Chapter 19: Family Date

The summer air was still, but the heat inside the Bennetts' home was nearly unbearable. Aria sat between her parents, hands on her lap and fingers twisting nervously. Brian and Cassandra Bennett, across from her, exchanged glances, their expressions mixed with concern and curiosity.

"So," Brian began, crossing his arms. "Who is this man we saw you with last night?"

Aria exhaled deeply, bracing herself. "His name is Adrian Burton. He recently moved here from England with his family. And..." she hesitated for a moment, "I love him, Dad."

Cassandra leaned forward. "Why didn't you tell us earlier, Aria? We aren't against you being in a relationship, but catching you hugging someone in the middle of the street—well, that was unexpected."

Aria's smile was small and apologetic. "I wasn't sure how to bring it up. Everything happened so quickly that it felt unreal. "Like something from a dream."

Brian raised his eyebrow. "And how did you meet him?"

She chuckled nervously. "At a café... through a mutual friend. It started off casually, but then... things just fell into place. I can't explain it, but being with him feels like I've known him forever."

Her father sighed, and his expression softened slightly. "We just want to make sure you are happy, Aria. But we'd like to meet with him first before giving him our blessing."

Aria's face lightened up. "YOU WILL! Tonight, actually . His family also wants to meet you."

Meanwhile, at the Burton mansion, Adrian was pacing in the living room, one hand running through his dark hair while the other rested on his hip.

"Adrian, sit down, darling! You're making me dizzy," Eriana Burton, his mother, laughed.

He sighed. "Mother, this isn't funny. Tonight is important. I need to make a good impression."

Liesha, sitting cross-legged on the couch, smirked. "Brother, I've never seen you this nervous. You look like a teenager on his first date."

Eriana grinned. "And who can blame him? Finally, my son, the mysterious loner, has found someone special. It's about time."

Adrian rolled his eyes, but a small smile tugged at his lips. His mother had always been eager for him to find love. "It's not that simple. Her parents need to trust me. I need to show them I can take care of her."

Adrian's father, Alexander Burton, cut through the room with his deep voice. "And so you should." He walked in and adjusted his cufflinks. "I will observe them just as much as they will observe us. Adrian, this is not just about love. It's about taking responsibility. Family legacy is important."

Adrian met his father's eyes and nodded. "I understand."

Eriana clapped her hands. "Alright, enough tension! Let's get ready. We have a dinner to attend."

The evening air was cool as the Burtons arrived at the Bennetts' house. Inside, the air buzzed with polite conversation and underlying tension.

Kendall and Liesha hit it off immediately.

"So, you're Rogers' sister?" Liesha asked, sipping on her drink.

Kendall chuckled. "The one and only. And I must say, you've done a fine job keeping my brother on his toes."

Liesha grinned. "Oh, trust me, I intend to."

Meanwhile, Brian and Alexander sat across from each other, discussing business, both men weighing each other's words carefully.

"So, you run a business in luxury furnishings," Brian mused. "That's quite an empire you've built."

Alexander nodded. "And I hear you've had quite the career in historical research. That must be an enriching field."

Brian nodded, satisfied. "It is. But family is more important than any business."

Alexander raised his glass. "On that, we agree."

As the evening progressed, the tension melted away into laughter, clinking glasses, and warm conversation.

Outside, under the soft glow of the streetlamp, Adrian and Aria stole a quiet moment.

"So, what do you think?" Aria asked, tilting her head up to look at him.

Adrian traced a finger down her cheek. "I think I could spend a thousand lifetimes waiting for this moment again."

She smiled. "It still feels like a dream."

He leaned in, his forehead resting against hers. "Then let's never wake up."

She sighed contentedly. "Do you think we can really make this work? Our families, our different worlds?"

He pulled her closer. "We already have. And I'll keep proving it to you every single day."

Just then, Eriana called out, "Adrian, time to leave!"

Aria reluctantly pulled away, watching him step back.

"Next time, our home," he promised, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead before walking away.

As she watched him leave, she couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the start of something much bigger. Something had yet to unfold.

However, for the time being, she allowed herself to believe in the magic of the moment.

Because, maybe... just maybe... happily ever after did exist.
