The first light of dawn had barely reached the palace walls when chaos broke out. The conspirators, armed with trained mercenaries and traitorous nobles, launched a brutal attack on the Valemont Kingdom. The sound of steel clashing and battle cries hung in the air.
Adrian, now standing tall among his men, took charge of the royal guards. His voice, commanding yet resolute, cut through the din. "Defend the palace! Let no enemy step inside these walls!"
While Adrian and Rogers led the battle, Aria remained inside the palace, directing the defences. She was stationed with the women, along with Queen Erieana, to ensure their safety. Kendalina, with fierce determination, vowed to protect the Queen at all costs.
Aria's spine tingled as the sound of approaching footsteps echoed throughout the grand hall. She turned just in time to spot a group of assassins slipping past the palace guards. With a determined breath, she picked up a sword and assumed a defensive stance. Queen Erieana, unfazed, raised her own blade, her eyes blazing with defiance.
The enemy charged. Aria defeated one attacker, but another approached from behind, his dagger aimed straight at her heart. A sharp clang echoed as Adrian appeared out of nowhere and parried the fatal blow. Aria felt a rush of warmth as a result of his protective stance.
"You should be more careful," he muttered, his breath uneven.
"I had it under control," Aria countered, though her racing heart told another story.
In the chaos of battle, Adrian cupped her face, searching her eyes. "I can't lose you." Then, with reckless abandon, he pressed his lips against hers. The world around them faded as the battlefield momentarily became silent. When they pulled apart, determination gleamed in his gaze. "Stay alive. That's an order."
Meanwhile, on the battlefield, Rogers fought with the skill of a seasoned warrior, his blade slicing down enemies with precision. The conspirators were relentless, but Valemont's forces were equally ferocious. Blood stained the ground, and war cries reverberated through the palace walls.
In the midst of the battle, King Henry discovered the shocking truth: the Wikefields Kingdom was behind the conspiracy. The second Queen had joined forces with them in an attempt to overthrow the Valemont line. The Wikefields had a long history of feuding with the Valemonts, and their ultimate goal was to eliminate the royal bloodline and seize control of the kingdom.
As he watched Adrian fight alongside the guards, King Henry had a light bulb moment. His son's skill, courage, and leadership shone in the heat of battle. Flashes of his own past mistakes surfaced, causing him to feel a deep sense of regret.
As the battle raged, an unexpected hero appeared. Leisha, still in her goat form, remained hidden, avoiding the heat of the battle. However, when a short-statured enemy attempted to stab King Henry from behind, she leaped forward, causing the assassin to stumble and die. The King froze, staring down at the creature that had saved his life. He knelt beside her and realised who she truly was.
"Leisha..." he whispered, guilt washing over him.
With one final push, the Valemont forces overpowered the enemy, capturing the remaining conspirators. Victory was theirs.
By evening, the palace was filled with a mixture of relief and celebration. King Henry called for a grand assembly, addressing the kingdom.
"For too long, I have ruled with arrogance," he admitted. "Today, I have seen true strengthânot in conquest, but in loyalty, love, and sacrifice. I have wronged many, but no one more than my own blood and my people."
The monk, appearing at the crucial moment, stepped forward. "Your realisation has broken the curse, King Henry. True power is in redemption, not in ruling with an iron fist."
As he spoke, a golden aura enveloped Leisha. Gasps echoed through the crowd as she transformed back into her human form. Her golden curls cascaded over her shoulders, and her emerald eyes shimmered with newfound freedom.
Rogers, stunned by her beauty, stepped forward. "Leisha..."
She smiled, tears in her eyes. "I am free."
Unable to contain his emotions, Rogers pulled her into a deep kiss, solidifying the beginning of something new between them.
Later that night, in Aria's cottage, she packed her belongings, preparing to move into the palace with Kendalina and Leisha. Adrian stood by the door, watching her.
"You don't have to leave this place just yet," he said softly.
Aria turned to him, a teasing smile on her lips. "Afraid you won't see me as often?"
Adrian stepped closer, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "You're the one thing I can't afford to lose." He held her hands, his thumb tracing gentle circles over her skin. "Stay with me."
"I already have," she whispered.
Their lips met again, but this time, it wasn't in the chaos of battle. It was slow, deep, and filled with promises of forever.
The next morning, King Henry officially acknowledged their relationship in a private breakfast attended by all. Queen Erieana, beaming with pride, took Aria's hand. "You are more than a hero, my dear. You are family now."
The kingdom rejoiced in their victory, celebrating the newfound peace.
That evening, Adrian and Aria stood on the palace balcony, watching the sun dip below the horizon.
"I wish you could see my world," Aria murmured, her voice tinged with melancholy. "My family, my friends. Rogers' sister, Kendall. My life before all of this."
Adrian tightened his hold on her. "You changed history, Aria. You changed my future. And I will do whatever it takes to keep you here with me."
A sudden voice interrupted their moment.
"Tomorrow, the wedding rituals begin!" Kendalina announced, breathless with excitement.
Adrian and Aria exchanged a lookâone filled with love, hope, and the promise of forever.
And as the stars lit up the sky, their love story continued, bound by time, fate, and an unbreakable bond. But there was still something that they forgot.
