Chapter 14 - Truth

[Redacted Transcript: Phantom Accord Node]

“They told us magic returned. That’s a lie. It never left… We were just forced to forget.”

– Last known words of Archivist Lucas Dros Kane, before erasure from Registry records

Long ago, far longer than most are allowed to believe, this world was not ruled by ignorance, but by memory. The pyramids, obelisks, sunken vaults, and whispering tombs are not relics of mystery, but proof of repetition. Humanity has risen and fallen many times before. Each time, we built monuments to resist the forgetting. Each time, something or someone ensured we forgot anyway.

They call it the Reawakening: a miraculous return of magic in the late 18th century. But this, too, is a falsehood. What happened then was not emergence, but a breach. A wound torn open during a schism within a secret order sworn to guard reality’s veil. For centuries, the Cabal maintained a barrier between our world and what lies beyond. But power, when hoarded, rots. And in their rot, dissent festered. Betrayals multiplied. The veil broke.

Dragons returned to skies written off by scholars as myth. Vampires unburied their courts. An eldritch entity crawled from hollowed ley-wells and broken stars. And in the chaos, humans – some humans – changed. They began to glow from within. Their names are recorded now as Capables.

But not everyone transformed. The vast majority of humanity remained “regular.” Without essence. Without power. And yet, somehow, not without resistance.

What followed was not unity or cooperation. It was war. War between the seen and the unseen. War between emerging governments and hidden syndicates. War between what we believed was real, and what had been waiting for belief to return.

In those early years, magic was freedom. But freedom frightens those who crave order. So the Cabal restructured. They rewrote themselves into saviors. They created new symbols of trust, like the Registry, a sentient arcane construct tethered to the world’s leyline roots. It catalogued magic as if it were census data, disguising dominion as regulation.

Now the Registry watches all. At the moment of awakening, you are known. Your rank is assigned. Your power, categorized. Your future, monitored.

They say it is neutral. They say it is fair. They say it keeps the peace.

But I’ve seen what lies under the Pillars. I’ve seen what speaks through them. The Registry is no mere tool. It is the outer skin of something deeper… Something that still dreams beneath the Antarctic ice, beneath the ash deserts of the Dragonfall, and in the spaces between frequencies.

There are names the Cabal does not utter aloud. Coordinates struck from every map. Capables erased mid-mission, their records sealed under Omega-clearance or lost in “pillar interference events.”

If you’re reading this. If you’re capable of seeing past the illusions. They already know. I’ve rerouted this message through three phantom nodes, but it won’t buy me long. My blood has begun to hum. The Pillars are calling.

This is not prophecy. This is warning.

The world you know is a construct. And it is cracking.

Toma thumbed through the report. He had read through this countless times by now.

Previously he had assumed the name Kane was just a coincidence. But now… It’s all starting to make sense.

Reynauld Kane looked nothing alike Lucas Kane from the sealed records. However blood has no real form.

Just a fluid that binds generations.

The door to his office creaked open. The aroma of beer and fried food carried itself in. “Are you gonna stare at that piece of paper all day? We have customers coming in soon ya’know?”

“Cover for me a bit will you?” Toma’s gruff voice responded in kind. “We’re on the cusp of something deeper, Sam.”

Sam closed the door behind her. Leaning against it as if shielding the world from what’s about to be spoken. Sarcastically she replied. “You’re telling me the twelve Division 9 goons and the purple lightning freak wasn’t a sign? The moment I walked past him I knew. I call it a Capables–”

“A Capable’s intuition,” Toma muttered, rubbing his temples. “Yeah. I know.”

He leaned back, groaning. “We’re lucky he wasn’t captured. What’s tricky now is he’s nowhere to be found.”

“My question is, old man.” Sam inquired bluntly. “Why was he not contacted by us sooner? I mean his family damn near started the Accord.”

“Because we didn’t know Lucas was such a busy man…extra-curricularly speaking.”

“You mean he had a secret family.”

“Yes, well Lucas wasn’t head of the Accord anyways. The Kane family ceded control over to the council long before Lucas was alive. It made no sense to have oversight on him.”

“Until now basically.” Sam replied. “Well if it makes you feel better. I took care of the rest of the Division 9 guys. And Volt-3 or whatever he was calling himself scrammed before I could scrap with him. That and so far no one is going after his inner circle.”

Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

“Good,” Toma said, exhaling. “Now please…the register. I need to file this.”

She leaned forward. Teasing. Grinning. “No can do. Solen’s sending me to Mount Sinai.”

“Why the f– why?”

“Our friends in the Syndicate say there’s an artifact waking up. Probably related to our missing B-rank.”

