding her hands over the dock to look at him.

"No uh, this sounds weird but you reminded me of my sister today and I could tell your anxiety was bad so I wanted to make sure you were okay." Derek sighed

"Oh, well, yeah I'm okay.. I think. I just haven't had anyone outside of my dad know about me or see me like this so it's weird." Melody softly smiled at him before speaking up again. "but thanks for checking on me."

"No problem." Derek smiled starting to get up when she stopped him asking him a question.

"You had a sister?" Mel furrowed her brows at him.

"Yeah, I did. Her name was Cora, she was younger than me and always annoyed me. Funny how you don't know how much you'd miss something until it's gone." Derek softly replied looking up to the stars and back to her.

"Yeah, I know the feeling." Mel said sadly

"Your parents right?" he asked

"Yeah, my step mom and my dad died two months ago. I was inseparable from my dad, he was my best friend." she replied laying her head on her arms

"I'm sorry. If you ever need to talk just let me know." Derek said pulling his mouth into a thin line.

"Hm." Mel muttered frowning at him.

"What?" Derek asked confused at her expression.

"You're not so much of a sour scary wolf now." Mel mumbled.

"Sometimes it's better to let people think of you a certain way then let see everything." Derek shrugged.

"You're not staying out here are you?" Derek added looking to the lake.

"Uh- yeah I am, I kinda made it so it seemed like I was staying with the twins and then bailed to be here. I have trouble sleeping sometimes." She shrugged

"You sure that's a good idea with the kanima?" Derek raised his brows worried.

"It can't swim, remember? Plus this isn't the first time I've slept in the water, I'll be fine." She smiled

"Okay, as long as you're sure, I'll let you get back to your swim, Nice talking with you Little Fish." Derek sighed getting up.

"Nice talking with you too Sour Wolf." Melody grinned before dunking under the water.
