Chapter 12: The Unfolding Destiny

Trapped in Another Era822 words~5 min read

The night Adrian left his father's chambers, he wandered into the palace garden, seeking solace under the vast, starlit sky. It was one of the weakest days for the Valemont Kingdom. Unbeknownst to him, the guards had betrayed their own bloodline, shaking hands with the rival kingdom's men. The plan was sinister—kidnap the next heir to the throne.

With Adrian out of the picture, Valemont would fall into chaos, making it easy for their enemies to seize control. King Henry, though unaware of the betrayal, sensed the storm brewing. But pride never let him admit defeat, even when it clawed at his very kingdom.

Right in the middle of his escape, Adrian felt an unfamiliar surge of energy rush through him. A celestial force, unseen yet mighty, descended upon him, causing every attacker—men and horses alike—to collapse in an unconscious heap. This mystical intervention granted him the moment he needed to flee. As he ran through the dense woods, he encountered a wise old monk. The monk, seeing beyond the veil of time, offered him sanctuary, promising protection through the unseen forces of fate.

"Stay close to me, my child," the monk had said, his voice a whisper of ancient wisdom. "Until the right time comes. Until the one destined for you finds you—across time, across lives."

The next morning, a loud commotion echoed through the kingdom. Aria, lost in a dream about Adrian, was startled awake by the hurried footsteps of a palace maid.

"Miss Aria, wake up! The King has called an urgent assembly in the Grand Forum!"

The air was thick with whispers as hundreds gathered in the grand hall, eyes darting at one another, wondering what had prompted such an unexpected summons. It had been only two days since Princess Marina's wedding, yet something far greater loomed over them.

When King Henry finally emerged, draped in royal attire, his presence demanded attention. His face bore the weight of something grave, yet his posture remained unyielding.

Clearing his throat, his voice resonated through the hall. "My people, today I stand before you not as your ruler, but as a man bound by fate. Effective immediately, I shall resign from my throne."

Gasps filled the room. Murmurs erupted like wildfire. "The King is stepping down?" "What does this mean for the kingdom?" "Has he lost his mind?"

"From this moment on, there is no King. The Queen shall oversee all matters until a rightful heir is determined."

That night, gathered in the privacy of their chambers, Aria, Rogers, Kendalina, and Leisha speculated over the King's shocking decision.

"He's either under threat or being manipulated," Rogers deduced, pacing the room.

"Or maybe he feels powerless without his son," Leisha added, her brows knitted in concern.

Aria, however, was lost in thought. Something didn't sit right. "It's not just about Adrian," she whispered. "Someone is using Adrian's disappearance to break the throne."

She knew there was only one person who could confirm her suspicions—the old monk.

At dawn, Leisha led Aria through the forest to meet the wise monk. He stood near a glistening pond, drawing water into a wooden bucket. As they approached, he turned, eyes crinkling with an all-knowing smile.

"Welcome, child. Finally, you have come."

Aria bowed in respect. "I had to. There are too many unanswered questions."

Meanwhile, unseen by them, Adrian watched from a distance, his heart caught between curiosity and an unfamiliar pull towards the girl who had crossed time itself to find him.

The monk gestured for Aria to sit. As she recounted the King's announcement, his expression turned grave.

"The King has been deceived," he confirmed. "Someone is whispering in his ears, using his love for Adrian to manipulate his decisions. If this continues, Valemont will collapse."

Aria's resolve hardened. "Then Adrian must not reveal himself yet. If he does, they will come for him again. I promised Queen Erieana that I'd bring him back safely. I won't break that vow."

The monk regarded her with pride. "You carry the weight of love and duty upon your shoulders, child. But know this—love has the power to rewrite fate."

Hidden behind the trees, Adrian listened intently. For the first time in his life, he saw someone willing to fight for him without expecting anything in return. His heart clenched at the sincerity in Aria's voice.

Then came the words that would change everything.

"Adrian might be a prince to the world, but to me, he is my sole purpose. I have crossed borders—not just lands, but time itself—to save him. Because I know he deserves happiness. Because I love him."

The raw truth in her confession made his breath hitch. He had never known love like this—selfless, unwavering, and fearless.

At that moment, Adrian made a silent vow.

If she would fight for him, then he would fight for her.

Their fates were now intertwined. A new journey of love, sacrifice, and war had begun.