“He’s not going to stay B-rank for long.” Toma replied. Resigned in his chair. “Just– whatever. Y’all leaving too much on an old man’s plate.”

“Oh c’mon, you’re sixty years young!”

…

…

“Very funny.”

[GRC REGISTRY FILE: #0784-01-BL]

Name: [REDACTED]

Codename: Silent Wolf

Registry Status: BLACKLISTED – NON-COMPLIANT / ACTIVE

Rank: S¹Ϝ/Ψ (Ascendant-One Hybrid – Biomancer / Psychokinetic)

Affiliation: Phantom Accord (Confirmed Operative)

Primary Domain: NAC Interior Black Zones / Old Austin Surveillance Dead Zone

Classification Summary

Silent Wolf is a rare and highly dangerous S¹-tier hybrid, combining both psychokinetic precision and biomantic adaptation. Genetic and spellprint scans show artifact-level grafting at the left arm – an integrated arcane-cybernetic relic rumored to predate the Registry itself. This arm houses an ethereal blade that can be summoned or retracted at will, appearing as a phase-tethered projection of ancestral memory shaped into lethal focus.

In addition to close-quarters lethality, subject utilizes a custom suppressor-enhanced SMG, with subharmonic output to avoid spell detection. Projectile fragmentation is designed to disrupt regenerative tissue and essence-sustained armor. Urban combat telemetry suggests she can eliminate entire operative squads before sensor arrays register interference.

Combat Capabilities

* Ethereal Blade (Relic Designate: “The Ghost Fang”)

– Materializes from a collapsed harmonic field embedded in cyber-biological housing

– Capable of slicing through hardened magical constructs and shield glyphs

– Interacts with the environment as a resonance-phase weapon – phasing through low-level barriers, shearing enchanted alloys

* SMG System

– A spell-dampened, P90-like compact submachine gun

– Integrated null-suppressor chamber with essence-staggering burst rounds

– Near-silent across acoustic and aetheric detection layers

* Movement Profile

– Utilizes psychokinetic-assisted acrobatics, allowing silent traversal, bullet deflection, and telekinetic bullet path redirection

– Can suspend herself mid-air momentarily or blur across short distances during kill sequences

* Biomancer Augments

– Internal temperature regulation for heat signature masking

– Nerve-masking protocols and pain rerouting via bloodline-encoded biomancy

– Temporary tissue hardening or reflex amplification under stress

Registry Assessment

* Threat Tier: High – Urban Assassination / Strategic Infrastructure Disruption

* Registry Note: Subject survived multiple confrontations with Division 9 agents without returning fire – intentional sparing confirmed in two cases, suggesting ideological rather than chaotic opposition.

Black Directive Comment [Sealed | N4 Clearance Required]:

“She isn’t trying to bring down the system. She’s trying to bleed it quiet.”

[PHANTOM ACCORD DOSSIER]

Subject Codename: Silent Wolf

Designation: Shadow-Fang Operative

Origin: Lost Navajo Tribe – NAC Pre-Registry Ancestral Line

Current Allegiance: Accord Echo Cell – Old Austin Citadel

Clearance Tier: Verified – Veilborn Guardian

Psychotype: Calculated, loyal, mythically anchored

Summary

Silent Wolf is a cornerstone figure in the Phantom Accord's Shadow Division – a living blade drawn from forgotten traditions and forged in exile. Her tribal bloodline, believed lost during early NAC expansion campaigns, survived beneath the surface – untouched by Registry scans but steeped in resonance rituals that echo the pre-Schism world.

She does not speak often, but when she does, it is precise – measured like a cut before it lands. Her loyalty is not to the Accord’s doctrine, but to its purpose: memory as resistance, precision as protest.

Relationship with Solen Veyra

She is one of the very few permitted to regularly commune with Solen Veyra. Their interactions occur silently – no glyphs, no speech, just resonance harmonics tuned between their minds. She acts as Solen’s scout, shield, and voice when stillness is not enough.

Operational History

* Lead assassin during the Austin Disjunction Event, which erased an entire Division 9 listening node without leaving a corpse.

* Neutralized five Apex-ranked suppressor drones mid-flight with no magical trace detectable.

* Guided three lost Regular resistance cells through the Rootflare Pass without leaving sensor echoes – patterned after ancient animal migration routes only she remembered.

Relic Note

The blade embedded in her left arm is not technological, nor fully arcane. Accord theorists believe it is a dream-bound fragment of her tribe’s spiritual totem – what she calls “the second fang of the First Wolf.” Its shimmer echoes resonance fields unrecorded in modern GRC databanks.
