Chapter 22 of 22

Epilogue

Trapped in Another Era466 words~3 min read

Things were beautiful, and they could become even more so—but love was never easy. Aria and Adrian came to this realisation while sitting in the Burton mansion, surrounded by their families. The room was filled with warmth and concern, but an unspoken sadness hung in the air.

"You can adopt a child," Adrian's mother, Eriana, said softly, placing a comforting hand on Aria's.

"We have tried, Mum. Nothing is working," Aria said, her voice breaking. "I don't know what's wrong."

Adrian, sitting beside her, wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close. He kissed her forehead softly as she began to cry. His heart ached for her. She had always been strong, always resilient—but this? This was breaking her.

"I want to make an announcement," Adrian said swiftly his voice firm but tender. "I think we should leave for a while. A long-term vacation. We've been trying for three years to conceive. But instead of becoming pregnant, Aria is experiencing a mental breakdown. I will not allow this to continue. I believe a change of environment will benefit both of us."

Silence filled the room. The Burtons and Bennetts exchanged glances, their expressions a combination of concern and understanding.

Aria and Adrian had been married for five years now. Their businesses flourished, their careers soared—but they couldn't have a baby. Every attempt ended in failure. From IVF treatments to adoption, they had tried everything. Yet, every time, something happened that prevented it from working out.

Medically, they were both fit and healthy. There was no logical explanation.

But Adrian knew the truth.

He saw the old monk in town two days ago. The same monk who had previously warned them of their fate. Adrian had tracked him down, desperate for information. And what the monk told him shook him to his core.

"You cannot conceive a child because your firstborn was never meant to die. Someone took its life in the past, and the curse remains unbroken. Until you return to that time and stop the murder, you will never be able to bear a child in this life. But that is not the only danger. Your unborn child will be hunted again—this time, in the 22nd century. Only by traveling to both the past and the future can you break this cycle."

Adrian hadn't told Aria everything. Not yet. He had merely suggested the idea of a vacation, a change of pace. But he knew this wasn't just a trip. It was a mission. A battle against time itself.

Only one other person knew the truth—Rogers.

And soon, Aria would, too.

What a life they had lived. What a fate they had yet to uncover. More secrets, more dangers, more untold stories waiting to be revealed.

This wasn't the end.

It was just the beginning.
